If purchased DLC is missing, first confirm the purchase belongs to the account you are checking. Then check whether the store recognizes ownership, whether the add-on is installed, whether its license needs refreshing, whether it matches your game’s region, and whether the game has unlocked access to it. These are separate problems, so work through them in order before buying the content again.
Why purchased DLC can appear to be missing
“Missing DLC” can describe four different failures: the purchase is on another account; the correct account owns the content but the platform has not recognized or installed it; the base game and add-on are region-incompatible; or the game has the content but has not made it available yet. A store receipt alone does not establish that the add-on is installed or accessible in the game.
Start with the account and transaction, then check store ownership and installation. After that, refresh the license if your platform supports it, investigate region compatibility, and check the game’s own access requirements. This sequence helps distinguish a billing or account issue from a download, license, or gameplay issue.

Keep these checks separate as you troubleshoot. A completed transaction means the store recorded a purchase, but you still need to establish which account owns it. An ownership indicator means the account has an entitlement, but it does not prove that files are installed. And even installed, correctly licensed content may only become usable after a game-specific milestone. Identifying the stage where the problem occurs makes it easier to choose the right next step.

1. Confirm the account and purchase
Sign in to the account that actually bought the DLC. If you use more than one console profile, Nintendo Account, PlayStation Network account, Xbox profile, Steam account, or Epic Games account, do not assume the content belongs to the one currently open.
- Open the platform’s purchase, transaction, or account history while signed in to the buying account.
- Find the DLC transaction and check that it completed rather than remaining pending, failing, or being associated with a different account.
- On Nintendo, remember that a Nintendo Account’s purchase history shows purchases made by that selected account; a parent account will not show purchases made through a child account. Nintendo explains account and download-code issues in its download-code support guide.
- For Epic Games Store, SEGA’s troubleshooting instructions point users to account transaction history and code-redemption records. On Steam, check the account’s licenses or purchase records.
If there is no completed purchase on the account you are checking, the platform cannot restore that account’s entitlement. Switch to the account used at checkout, or contact the store if the transaction appears missing or incorrect. Do not purchase the add-on again until you have established which account owns it.
For a code-based purchase, check that the code was redeemed on the account you are using and that the redemption appears in that account’s records. A code or receipt by itself does not show that it was redeemed on the intended profile. If the transaction is recorded on a different account, use that account to check ownership and access; purchases generally remain associated with the account that made or redeemed them.

Open the DLC’s store listing or the game’s add-on page while signed into the buying account. The wording varies by platform, but look for a download, redownload, manage, or owned indicator rather than a price or purchase button.
Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch
Nintendo says owned DLC may show a redownload or Virtual Game Cards option. If the listing instead shows “Add to Purchase” or a price, the Nintendo Account currently selected has not purchased that item. Also check whether the game is in Hidden Software; hidden software must be re-enabled before it can be redownloaded. Follow Nintendo’s Digital Content is Missing support steps for the console.
Other storefronts
On other platforms, inspect the game’s add-on management page or store listing. A visible owned status is useful evidence that the account has the entitlement, but it does not prove the add-on has been downloaded or that the game has unlocked it. Continue to the installation check.
If the page still offers a price, first make sure you are signed in to the account shown on the transaction record and that you are viewing the exact DLC item or edition purchased. If those match and the store still does not recognize ownership, record what the transaction history and listing show. That distinction is useful when contacting support: the question is whether the store has attached the entitlement to the account, not just whether you remember completing a purchase.

3. Download or install the add-on
Ownership and installation are different. If the store recognizes the purchase but the content is absent in-game, check the platform’s installed add-ons and download state.

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
Open the game’s add-on or manage-content screen and check whether the DLC is installed. On PS5, also check the console’s installation status and available storage. PlayStation’s add-on troubleshooting guide includes further checks and advises deleting and reinstalling the game and add-on if the earlier steps do not resolve the problem. Reinstallation is a later troubleshooting step, not the first thing to try.
Before reinstalling, confirm the add-on is associated with the correct game and account and that the console has completed any download or installation in progress. Deleting and reinstalling is more disruptive than checking status, so reserve it for when the basic account, ownership, and install checks have not helped. Follow PlayStation’s current support directions for the specific add-on and console.
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
Use the profile that purchased the DLC. Open My games & apps, select the game, then open Manage game and add-ons to check available add-ons and installation. These menu directions are from publisher support guidance; labels can change, so follow the current wording on your console.

In your Library, open the game’s Properties and select DLC. Check that the relevant add-on is selected. If it already appears selected but is not available, unchecking and rechecking it can prompt Steam to reinstall the DLC. Allow the download or update to finish before testing the game again.
Epic Games Store
Open the game’s Manage Add-Ons controls and check whether the DLC is enabled or installed. If a code was used, also confirm it appears in the Epic account’s code-redemption or transaction records.
The labels differ between platforms, but the useful question is the same: does the platform list this specific add-on as available, and is it installed or enabled? If ownership is present but installation is not, use the platform’s download or management controls. If the add-on is listed as installed, move on rather than repeating the download steps; the remaining issue may be license recognition, region, or an in-game access condition.
4. Refresh PlayStation licenses
If a PlayStation purchase is recorded and the add-on is installed—or should be available—but the console does not recognize it, restore licenses. PlayStation says restoring licenses can help when you cannot locate a game or add-on. Use the path for your console:
- PS5: Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
- PS4: Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses.
When the process completes, check the game and add-on again. PlayStation’s license restoration guide provides the official steps. Restoring licenses does not resolve an account mismatch or make region-incompatible content work with a game.

This step is specific to PlayStation’s license restoration process; it is not a general fix for every store. If the transaction belongs to another account, the add-on is not installed, or the disc and DLC regions do not match, restoring a license will not address that cause. Check those conditions rather than repeatedly restoring licenses.
5. Check region compatibility, especially for disc games
A genuine DLC purchase may still fail to work with a base game from a different region. This is particularly important when the base game is a physical disc and the add-on was bought from a store tied to a different country or region. Compare the game’s region with the account and storefront region used to obtain the DLC; do not assume that different regional editions are interchangeable.
Nintendo states that when the game and DLC regions do not match, the DLC will not appear in that version of the game. PlayStation likewise says a game disc must be licensed for the same country or region as the account to use PlayStation Store add-ons. See the relevant Nintendo guidance or PlayStation add-on guidance for the platform-specific details.
Think of this as a compatibility check, not a question of whether the purchase was genuine. A valid DLC entitlement can still be unusable with a different regional release of the base game. If you have a disc, establish which region or country release it is before assuming that reinstalling the add-on will solve the issue. Use the platform’s regional guidance when you are unsure whether the specific game edition and add-on match.
6. Check whether the game has unlocked the content
Some DLC does not appear at the start of a game, even when the purchase, license, and installation are all correct. SEGA Support’s DLC Access Troubleshooting, updated February 17, 2026, says: “Sometimes the DLC content will not be accessible from the beginning.” Its examples include completing a tutorial, reaching a particular point, or being in a specific part of the game.
Check the game’s own instructions for how and when the add-on becomes usable. If you use mods or custom files on PC, test without them: SEGA notes that they can interfere with DLC access. For console-specific access steps, see SEGA’s console DLC guidance. These are possible game-side causes, not universal requirements for every add-on.
For example, an add-on might depend on finishing a tutorial before it appears, or might only be usable in a particular location or section. If the game has a stated requirement, meet it and then check the relevant in-game menu or area again. Do not treat the absence of an item at the opening screen as proof that a purchase failed; first verify whether the game has a progression or location condition. Conversely, if you have met the stated condition and it remains unavailable, return to the account, installation, and region checks or ask the publisher to confirm the game-side entitlement.
7. Contact support with the transaction details
If the correct account shows a completed purchase, the store recognizes ownership, and the platform checks have not restored access, contact the storefront or platform support for an entitlement or license problem. If the platform confirms the entitlement is valid but the content still does not appear under the game’s rules, contact the game publisher. PlayStation directs users to support when add-on troubleshooting fails; Bungie similarly directs players with continuing license problems to the relevant platform support in its Destiny content license guide.

Have the transaction date, receipt or order number, account used to buy the content, game title and edition, platform, and add-on name ready. These details help support determine whether the issue is a missing transaction, an account entitlement, a platform license, or game-specific access.
When you contact support, describe which checks you have completed and what each one showed—for example, whether the purchase appears in history, whether the store lists the DLC as owned, and whether the console or launcher lists it as installed.
