If a PS4 game you paid for is missing, first sign in with the PlayStation account that bought it and verify the purchase in that account’s transaction history. Then check the PS4 library’s hidden-content list, restore licenses, and identify whether access actually comes from PlayStation Plus or another user’s primary-PS4 sharing. Only after those checks should you investigate service outages, system software, database corruption, or contact PlayStation Support.
Identify which kind of access disappeared
A missing icon does not always mean a purchase was deleted. PS4 access can come from three different sources, and each has a different proof and fix. Start by classifying the game before changing console settings.

These checks are not interchangeable. Restoring licenses cannot turn a Plus catalog title into a permanent purchase, and a transaction on one account will not appear in a different account’s history.

Sign in to the account that paid
On the PS4, switch to the PlayStation account that was used to buy the game. If several family members use the console, do not rely on the currently selected profile. A title purchased by another account belongs to that account, even when the game was installed on this PS4.

Check Transaction History
Open the PlayStation account’s Transaction History and look for the game. The entry should show a completed purchase, not an abandoned checkout, declined payment, or pending transaction. PlayStation’s download-troubleshooting guidance treats transaction history as the ownership check for a digital purchase.
- Purchase is present: Continue with hidden content and license checks. The console may simply be hiding the item or failing to validate its entitlement.
- Purchase is absent: Recheck every PlayStation account used by the household. Do not assume that an installed copy, saved data, or a previous download proves that the currently signed-in account owns it.
- Transaction is not successful: Resolve the payment or checkout issue with PlayStation before treating the game as a missing library item.
Keep the transaction date and any order details available. Support can use those details to distinguish an ownership problem from a console display problem.
2. Look in PS4’s hidden-content list
Games can be hidden from the library without being removed from the account. On PS4, open Library, choose Purchased, press the OPTIONS button, and select Check Hidden Content Items. This is the specific PS4 control described in PlayStation’s hidden-games guidance.

Sony notes that a game hidden in this way can be hidden from the libraries on all consoles, so check the hidden list even if the title is visible on another PS4 or PlayStation device.

After unhiding the title, return to Library > Purchased. If it still does not appear, continue with license restoration rather than repeatedly reinstalling unrelated data.
3. Restore the PS4 licenses
A valid purchase can fail to display when the console’s local license information is out of sync with the account. The official PS4 path is:
- Open Settings.
- Select Account Management.
- Choose Restore Licenses.
- Select Restore and wait for the process to finish.
PlayStation lists license restoration as a remedy when a game cannot be located. Its support page states: “Please note, restoring licenses won’t affect your data.” Read that as a safeguard for saved games and installed content: the operation refreshes entitlement information; it is not a request to delete the game or format the console. The full instructions are in How to restore licenses on PlayStation consoles.
Once restoration completes, check Library > Purchased again while signed into the purchasing account. If the title now appears, select it to download or start it. If it remains missing, the account may not own the title directly, or another access condition may be blocking it.

4. Verify whether PlayStation Plus supplies the game
Plus benefit versus direct purchase
A game obtained through PlayStation Plus should not be judged solely by the direct-purchase test. The entitlement depends on an active Plus subscription. If the subscription ended, the game can remain on the storage drive while becoming unavailable to launch.
Catalog availability matters
For a game supplied through a Plus catalog, the catalog must still include that title. A catalog game can leave the service even though you previously downloaded it. Check the current catalog listing for the game as well as the subscription status. This is a different test from finding a completed purchase in Transaction History.
If the game was a monthly Plus claim rather than a catalog title, confirm that it was actually added to the account during the eligible period and that the subscription is active now. Do not purchase the game again until you have established which Plus path applied.
5. Check sharing from another user’s primary PS4
If another person bought the game, your profile may be using that owner’s console sharing rather than owning the game itself. PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance says the owner should verify that this PS4 is activated as their primary PS4. Primary-PS4 activation is what allows other users on that console to use eligible games and benefits from the owner’s account.

- Ask the purchasing account holder to sign in on this console.
- Have that owner check whether this PS4 is activated as their primary PS4.
- If the owner has activated a different PS4, access on this console may stop even though the owner still sees the game in their own library.
Do not confuse shared access with a transfer of ownership. The transaction remains attached to the buyer’s account, so the buyer’s account is the one Support will need when ownership must be verified.

Check PlayStation service status
When account, hidden-content, license, Plus, and sharing checks all look correct, a temporary PlayStation service problem can prevent the library or entitlements from loading. Check the official PlayStation service-status page through Sony’s game-download troubleshooting article before making deeper changes. If services are impaired, wait until they recover and try the library again.
Install the latest PS4 system software
Use the PS4’s system-software update option and install any available update. A current system helps the console communicate with account and Store services using the software version Sony supports. Restart the PS4 after the update, sign into the purchasing account, and check the Purchased library.

If the service is operating, the system software is current, and the entitlement checks did not restore the title, Sony’s download troubleshooting flow includes Safe Mode > Rebuild Database. Treat this as a later diagnostic step, not the first response to a missing purchase. Database rebuilding is intended to reorganize the console’s content index; it does not establish ownership, reactivate a lapsed Plus subscription, or restore sharing from an account that no longer uses this PS4 as its primary console.

Follow Sony’s Safe Mode instructions carefully and select only Rebuild Database. Do not choose an initialization or reset option when your goal is merely to make a purchased game reappear. If the game is still absent after the rebuild, return to the account and transaction checks rather than repeatedly rebuilding.
7. Contact PlayStation Support with usable evidence
Escalate when the purchasing account shows a successful transaction, the game is not in hidden content, restoring licenses has not helped, Plus or sharing conditions are satisfied, and service and system checks are normal. PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance recommends contacting Support when those steps do not resolve the download or access problem.
Prepare the following before opening the case:
- The PlayStation account ID or sign-in email for the purchasing account.
- The game’s exact name and edition, if more than one edition exists.
- The transaction date, order information, and the result shown in Transaction History.
- Any error code or on-screen message, copied exactly.
- A short description of what you expected, what actually happened, and the steps that reproduce it.
- The date and time of an access attempt, including your time zone if relevant.
- A screenshot or video showing the account, Purchased library, hidden-content result, or error, when possible.
Use the support contact route provided in Sony’s download-troubleshooting article. Give Support the sequence you already completed; that prevents the case from starting over with generic reinstall instructions and helps them determine whether the entitlement is missing, hidden, shared, or temporarily unavailable.

A compact decision path
- Was the game bought directly? Verify a successful transaction under the buyer’s account.
- Is it hidden? Use Library > Purchased > OPTIONS > Check Hidden Content Items.
- Is the purchase valid but absent? Use Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses > Restore.
- Was access supplied by Plus? Confirm an active subscription and, for catalog titles, current catalog availability.
- Does another user own it? Have that owner verify this console is their primary PS4.
- Are services and software current? Check PlayStation status and install the latest PS4 system software.
- Still missing? Use Safe Mode’s Rebuild Database as a later step, then contact Support with transaction and reproduction evidence.
What not to do
- Do not buy the game again before checking every PlayStation account and the transaction history.
- Do not assume an installed game is a direct purchase; it may be a Plus title or shared from another user.
- Do not initialize the PS4 to solve a library-entry problem.
- Do not treat a catalog game as permanently owned after it leaves the Plus catalog.
- Do not omit error details or timestamps when contacting Support; those details make an entitlement issue easier to investigate.
