If a Discord bot unexpectedly asks for your credit-card or bank details, sends a suspicious link, asks you to scan a login QR code, or urges you to add it to a server, stop interacting. Don’t reply, click, submit information, scan the code, download anything, or invite the bot. Report the app or message in Discord. If you already shared payment details, contact your payment provider through an official channel; if you entered your Discord password or scanned a suspicious login QR code, secure your account promptly.
Is this Discord bot spam or a scam?
Treat an unsolicited bot message that offers something in exchange for a click, requests payment information, or directs you to a login page as suspicious. Discord’s Trust & Safety guidance says to disregard bot DMs that offer something or ask you to click a link. The important distinction is not whether the message looks polished or claims to come from a familiar service: it is an unexpected request to take an action that could expose your payment details, credentials, or server.
A request to scan a Discord login QR code deserves particular caution. A login QR code can be used to authorize account access; scanning a code supplied in an unexpected message may hand over access rather than verify your identity. Do not use a QR code or link supplied by the bot to investigate the message. Verify any claimed offer or account issue independently, using the service’s official app or website that you navigate to yourself.

What should I do first?
- Stop the interaction. Don’t reply, open a link, enter card or bank details, scan a QR code, download a file, or invite the bot.
- Report the app. Open the bot’s profile, select the three-dot menu, choose Report App, and select whether the concern is the app’s profile or its behavior. Pick the closest matching policy category.
- Report the message if appropriate. Select or long-press the message and choose Report Message. If you moderate the server, Discord also describes a Delete Message option that can remove the content while enabling a report.
- Choose next steps based on what happened. Receiving a message alone is different from submitting payment information, entering a password, or scanning a suspicious QR code. Follow the relevant steps below.
Discord’s interface labels and menu placement can differ between desktop, web, and mobile. If a menu looks different, use the bot’s profile or the message itself as the starting point rather than following instructions in the suspicious DM.
Keep the actions separate: reporting the app flags the application or its behavior, while reporting a message flags the specific content you received. You can use the option that best fits what happened; reporting both can make sense when both the bot and a particular message are concerning. Don’t assume a report itself will secure your account, payment method, or server. Those steps depend on what you shared or authorized.
How do I report a bot on Discord?
Report the application from its profile
- Open the bot’s profile.
- Open the three-dot menu.
- Choose Report App.
- Indicate whether you are reporting the app’s profile or its behavior, then choose the closest matching policy category.
Discord’s application-reporting guide also describes reporting through User Settings → Authorized Apps. That route is relevant when you are reviewing applications authorized on your account. Interface labels can vary across Discord clients.

Choose the profile route when the bot’s app is visible and you want to report its profile or conduct. The Authorized Apps route is another place to review and report applications associated with your account. Neither route requires you to interact with the suspicious bot or follow its link. If you are unsure which policy category fits, choose the closest available category rather than trying to resolve the issue by messaging the bot.
Report the message
To report a particular message, select it or long-press it, then choose Report Message. If you are a server moderator, the described Delete Message option can remove the content while allowing a report. Reporting the message and reporting the app address different parts of the incident: the message is the specific content you received, while the app report concerns the application or its conduct.

What to expect after a report
Discord’s January 22, 2026 guide says it uses automated and human-powered review to process reports. Review times can fluctuate with process changes, report volume, technical issues, and backlogs. A report does not guarantee that Discord will find a policy violation or take a particular enforcement action. Discord says the reported account is not ordinarily told who submitted the report, subject to legal requirements described in its guide.
There is no dependable response time to plan around, so take any account or payment-protection steps promptly instead of waiting for a report result. Discord’s guidance describes how reports are reviewed, but does not promise that a particular report will lead to removal, a warning, or another specific outcome.
What if I already clicked the link or shared information?
If you only received the message
If you did not interact with the message, don’t do so now. Report the app or message using Discord’s in-app options. If it appeared in a server you help moderate, use the available moderation tools and bring it to the server owner or moderators’ attention. The available guidance does not say that merely receiving a DM means your account or payment method has been compromised.
In other words, don’t treat receipt alone as proof that your credentials or payment details were exposed. The immediate supported response is not to engage and to report what you received. If you later realize you clicked, entered information, scanned a QR code, or authorized something, use the matching steps below.
If you clicked a link but did not enter anything
Stop using the page and do not download or open anything it offers. If you entered your Discord password, move to the account-security steps below. If the page asked for payment details and you submitted them, contact the relevant payment provider. The reviewed Discord guidance does not establish that clicking alone necessarily compromises an account, so base your response on what you actually entered or authorized.

Do not go back through the DM to check whether the page is legitimate, and don’t provide additional information to a page that prompted you unexpectedly. Verify a claimed offer or account problem separately through the relevant service’s official app or website, reached independently.
If you entered card or bank details
Contact your bank, card issuer, or payment service promptly using its official app, website, or phone number—not contact details supplied in the bot’s message or linked page. Tell the provider what information you disclosed, ask how to secure the payment method, and ask how to report or dispute unauthorized activity. Discord’s guidance identifies payment details as sensitive information that phishing may target, but it does not set out the provider’s dispute process or promise reimbursement.
The right procedure depends on the provider and payment method; Discord’s material does not specify a universal process, guarantee a reversal, or say that every disclosure will lead to a loss. Use the provider’s official channel for instructions tailored to your situation, and don’t pay a separate “recovery” charge or share more details with the suspicious sender.
If you entered your Discord password
Use Discord’s official account-security and support channels to secure the account. Review the account and any servers you own for changes. Discord warns that a person who controls an account may change credentials, view personal information and private conversations, and alter servers. The exact recovery route can depend on the account’s state, so use Discord’s official support channel if you can’t regain control or see changes you did not make.
Do not use the suspicious link to return to the login page or recover access. The reviewed guidance does not describe a specific recovery path for every account state, so rely on Discord’s official security and support options rather than a page or contact offered by the bot.

If you scanned a suspicious Discord login QR code
Discord specifically advises changing your password immediately after scanning a suspicious QR code. Discord says this invalidates the current account token and logs out all devices. Then review your account and any servers you own for changes you did not authorize. If you cannot access the account, use Discord’s official support channels.
This is a specific case where Discord gives a direct action: change the password immediately. Don’t delay that step while waiting to see whether anything unusual happens, and don’t treat the QR code as a harmless verification request just because it appeared in Discord.
What should I do if the bot is already in my server?
Don’t follow the bot’s prompts or grant it more access. Report the application through its profile, and tell the server owner or moderators what happened so they can assess the bot and any affected content. Discord warns that adding suspicious bots can compromise a server and that deleted content may not be recoverable. Avoid assuming that removing visible spam reverses any other changes; check the server for activity you did not authorize and use Discord’s official support channels if the account or server appears compromised.
If you are not the owner or a moderator, alert someone who can review the server rather than trying to grant the bot permissions or investigate through its messages. If you are a moderator, Discord’s described message option can delete the content while allowing a report. The available guidance warns about possible compromise but does not provide a universal server-recovery procedure, so use official support channels if you find unauthorized changes.
