Short answer: A disconnect can be recorded as a loss in Champions even when you saw your win complete. EA Community Manager EA_Aljo says, “when you disconnect from a match, a loss is automatically given.” You cannot assume an already-recorded loss will be restored. Check EA service status first, inspect your Connection Quality Report, then work through the connection fixes below. If the problem continues or the result looks incorrect, contact EA Support with details from the affected match.
Why a Champions win can appear as a loss
Champions matches depend on a continuous connection between your console or PC, your home network and EA game data centers. A break in that connection can produce lag, visual stuttering or a full disconnect. In an EA Forums reply about Ultimate Champions, EA Community Manager EA_Aljo stated that “when you disconnect from a match, a loss is automatically given.” That rule explains why a player can report seeing a win and then receive a disconnect message followed by a loss.
The statement is a description of how EA records a disconnect, not a promise that every incident has the same cause. The available EA guidance also does not promise that support can reverse a result already stored as a loss. Treat the troubleshooting process as a way to prevent another disconnect and to gather evidence for support, not as a guaranteed method of recovering the completed match.

There is no published statistic in the available material showing how often Champions disconnects occur or how often EA restores results. A single forum report therefore should not be treated as proof that every failed-to-count match is a server fault, a home-network fault or a security restriction.

Check whether EA or your connection is responsible
Look for an EA service incident first
Before changing router settings, check EA’s FC server-status resource and its official outage channels. EA Help says the “Connecting to Ultimate Team is not possible at the moment” message can be caused by a server issue and directs players to those status resources. If EA reports an outage or maintenance, repeated router changes will not repair the service. Wait for the incident to clear, then test again.
Use the Connection Quality Report
EA’s FC support tools include a Connection Quality Report. It can show connection-quality history and help you describe a problem to support. During a later applicable match, enable Connection Monitoring so the game can display warning indicators when quality deteriorates. Record what you see rather than assuming the indicator identifies the culprit.

- Cat 8 Speed, Cat 5/5e Value Enjoy Cat 8 Ethernet cable performance at a Cat 5/5e-level value. With up to 40Gbps speed and 2000MHz bandwidth, this high speed internet cable delivers more bandwidth than standard Cat 5 and Cat 5e cables, helping support smooth gaming, streaming, video calls, large file transfers and everyday wired network use.
- 40Gbps Speed, Wide Compatibility This Cat 8 Ethernet cable supports up to 40Gbps data transfer and 2000MHz bandwidth for fast, reliable internet performance. Standard RJ45 connectors are backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6, Cat6a and Cat5e devices, including routers, modems, switches, gaming PCs, PS5, PS4, Xbox, smart TVs, laptops and printers.
- Stable U/FTP Shielding Each of the 4 twisted pairs is individually wrapped with aluminum foil to help reduce crosstalk, noise, and signal interference. Combined with RJ45 connectors on both ends, the U/FTP design helps maintain cleaner signal transmission for a stable and reliable wired network connection.
- Nylon Braided Durability The nylon braided jacket adds everyday durability while keeping the cable flexible and easy to route. Reinforced construction helps the cord handle bending, pulling and frequent plugging, making it a reliable choice for desks, gaming rooms, home offices and long-term network setups.
- 50ft Reach for More Setups The 50 ft length makes it easier to connect devices across rooms, along walls, under desks or around corners. Great for router-to-PC connections, modem-to-TV setups, gaming consoles, workstations, printers and other home network equipment that needs a longer Ethernet cable.
| Indicator | What EA says it measures | What it can and cannot tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Ping | The round-trip time for data to travel between you and the game service and back. | High ping indicates delay. It does not, by itself, prove whether your home network, an ISP route or EA is responsible. |
| Packet loss | Packets that fail to complete the round trip. | Loss can cause missing updates, stuttering or a disconnect, but the indicator alone does not identify where packets disappeared. |
| Jitter | Changes in ping over time. | Inconsistent delay can make play unstable. A reading is evidence of connection behavior, not a diagnosis of one specific match. |
EA describes these three measures as complementary: ping reflects speed, packet loss reflects reliability and jitter reflects consistency. Save a screenshot or note the time and readings when possible. A clean reading after the fact does not disprove a brief interruption during the match.
Follow this troubleshooting order
- Check EA status and official channels. If there is a reported FC service incident, wait for recovery before changing local settings. If no incident is listed, continue with the local checks.
- Close and restart the game. Fully exit FC rather than leaving it suspended or running in the background, then launch it again. A restart clears the current game session but does not change a result already recorded by EA.
- Restart your networking equipment. Turn off the router. If your modem and router are separate, restart both. EA’s troubleshooting guidance says to wait at least 30 seconds before powering the equipment back on. Allow the connection to return fully, then test a single match before changing more settings.
- Stop competing network activity. Pause large downloads, cloud synchronization and HD or 4K streaming on the home connection while you play. Ask other users to avoid heavy uploads or downloads during Champions matches. This step removes a common source of congestion without changing router configuration.
- Prefer Ethernet when Wi-Fi is inconsistent. Connect the console or PC directly to the router with an Ethernet cable for gaming. EA says a wired connection usually provides more stability because it avoids wireless interference. It is an aid, not a guarantee: a cable cannot correct an EA outage, an ISP fault, a security restriction or a loss that has already been recorded.
- If Ethernet is impractical, test Wi-Fi deliberately. Compare the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands from the location where you play. The best choice depends on range and interference: 5 GHz can be faster at short range, while 2.4 GHz generally travels farther but may be more crowded. If your router allows it, try a less congested wireless channel. Change one item at a time so you can tell which change mattered.
- Check router firmware instructions. Use the router manufacturer’s documented update process and confirm that the model and hardware revision match the instructions. Do not install an unrelated firmware file or interrupt power during an update.
- Test with a VPN disconnected. EA recommends temporarily disconnecting a VPN to determine whether it is contributing to the problem. Do not add a VPN as a supposed fix; the diagnostic step is to remove that extra routing layer and compare the result.
- Configure QoS only if your router supports it. Quality-of-Service controls can prioritize EA SPORTS FC traffic, but labels and options vary by router. Follow the router’s own documentation, and avoid aggressive settings that starve other household devices or require unsupported port rules.
- Retest and document the outcome. Play only after the connection has stabilized. Note whether the same symptom returns, which device was wired or wireless, and whether ping, packet loss or jitter warnings appeared.
Choosing between wired and wireless troubleshooting
| Situation | Most useful next test | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| EA status page reports an incident | Wait and monitor official updates | A local change cannot repair an EA-side outage. |
| No outage, but high ping or packet-loss warnings appear | Restart equipment, stop competing traffic and test Ethernet | These steps reduce local congestion and wireless variability. |
| Ethernet is stable but Wi-Fi is not | Compare bands, move closer to the router or test a less crowded channel | The difference points toward wireless range or interference, although it is not a definitive diagnosis. |
| Both wired and wireless sessions disconnect | Check ISP stability, router firmware and EA status; then contact support | The issue may be outside Wi-Fi coverage and needs broader evidence. |
| The match is already listed as a loss | Collect match and connection details and contact EA | Changing cables or settings cannot guarantee restoration of an existing result. |
A possible Champions security limit
One FC 26 Champions forum discussion includes a conditional explanation from EA_Aljo: “Since it’s happening in Champions games, it’s possible you hit the security limits.” The reply tied that possibility to a player who may have played many games in a short period and said the limit might expire after about 24 hours. This was guidance for that reported case, not a published universal rule, documented threshold or guarantee that every Champions disconnect is a security limit.

If you have played many matches in a short period, waiting approximately 24 hours is a reasonable precaution before repeatedly attempting more games. The same forum reply suggested power-cycling the modem and router and hard-restarting the console if the player had not been playing many matches. The player later reported that play worked again but that the affected results remained losses. That follow-up does not establish that the security-limit theory was proven or that waiting will restore a result.

Keep screenshots or recordings if they are available, but do not include passwords, payment information or unrelated personal data. Support can investigate the account and service records; the troubleshooting evidence helps distinguish a reproducible connection problem from a one-time interruption.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not assume a post-match disconnect is harmless. EA’s stated rule applies when a player disconnects from a match, and a reported loss can remain on the record even when the player believed they had won.
- Do not repeatedly queue during an outage. Confirm service status first and wait for recovery.
- Do not treat one metric as a verdict. Ping, packet loss and jitter describe quality; none alone proves the cause of a particular disconnect.
- Do not buy a cable expecting a guaranteed repair. Ethernet is usually more stable than Wi-Fi, but it cannot fix server-side problems or reverse an existing result.
- Do not use a VPN as a cure. EA’s suggested test is to disconnect a VPN and compare performance.
- Do not present the security-limit possibility as confirmed. The approximately 24-hour suggestion came from one forum case and has no stated universal threshold.
When to stop troubleshooting locally
Stop changing home-network settings when EA reports an outage, when both wired and wireless tests fail in the same way, or when the game continues recording losses after you have collected clear connection and timing evidence. At that point, further random changes can make the situation harder to reproduce. Preserve the details, wait through any reported service incident or possible short-term limit, and send the complete account to EA Support.
