Stop touching the lifted film and contact the phone maker or an authorized service provider for your exact model. Don’t peel it off, press it back down, add adhesive, or install a generic replacement. Keep grit and sharp objects away from the flexible screen while you arrange service; the correct repair route depends on the phone, its market, and local service availability.
What to do right away
- Leave the film alone. Don’t pick at it, press down a raised edge, peel it back, or try to reattach it with glue or tape. Manufacturers warn that removing or applying film improperly can damage the display.
- Protect the flexible screen. Keep fingernails, pens, keys, sand, crumbs, and other grit away from the inner display. Avoid pressing at the fold, and check that no debris is on the screen before closing the phone.
- Contact the manufacturer or an authorized repair provider. Give them the exact phone model and country, explain when and where the film started lifting, and mention any display symptoms. Ask where the phone can be assessed, whether the film can be replaced, whether the display will also be checked, and what the service will cost.
- Request an assessment if the display seems affected. If the screen has visible damage or behaves abnormally, don’t assume the film is the only issue; ask the provider to assess the display.
The immediate goal is not to fix the lifted edge yourself. It is to avoid making contact with the flexible panel worse and to get instructions that match your phone. Manufacturers do not recommend a DIY method for pressing, gluing, or taping down a separated section.
Why you shouldn’t peel or press the film back down
The pre-installed inner film is designed for the phone’s flexible display, rather than being an ordinary screen protector that can be swapped at will. Manufacturers warn that removing it or fitting unapproved film can damage the panel or affect touch response and screen performance. Samsung describes its foldable display as having multiple layers and calls the protective film a replaceable consumable, but directs owners to support for replacement guidance rather than recommending improvised removal.
The word “replaceable” does not mean that every owner should peel off the old film and install another one. Samsung cautions that arbitrarily attaching or removing the film can damage the panel. It also warns that non-certified film may affect the display’s appearance or performance. Motorola’s Razr guidance is more specific: for the cited Razr (2024), it says approved service personnel should replace a protector that bubbles, warps, or separates. Google’s Pixel Fold instructions say not to remove or peel back the pre-installed protector because doing so can cause damage.

The flexible screen also needs careful handling. Google says the Pixel Fold’s inner screen is softer than a traditional phone screen and warns against crumbs, fingernails, and sharp objects. A raised edge can tempt you to pull at the film, but that does not establish that the film alone is damaged or that peeling it is safe. Nor does a visible bubble or lifted area, by itself, tell you whether the display underneath is affected.
For that reason, don’t treat advice for a conventional glass phone screen—or a different foldable—as a safe repair procedure. Avoid household adhesive, tape, a fingernail, a tool, or a replacement film found online. Manufacturer guidance does not establish any of these as an appropriate fix for a lifting inner protector.
Manufacturer guidance differs by phone
Follow the instructions for your exact model and market; these examples are not a single repair rule for every foldable. The cited Samsung guidance is from Samsung Philippines, so owners elsewhere should use the support channel for their own region. A manufacturer may have different service arrangements for different models or countries.
Motorola Razr
For the Razr (2024), Motorola says: “Contact an authorized Motorola service center if your screen protector has air bubbles, warps, or separates from the main screen during use.” It says approved service personnel should replace it and warns against self-replacement or unauthorized service, which may damage the main screen and void the warranty. Motorola also warns that third-party film can affect touch response or damage the display.
Motorola’s Razr family support page likewise says not to remove the pre-installed inner protector or use a third-party inner-screen protector. It points owners to service options if the film bubbles, deforms, or separates. These instructions support contacting service rather than attempting removal, but check the support guidance for your precise Razr model and market before arranging a repair.

Samsung foldables
Samsung says scratches, bubbles, and lifting can occur with wear, and directs owners to contact support for replacement guidance. It recommends keeping the film attached and cautions: “Be careful as the panel may be damaged if you arbitrarily attach or remove the protective film.” It also warns that non-certified film may affect appearance or performance.
The cited page is Samsung Philippines support. Use Samsung’s support channel for your own region and model to verify whether replacement is available, where it is performed, and what it costs. Samsung’s description of the film as a replaceable consumable is not a promise that replacement is free or available under the same terms everywhere.
