If your OPPO phone became slow or apps started crashing after an Android update, begin with reversible checks: restart the phone, install pending app and system updates, verify the internet connection when downloads fail, and check free internal storage. Then branch your troubleshooting. A single crashing app usually needs force-stopping, cache clearing, updating, or reinstalling. Slowness or failures across several apps require storage, update, and compatibility checks. Do not assume the Android update itself is a confirmed bug without a model-specific OPPO notice.
First identify what is affected
The correct fix depends on whether one app is failing or the phone is unstable more broadly. Before following a version-specific menu path, open Settings > About Phone or Settings > About device and note the Android and ColorOS versions. OPPO labels and menu locations differ by model, region, and ColorOS generation, so use the closest wording shown on your phone.

Run the reversible checks first
1. Restart the phone
Press and hold the power button, choose Restart, and wait until the home screen is fully loaded. A restart closes stuck processes and reloads system services without deleting your files or app data. Test the problem app before changing anything more destructive.
2. Check the connection when downloads fail
If the symptom is that an app cannot install or update, check Wi-Fi or mobile data first. Open a web page, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data if available, and retry the download. OPPO’s Play Store troubleshooting guidance treats connectivity as a first check for installation and update failures; it is not necessary to reset the phone merely because one download stalled.

3. Update the affected apps
Open the applicable app store, usually the Google Play Store, tap your account avatar, choose Manage apps & device, and install available updates. If only one app crashes, update that app first. If many apps are affected, install all appropriate updates while the phone is connected to a reliable network.
When the Play Store itself is stuck, use the app-management screen on your ColorOS version—for example, Settings > Apps or Settings > App management—select Google Play Store, open Storage usage, and clear its cache. The exact labels can differ. Clearing the Play Store cache is different from clearing the data of the app that contains your personal information.
4. Check for a system update
Open Settings and search for System update, or look under About Phone/About device for the software-update option. Install an update only after the phone has sufficient battery and a stable connection, and follow the on-screen instructions. If no update is offered, that does not prove the phone is defective: update eligibility depends on the model, region, Android version, and OPPO’s support schedule.

Open Settings > Storage (sometimes About Phone > Storage) and inspect the available space. Very little free space can interfere with app updates and make normal phone operations feel slow. Remove downloads, videos, duplicate files, or apps that you recognize and no longer need. Review each item before deleting it, and empty the relevant recycle-bin or recently-deleted area if your file manager uses one.

OPPO’s troubleshooting guidance recommends freeing space, clearing caches, and removing unused apps. You do not need a generic cleaner app to perform these checks; the built-in storage and app-management screens are sufficient.
When one app keeps crashing
Force-stop the app
Open Settings > Apps, App management, or the equivalent list, select the crashing app, and tap Force stop or Force close. Confirm, return to the home screen, and open the app again. On some models you can reach the same screen by pressing and holding the app icon and choosing App info.
Force-stopping does not uninstall the app. It simply ends its current process, making it a safe first response to a freeze or crash loop.
Clear only the app cache
From the same app-information screen, choose Storage usage or Storage, then tap Clear cache. Reopen the app and test the action that previously failed. A cache contains temporary files; removing it normally leaves accounts, documents, and settings intact, although the app may take a little longer to load while it recreates temporary files.

Update or reinstall the app
Install any update offered by the app store. If the app is current but its installation may be damaged, uninstall it and install it again from the official store. Reinstalling can remove locally stored content, offline downloads, or a session that was not synchronized, so check the app’s own backup or sync status first. You may also need to sign in again.
Use Clear data only when you accept the consequences
Clear data (also called Clear storage) is more disruptive than clearing a cache. It can remove information stored locally by the app and return it to its initial setup state. Unsynchronized drafts, downloaded files, saved game progress, or device-only records may be lost, and the app may request your login and permissions again. Try force-stop, cache clearing, updating, and—after checking backups—reinstalling before using this option.
When several apps crash or the whole phone is slow
Recheck storage and updates
Repeat the storage check after deleting unnecessary files, then restart the phone. Confirm that the major apps are current and that the system-update screen has been checked. A phone that is nearly full can remain sluggish even after one large file is removed, so look for other large categories such as videos, downloads, or unused applications.

If the instability began after installing a particular third-party app, uninstall that app and test the phone. Do not remove applications at random; the goal is to test a plausible change while preserving the rest of your setup. If no recent installation is associated with the symptoms, focus on storage, updates, and support rather than assuming an unrelated app is responsible.

Clear caches selectively
For a few known problem apps, clear their caches individually through Settings > Apps/App management > [app] > Storage usage. Avoid treating repeated cache clearing as a substitute for identifying the failing app or freeing storage. Do not use a third-party “cleaner” as a required step, and do not clear data for multiple apps without confirming what each one stores locally.
Do not assume the update caused a confirmed bug
The timing can be significant, but the cited OPPO guidance lists software, hardware, and app-compatibility possibilities for stability problems rather than proving that every post-update slowdown is an update defect. Record the phone model, ColorOS version, Android version, affected apps, available storage, and the exact error or crash behavior. This information helps support distinguish a device-wide fault from an individual app problem.

An app can depend on the Android version, the phone’s hardware capabilities, or services that the developer no longer supports on older devices. OPPO notes that some apps may stop working on older OPPO devices and that software-update availability is model- and region-dependent. Therefore, an update can expose an existing compatibility limit without there being a universal fix for every OPPO phone.

Check the app’s store listing for its supported Android requirements and look for an update from the app developer. Check OPPO’s software-update screen for your exact model and region rather than relying on another model’s schedule. If the app requires a newer Android version that your phone cannot receive, an app update, an older compatible release from the developer, or a supported replacement may be the only practical options; do not install untrusted copies to bypass the store.

Factory reset is a last resort
A factory reset should come after the reversible steps and a support diagnosis, not before them. OPPO’s reset guidance states that wiping the phone removes personal content, installed apps and their data, settings, and files stored internally. A reset is not guaranteed by the cited guidance to fix a post-update slowdown or crash.
Prepare before resetting
- Back up photos, videos, contacts, messages, documents, authenticator records, and app-specific data using methods you have verified.
- Confirm that the backup can actually be restored and that you know the passwords for your Google account, OPPO account, and important apps.
- Export data from apps that do not synchronize automatically, such as local notes, offline media, or games with device-only saves.
- Keep the phone charged and remove any external storage only according to the phone’s instructions.
Start the reset from the phone’s own settings
Search Settings for Reset or Erase all data. Depending on ColorOS, the path may be under System settings or Additional settings, followed by Back up and reset. Read the confirmation screen carefully and choose the factory-data option only when you understand that internal data will be erased. Afterward, restore only the information you backed up and test the phone before reinstalling every app.
When to contact OPPO
If restarting, updating, freeing storage, and app-level troubleshooting do not resolve the problem, contact OPPO customer support or a local service center. Service channels and repair availability vary by region and device. Provide the model number, region, Android and ColorOS versions, when the symptoms began, the affected apps, storage available, and the steps already attempted.
Escalate promptly if the phone repeatedly reboots, cannot complete an update, shows storage errors despite ample space, or has signs of physical damage. Support can determine whether your exact model has a known compatibility limitation, whether an update remains available, and whether hardware inspection is appropriate.
