If ARC Raiders shows no Outpost progress, first identify which system is stalled: the Sheltered Retreat project that unlocks the Outpost, or a Research Station level inside an already unlocked Outpost. Open the relevant project or station and read its active objective and requirements; do not rely on the orange notification dot. Embark has documented that the Outpost tab can lack that dot after first-stage objectives, and that the Camera can fail to register when furniture or your character blocks the view. If every displayed requirement is satisfied and the state still does not change, document the screen and contact Embark support rather than deleting data, resetting your character, or assuming another raid will fix it.
First, determine what “research” means in your case
Players commonly use “Outpost research” to describe two separate progression tracks. They have different prerequisites and different failure symptoms.

Check the exact objective text before changing maps or farming items. The objective itself is the authoritative state shown to your character; the notification indicator is only a convenience signal and is currently unreliable in one documented case.

How the Outpost unlock project is supposed to work
The Outpost is unlocked through the Sheltered Retreat project, not by upgrading the ordinary Workshop alone. The current project reference lists three stages:

- Gather Building Materials — collect the listed construction materials.
- Safe Guard the Building Site — distract and destroy ARC machines so construction can proceed.
If your project screen shows one of these stages, troubleshoot that stage directly. A missing orange dot does not prove that the project failed to record completion.
Stage 1: photograph the farmland house
The first objective concerns a farmland house near Ruined Homestead on the Blue Gate map. You need the in-game Camera, which can be purchased from Shani, crafted at the Workbench, or found Topside. The Camera is an item used by the game objective; buying a real camera or another physical accessory cannot help.
Embark’s Frozen Trail 2.0 known-issues entry says the Camera can be blocked by furniture or by the player character at certain angles. If the picture does not register:

- Move to a position with an unobstructed view of the house.
- Turn or reposition the character so the character model and nearby furniture are not covering the scene.
- Take the photo again and immediately reread the Sheltered Retreat objective to see whether its text or completion state changed.
The official note does not establish a required distance, a specific on-screen prompt, or an exact framing rule. Treat those details as unconfirmed rather than inventing a precise camera setup. If a clear view still produces no progress, capture the objective screen and move to support escalation.
Stage 2: collect the construction materials
The current station reference lists these quantities for the building-material step:

Compare your inventory with the objective’s own requirement list, then return to the project screen. Do not assume that possessing an item somewhere else, having deposited it in another storage location, or seeing a pickup notification means the project has accepted it; the project panel is where you verify the recorded state.

Stage 3: secure the building site
The final stage is described as distracting and destroying ARC machines so construction can continue. The available reference does not specify the ARC types, an exact count, or whether all actions must occur in a single raid. Do not turn an unspecified detail into a guaranteed checklist. Instead, read the wording currently displayed in your project, perform the described action, and check the project state afterward.

Embark’s Frozen Trail 2.0 known-issues page states: “The Outpost tab lacks the orange dot indicator after completing first stage objectives to unlock it.” The note groups most Outpost fixes as being in progress for an upcoming Live Update; it does not establish that the fix has shipped.
This creates an important distinction:
- Indicator missing, objective complete: likely the documented notification issue. Open the Outpost tab and project screen directly; the missing dot alone is not proof of lost progress.
- Indicator present, objective unchanged: follow the requirement shown in the project. A dot is not a substitute for the objective state.
- Objective and requirements unchanged after a valid attempt: record the exact stage, map, items, and screen state, then contact support.
Check current release notes for the status of the known issue because the cited page does not confirm a later deployment.

Troubleshoot a Research Station upgrade
The Research Station is a separate Outpost facility with four levels in the current reference. Every station level requires the corresponding Outpost level, in addition to the listed components. An upgrade can therefore be unavailable even when you own all the items if your Outpost itself is under-leveled.

These values come from a current third-party station reference and can change with game balancing. Before farming a particular item, open the Research Station in your own build and confirm the live requirement list. The practical check is a three-way comparison:
- Read the station level you are trying to build.
- Verify that the Outpost level meets that station level’s dependency.
- Compare every named item and quantity against your current inventory and the station panel’s accepted count.
If one of those checks fails, the station is locked by a requirement rather than necessarily bugged. If all three pass but the upgrade control remains unavailable or completion does not register, save a screenshot of the station panel and contact support.

What Research Station level 4 unlocks
The station reference says the research bench unlocks weapon amplification modules. Amplification requires both Gunsmith level 4 and Research Station level 4. This is separate from the Sheltered Retreat objectives: completing the Outpost unlock project does not, by itself, satisfy the weapon-amplification prerequisites.

Use this order so you do not confuse a user-interface signal with a missing requirement:
- Open the project or station itself. Read the active objective, not just a notification.
- Identify the system. Is it Sheltered Retreat, or a Research Station upgrade?
- For Sheltered Retreat, identify the stage. Photo, materials, or building-site safety.
- For a photo, clear the view. Furniture and the character model can block the Camera at some angles.
- For materials, compare exact quantities. Use the project’s displayed list; the construction reference lists 3 Planks, 5 Sheet Metal, 10 ARC Alloy, and 3 Advanced Electrical Components.
- For the site-safety stage, follow only the wording shown. The public reference does not establish exact ARC types or counts.
- For Research Station upgrades, verify Outpost level first. Then check each component and quantity in the live station panel.
- Reopen the relevant screen and record the result. Note whether the objective text changed, even if the orange dot did not appear.
- Escalate when all visible requirements are met. Include your platform, exact objective or station level, actions completed, inventory evidence, and a screenshot.
When to contact Embark support
Embark’s Help Center provides routes for release notes, game progression, and technical troubleshooting. The reviewed public material does not provide a guaranteed Outpost-specific recovery sequence for a project that remains blocked after every visible requirement is met.

- The exact project name and active stage, or the Research Station level you are attempting.
- The map and location used for the photo objective, if applicable.
- The items and quantities the screen shows, plus what your inventory displays.
- Whether the objective text changed, whether the Outpost tab displayed an orange dot, and whether the station upgrade control was enabled.
- A screenshot or short video showing the unchanged state.
Do not present an Expedition reset as a fix for this problem. Embark’s Expedition background explains a different progression system in which a voluntary reset can remove character progression, inventory, workshop, and crafting capabilities; it does not establish that Expedition behavior causes an Outpost or Research Station stall.
What not to assume
- Do not assume the orange dot is proof of completion. Its absence is a documented Outpost UI issue after first-stage objectives.
- Do not assume every failed photo is caused by obstruction. Embark documents obstruction at certain angles, not every possible registration failure.
- Do not assume a particular ARC type or count for the final Sheltered Retreat stage. Those details are not specified in the available reference.
- Do not assume station costs are permanent. Verify the live in-game list because balance changes can alter requirements.
- Do not delete data, reset your character, or repeat raids as a guaranteed remedy. No reviewed official source promises those actions will repair Outpost progression.
Bottom line for a non-progressing Outpost
Read the active objective first, separate Sheltered Retreat from Research Station upgrades, and verify requirements in the relevant screen. For the unlock photo, use a clear angle around Ruined Homestead on Blue Gate and remember that the Camera can be obtained from Shani, the Workbench, or Topside. For station upgrades, match the required Outpost level and every listed component. Treat a missing orange dot as a known indicator problem rather than definitive evidence of lost progress. When the displayed requirements are satisfied but the state still will not advance, send Embark support the exact stage, platform, evidence, and screen state; there is no documented universal Outpost reset that should be promised.
