If you cannot find Meta AI supervision, check both supported setup locations: the Meta AI app and Meta’s Family Center. Meta says parental supervision for Meta AI is globally available as of its October 5, 2026 update, but the controls you see depend on whether you are looking for topic insights, a content restriction, or supervision for another Meta service.
The most important limitation is that supervision does not show a teen’s conversations. It shows topic categories from the previous seven days. If the setting is absent or an account-specific error persists in both official locations, Meta’s published guidance does not identify a device-specific fix; use Meta’s account-support and parent-safety resources rather than assuming that reinstalling or clearing a cache will restore it.
What Meta AI supervision includes
Meta’s April 23, 2026 announcement, updated October 5, 2026, says parental supervision is available globally in the Meta AI app. A parent or guardian can configure it in the app or through Family Center. The announcement describes two relevant controls:
- Supervision insights: parents can see categories of topics a teen asked Meta AI about during the previous seven days.
- Limited Content: parents can replace the default 13+ experience with a more restrictive experience that limits the kinds of conversations available in the Meta AI app.
These are different from a conversation viewer. Meta explicitly says parents do not see the teen’s actual conversations. The seven-day topic view is an activity summary, not a transcript, message history or live monitoring feed. See Meta’s announcement on AI supervision for the stated scope.

First, identify which setting you are trying to find
Many “missing setting” reports come from looking for one control while expecting another. Use this distinction before troubleshooting.

Family Center is the management hub for several Meta services, but that does not mean every product exposes identical switches. A control documented for the Meta AI app may not appear in Instagram, Messenger, Facebook or Meta Horizon under the same name.
Set up or check supervision in the Meta AI app
Meta identifies the Meta AI app as one official setup surface. The company’s announcement does not publish a universal device-by-device menu path, so labels and placement may differ by account or release. Use the following process without assuming that a missing option proves supervision is unavailable:
- Open the official Meta AI app and sign in with the parent or guardian account used for supervision.
- Look for the parental-supervision area in the app’s account or safety settings. Confirm whether the page offers topic insights, the Limited Content choice, or both.
- If the parental-supervision option is not visible, do not substitute a general privacy or notification setting. Move to Family Center, the second setup route Meta documents.
- If you can open supervision but cannot see conversations, that is expected behavior: Meta provides topic categories for the prior seven days, not the underlying chat text.
Meta’s wording is that supervision is available “in the Meta AI app globally.” That describes the announced availability, not a guarantee that every account will display the same interface at the same time. An account-specific error still needs to be handled through Meta’s support channels.

Use Family Center when the app option is missing
Meta’s May 12, 2026 announcement describes Family Center as a central hub for supervised accounts and gives a dedicated setup address: familycenter.meta.com/supervision. This is an official alternate place to check when the Meta AI app does not expose the setting.
- Open Family Center supervision and sign in with the supervising parent or guardian account.
- Review the supervised accounts shown in the hub and select the teen account whose Meta AI supervision you want to manage.
- Look for the Meta AI supervision entry and the controls described by Meta: topic insights and, where offered, Limited Content.
- Do not assume that a Family Center control for Instagram, Meta Horizon, Facebook or Messenger also changes the Meta AI experience. Product-specific controls can differ.
Family Center is a documented alternative location, not a guaranteed cure for every missing-setting error. If the teen account or Meta AI control is not listed there, record what appears on screen and continue to account support rather than treating an unrelated product switch as an equivalent.
What to check when supervision is missing
Confirm that you are in the right product
Meta now has supervision surfaces in several products. The Meta AI app’s controls concern the AI experience and its topic insights. Family Center also manages supervised experiences for Instagram, Meta Horizon, Facebook and Messenger. If you are inside one of those apps, you may be viewing that product’s controls instead of Meta AI’s.

Topic insights and Limited Content are separate concepts. Seeing one does not imply that the other is available on the same screen. The default 13+ experience and Limited Content describe how restrictive the AI experience is; the seven-day topic summary describes what parents can see about activity.

Use the second official setup route
If the Meta AI app does not show parental supervision, check Family Center. Conversely, if Family Center does not show the expected AI control, check the Meta AI app. Meta names both locations, so checking only one leaves out an official route.
Allow for different product controls
Family Center’s role is broader than Meta AI. Meta says the hub covers supervised accounts across Instagram, Meta Horizon, Facebook and Messenger, while the precise controls differ by product. A missing switch in one service is not evidence that every supervision feature is missing from the account.
What to do if the setting opens but does not work
Published Meta material explains what supervision does but does not provide a verified app-version requirement, a list of eligible account exceptions, a known outage, or device-specific recovery steps. It also does not identify clearing an app cache, reinstalling, or changing a phone setting as the recommended fix for an absent or unresponsive control.

Use a support-first approach:
- Write down the account type (parent or guardian, teen, or another role), the product where the problem occurs, and whether you checked both the Meta AI app and Family Center.
- Capture the exact error text or the screen where the control is absent, without sharing private conversation content.
- Note the date and time, since the published availability statement does not promise identical rollout behavior for every account interface.
- Contact Meta through the account’s official help or support route and describe the missing control precisely: for example, “Meta AI supervision is absent in the app and at Family Center supervision,” or “the supervision page opens but does not save the selected option.”
This wording helps support distinguish a discovery problem from a control that fails after selection. It also avoids claiming that a generic maintenance step is an official remedy when Meta has not documented one for this issue.

Understand what parents can and cannot see
Topic categories, not transcripts
Supervision insights summarize categories of topics a teen asked Meta AI about over the previous seven days. They do not reveal the questions, answers, attachments or full conversation thread. If your goal is to read every exchange, Meta’s described supervision feature does not provide that capability.
A rolling seven-day window
The stated window is the previous seven days. It is not an unlimited historical archive. A topic that falls outside that period is not covered by the insight described in Meta’s announcement.
Restriction versus visibility
Limited Content changes the kinds of conversations the teen can have in the Meta AI app. It is not an expanded reporting mode, and enabling it does not turn topic insights into full transcripts. Treat “how restrictive the AI is” and “what activity a parent can see” as separate decisions.

Choosing Family Center does not automatically select Limited Content, and selecting Limited Content does not grant transcript access. Check each decision separately.
Use official parent-safety resources for escalation
Meta’s Safety Center parents page links to parent resources for Instagram supervision and Meta Horizon/Quest Family Center, along with broader family-safety information. Use it to find the current official support paths when the in-app or Family Center control is unavailable.
When contacting support, avoid sending a teen’s private AI conversations as proof. A description of the missing menu, an error message and the products you checked should be enough to identify the technical problem while preserving the teen’s privacy.
Limits of the currently published troubleshooting guidance
Meta’s announcements establish global availability and the two setup surfaces, but they do not establish a universal app version, a particular phone model requirement, a guaranteed eligibility rule, or a confirmed outage for missing supervision settings. They also do not promise that reinstalling the app, clearing storage, or changing operating-system permissions will restore the control.
That means a persistent account-specific failure should be treated as unresolved until Meta’s support team examines it. You can still check both official locations and verify that you are looking for the correct control, but avoid presenting an unverified generic fix as certain.
