A HyperOS update that appears frozen is not always a failed update. Xiaomi releases software in model-specific and regional batches, and the updater performs separate download, package-verification and installation steps. First identify which stage has stopped, then use the remedy for that stage: confirm eligibility, try a different reliable network, check internal storage, retry the normal OTA process, or use HyperOS’s built-in full-package download.
Do not install a package intended for another model or region. Back up your data before any factory reset, and treat Xiaomi support as the next step when the built-in updater cannot recover.
Identify the stage before changing anything
“Stuck” can describe three different events. A download may stop because the phone cannot reach the update server. A downloaded package may fail Xiaomi’s online verification. An installation may appear complete while the phone is still preparing or reinstalling system files. The correct fix depends on that stage and on any error text shown on screen.

If the progress indicator reaches 100 percent, that may mean the file transfer is complete rather than that HyperOS has finished verifying and installing it. Read the accompanying message and watch whether the phone moves to verification or reinstallation before treating it as a failed download.

1. Confirm that your phone is included in the rollout
Xiaomi distributes HyperOS releases in batches. Availability can differ by exact model, sales region and the region selected or associated with the device. A release that has appeared on another phone is not proof that your phone should already have it.
- Open Xiaomi’s HyperOS eligibility information and check the exact model name and variant.
- Compare the phone’s region with the region where it was purchased. A device imported from another market can follow a different release schedule.
- Check the updater again only after confirming that the model and region are eligible.
A delayed batch is a rollout condition, not necessarily a damaged update process. Xiaomi’s update-availability FAQ describes a general update cycle of around two to three years, but that is not a dated statistic or a guarantee that every model receives every HyperOS version for that entire period.
2. If the download is stuck or repeatedly fails
Try a different available network
Xiaomi lists network or server connectivity as a reason an OTA package may fail to download. If the phone is on Wi-Fi, connect it to another reliable network that is already available to you and retry. This test can distinguish a problem with the current connection from a problem with the release or the phone.

When using mobile data, remember that HyperOS packages can be large. Xiaomi warns that downloading them over a cellular connection may create additional charges or consume a limited allowance. Check your plan before switching away from Wi-Fi.

Do not mistake an unavailable rollout for a network failure
If another network produces the same result and the model or region is not yet eligible, repeated retries will not make the batch appear. Wait for the release to reach that model and region or ask regional Xiaomi support or the seller about the device’s purchase channel.
3. Check internal phone memory before another installation attempt
The updater needs free internal storage to unpack and install the system files. Xiaomi’s guidance for the Xiaomi 14T specifically says that sufficient memory is required to avoid installation failure. That page does not define one universal free-space threshold for all Xiaomi phones, so do not rely on a single number advertised for every HyperOS device.
- Open the phone’s storage settings and review available internal space, not just removable or cloud storage.
- Remove or move files you no longer need, such as downloaded videos or duplicate photos, and clear large app downloads where appropriate.
- Keep important photos, documents and authentication data backed up before deleting anything.
- Return to the updater only after the phone has enough practical working space for the package and its temporary files.
If storage is already adequate, freeing more space is unlikely to solve a verification error; use the section that matches the displayed error instead.
4. Retry the ordinary HyperOS OTA update
After confirming eligibility, network access and storage, retry the normal update from the phone’s system settings. The exact wording can vary by device and software version, but the current HyperOS route documented by Xiaomi is:

- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone or About tablet.
- Tap the Xiaomi HyperOS icon or update entry.
- Start the available update or resume the download.
Record any error wording before dismissing it. “Download failed,” “verification failed” and an installation error point to different next actions. During the installation phase, do not deliberately interrupt the phone or replace the package with files obtained from an unrelated source.
5. Use the built-in full-package download when a normal retry fails
Xiaomi’s general OTA-failure guidance recommends downloading the latest full package from the system-update settings when simpler troubleshooting does not work. A full package is retrieved through the updater rather than assembled from a third-party file.
- Go to Settings → About phone/tablet → Xiaomi HyperOS.
- Open the three-dot menu.
- Choose the available option for downloading the latest full package. The label and whether the option is shown can vary by device and HyperOS version.
- Let the built-in updater download and verify that package, then follow its installation prompt.

This option is not a license to load a manually sourced firmware file. The safest package is the one the phone’s own updater offers for that device.

Xiaomi says the reinstallation package is checked to ensure that it is official and suitable for the phone model. Verification therefore protects both compatibility and authenticity. A failure can indicate that the package does not match the device or region, or that the download did not produce a valid file.

- Return to the HyperOS update screen and retry the official download.
- Use the full-package option in the three-dot menu if the normal retry continues to fail.
- Check the exact model and purchase region again.
- Do not select a package for a similar-looking model, a different regional build or another person’s phone.
If the built-in updater still cannot verify the package, contact Xiaomi support for the region in which the phone was sold. A support representative can determine whether the device’s regional software channel is eligible; an unofficial package can leave the phone unable to update or boot.

One hundred percent commonly describes completion of a transfer, not necessarily completion of verification and installation. First read the status text and allow the phone to proceed to its next stage. The meaningful question is whether it is still verifying or reinstalling, not merely whether the download counter has reached its maximum.
If the display remains unchanged and the phone reports an error, note the exact wording and return to the updater after a restart. Xiaomi’s post-update abnormality guidance recommends restarting and then manually downloading the latest package through the system updater. In HyperOS, use the documented full-package route rather than an undocumented button combination or a file from a forum. A search result suggesting that every phone should hold a volume button for a fixed period is not corroborated general Xiaomi guidance and should not be treated as a universal fix.
If the phone is actively installing or rebooting, avoid interrupting that process. If it cannot reach the system afterward, stop repeated attempts and seek Xiaomi or authorized service assistance with the model, region and the message shown on screen.

8. Separate a failed update from problems that appear after updating
A phone that boots into HyperOS but behaves abnormally is a different case from a package that never downloaded. Xiaomi’s post-update FAQ recommends this sequence:
- Restart the phone.
- Use the system updater to download the latest package manually.
- If persistent system-level faults remain, back up your data and consider a factory reset as a last resort.
A factory reset erases user data, so confirm that photos, messages, files, passkeys and other irreplaceable information are backed up before selecting it. Xiaomi states that its smartphones do not support rolling the system back to an earlier version. Do not plan on a rollback as a recovery method.
9. Escalate when the official steps do not work
Use the phone’s feedback function in Settings when Xiaomi’s documented steps do not solve the problem. Include the exact model, software region, update version if shown, the stage that stopped, the percentage displayed and the full error text. Those details are more useful than reporting only that the update is “stuck.”

Ask regional Xiaomi support about eligibility when the rollout is missing, and contact the seller when the phone was imported or its purchase region is unclear. For a phone that cannot boot after installation, use authorized service rather than experimenting with an unverified firmware package.
Checks to complete before trying again
- Exact model and regional eligibility confirmed.
- Current network replaced with another reliable connection if the download failed.
- Mobile-data charges considered before using cellular data.
- Enough free internal memory available; no universal Xiaomi-wide threshold assumed.
- Error stage identified as download, verification or installation.
- Normal OTA retry attempted from the HyperOS settings page.
- Built-in full-package option used only when offered by the updater.
- Backup completed before any factory reset.
These checks keep the remedy proportional: connection and rollout issues are handled as availability problems, verification errors stay within Xiaomi’s official updater, and destructive recovery is reserved for persistent post-update system faults.
