After the Lithographic Stone door opens, follow the corridor until you see something run along the wall. Turn left immediately to find a cabinet containing the Small Key. Take the key back to the Bindery, unlock the drawer, and collect the Brass Pocket Watch. Then return to the corridor, move the bookshelf, deal with the Plaga encounter, and descend to the Merchant and Typewriter. Shoot the counterweight there to raise the gate and enter the castle battlements.
The route at a glance
The Lithographic Stone puzzle is not the end of the Bindery sequence. The next mandatory item is the Small Key, and the next major progression trigger is a counterweight near the Merchant and Typewriter.

Confirming the Lithographic Stone solution
If the door is still closed, check the fixed symbol arrangement before moving on. The four required positions are:

- Top: orange or red shield in a square.
- Right: blue sword in a square.
- Bottom: blue armor in a hexagon.
There are four stones in total. Three are found in the Bindery and one is already in the door. Their locations can vary slightly between playthroughs, but the icon-and-shape arrangement does not. Each stone has two sides, so rotate or flip a piece until the required symbol is visible in the required position. Once the door opens, the route below applies.

Leave the door and get the Small Key
Follow the corridor to the wall movement
Walk through the Lithographic doorway and stay on the corridor. Do not turn around to search the puzzle room for another progression trigger. Continue until you notice something run along the wall ahead.
Take the immediate left
When that wall-running movement appears, turn left immediately. The timing matters because the cabinet containing the key is at this nearby side turn, not farther along the main corridor. Open the cabinet and take the Small Key.
This is the first mandatory pickup after the puzzle. If you continue straight past the turn, you can miss the cabinet and reach the next obstruction without the item needed to claim the Bindery treasure.

Backtrack instead of searching ahead
With the Small Key in your inventory, turn back through the corridor and return to the Bindery. The key is used in the room you just left; it is not required on the battlements or at the next gate.
Unlock the locked drawer
Locate the locked drawer in the Bindery and use the Small Key. The drawer contains the Brass Pocket Watch. Open it before continuing, because the key’s useful purpose in this sequence is completed by this drawer.
After collecting the watch, leave the Bindery again and resume the corridor route. The locked drawer is an optional reward in the sense that it is not needed to open the battlements gate, but the Small Key is a limited opportunity in this section, so take the watch while you are backtracking.

Move the bookshelf and handle the Plaga encounter
Clear the corridor obstruction
Continue along the corridor beyond the key location. You will reach a bookshelf blocking the way. Push it aside to reveal the path forward.

Choose how to deal with the Plaga
Moving the bookshelf leads to a Plaga encounter. The creature can control a Zealot, producing the spider-like Plaga behavior associated with this route. You have two practical responses:
- Target the host: shoot the Zealot to stop the enemy controlling the Plaga.
- Target the Plaga: shoot the exposed Plaga itself when it separates or becomes the immediate threat.
The choice changes how you manage the encounter, not the route afterward. Keep enough room to move in the corridor, avoid letting the host pin you against the bookshelf, and proceed once the threat is cleared.
Open the way to the castle battlements
Find the Merchant and Typewriter
After the Plaga encounter, go downstairs. The route brings you to an area with the Merchant and a Typewriter. Use the Typewriter if you want to secure your progress before entering the battlements, then look for the counterweight that operates the nearby gate.
Shoot the counterweight
Fire at the counterweight. Destroying it raises the gate and opens the passage into the castle battlements. If the gate remains down, check that you are shooting the mechanism that holds it in place rather than another object in the room.
There is no alternate main route around this gate. The Small Key, Brass Pocket Watch, and the counterweight each belong to a different part of the sequence: the key is in the side cabinet, the watch is in the Bindery drawer, and the counterweight is the progression trigger near the Merchant.

Cross the castle battlements
Lower the first drawbridge
Once you enter the battlements, find and shoot the first counterweight. It lowers the drawbridge and gives you access to the next portion of the exterior route.
Use the sun and moon gate switches
The battlements include gates controlled by sun and moon switches. Operate the switches to open the matching doors and route yourself around the towers. If a door does not open, inspect the nearby gate mechanism and use the switch showing the required sun or moon symbol rather than searching for a key.
Move between the towers safely
As you climb and move around the towers, an armoured giant throws rocks across the battlements. Watch the open sightlines before crossing exposed sections, and use the available cover and tower structures to avoid the thrown projectiles. The objective in this part is to keep advancing around the towers until you can reach the cannon mechanism.
Raise and use the cannon
Destroy both cannon counterweights
The cannon is initially held down by two counterweights. Locate both and shoot them. Destroying the pair raises the cannon into firing position.
Fire at the armoured El Gigante
Turn the raised cannon toward the armoured El Gigante and fire. The cannon shot defeats the armoured giant and removes the major threat blocking the battlements route.
Open the large exit gate
After the giant is dealt with, rotate the cannon toward the large exit gate and fire again. This second shot creates the route out of the battlements. Follow the newly opened path toward the Courtyard.

Optional battlements and Bindery rewards
The main path does not require every collectible. If you are exploring, the Bindery and battlements contain additional items on side paths.

If you are focused on progression, collect the Small Key and watch first, then return for battlement valuables only when the sun/moon routing and cannon sequence are already clear. Optional exploration should not replace shooting the counterweights that advance the story.
Common points of confusion
“I left the puzzle room but cannot find the key.”
Keep following the corridor until the wall-running movement appears, then take the immediate left. The cabinet is reached from that turn. Continuing straight past it sends you away from the key.
“The Small Key does not open anything near the corridor.”
Take it back to the Bindery. The correct target is the locked drawer in the room with the Lithographic Stone door, and the reward is the Brass Pocket Watch.
“I have the watch, but the route still seems blocked.”
Leave the Bindery again, push aside the bookshelf farther along the corridor, and clear the Plaga encounter. The next progression area is downstairs at the Merchant and Typewriter.

“The gate near the Merchant will not rise.”
Find the counterweight controlling the gate and shoot it. The gate opens only after that mechanism is destroyed.
“I reached the battlements but cannot get past the giant.”
Advance around the towers using the sun and moon gate switches, then destroy both counterweights holding the cannon down. Fire the raised cannon at the armoured El Gigante. A later cannon shot aimed at the large exit gate opens the path toward the Courtyard.
Where Chapter 8 ends
After the cannon opens the exit, follow the path to the Courtyard. Chapter 8 ends with a cutscene there, and Chapter 9 follows. Reaching the Courtyard is the endpoint for this post-puzzle route; the Small Key, Bindery drawer, Plaga encounter, Merchant gate, battlement switches, and cannon are the required sequence that gets you there.
