Before moving an Australian mobile number to Felix Mobile, verify four things: the plan’s recurring price and speed rules, Vodafone coverage where you actually use your phone, any charges left with your current provider, and your ability to receive a verification SMS on the old SIM. Keep the old service active until the transfer finishes; Felix says the old service cancels automatically after a successful port.
The details below reflect Felix information checked on 13 October 2026. Prices, promotions, coverage and terms can change, so confirm them again during signup.
Start with a decision checklist
Do not cancel your existing service first. Work through these checks while your current SIM still works:

- Compare the standard monthly Felix price—not only an introductory discount—with your real monthly data use.
- Use Felix’s coverage checker for your home, workplace and regular travel routes. Felix uses Vodafone’s network, but a national network statement cannot guarantee service at a particular address.
- Ask your current provider about port-out fees, unpaid balances, device repayments and any other account conditions.
- Confirm that the handset is unlocked, compatible with Felix and, if relevant, compatible with eSIM or 5G.
- Make sure the old SIM can receive SMS and that the account details you submit match your current provider’s records.
- Choose a physical SIM or eSIM before ordering, based on what you can install and activate reliably.
Match the Felix plan to your actual use
Felix’s current plan range separates data allowance from network speed. The headline “unlimited” label does not mean uncapped performance. Review the recurring price and the speed ceiling together.

Felix warns that offers may be changed or withdrawn and that discounted prices can be limited by time or eligibility. Calculate the cost after the discount ends, then check whether that recurring amount fits your budget.
Check what happens when data runs out
On the 25GB and 50GB plans, data banking can carry unused data forward under Felix’s terms. Once both the current allowance and banked data are used, Felix describes continued access at up to 1.5Mbps. That may handle messaging, email and basic webpages, but large downloads, high-resolution video and software updates can be slow.
Separate data volume from speed
The unlimited plans remove an allowance limit but retain a maximum advertised speed. A handset may still perform below 40Mbps or 80Mbps because of signal strength, congestion, device capability or location. Unlimited+ is only a practical option if your phone supports the required 5G bands and you routinely use it in Felix’s 5G coverage.

Felix describes data use in Australia within Vodafone coverage. Tethering to personal devices is allowed subject to its Fair Use Policy, but the plans are not intended to operate as a modem or replace home or office internet. International calls, texts and roaming require separate products, and the available destinations can vary. If you travel or call overseas, inspect those separate rates before switching.

Test coverage where you need it
Run Felix’s coverage check using the exact addresses that matter rather than relying on a national coverage claim. Test your home, work, study location, commute and frequently visited regional areas. Indoor performance can differ from outdoor performance, and a route that crosses several coverage zones may produce inconsistent service.
Coverage and speed are related but not identical. Felix says actual speeds depend on your device, location, congestion and coverage. A phone that works well on another network is not evidence that it will perform identically on Vodafone’s network. If reliable service is essential for work, navigation or emergency communication, check each critical location before ordering.
Find every cost attached to leaving your current provider
Felix specifically warns that your existing provider may charge a “port out” fee. Contact that provider and ask for an account-specific figure before you submit the transfer.
- Port-out or cancellation fee: ask whether transferring the number triggers a charge and when it will be billed.
- Outstanding service balance: confirm the final bill, including usage that has not yet been invoiced.
- Device repayments: a number transfer may not end handset-finance obligations. Ask whether instalments continue and how the remaining balance is collected.
- Bundled services or discounts: moving a mobile line can alter discounts on other services. Get the provider to explain any change in writing.
- Account access: make sure you can still sign in or retrieve statements after the old SIM stops working.
Felix’s own monthly subscription is described as cancellable without an exit fee, but that does not cancel debts or conditions imposed by your old provider.

Prepare the number transfer correctly
Use the right identity details
Felix asks for payment-type information that matches the old provider’s records:
- Postpaid: provide the current account number or account ID.
- Prepaid: provide the account holder’s date of birth.
A mismatch can delay or fail the transfer. If you are unsure which identifier your provider uses, check its app, bill or support team before starting.
Keep the old SIM active
Felix sends a six-digit verification code by SMS to the old SIM. Leave that SIM in the phone, keep the account active and ensure the handset can receive messages. Do not dispose of or deactivate it after placing the order; it is needed for authentication and may remain your working service until the port completes.

Check handset and account readiness
Confirm that the phone is compatible with Felix and is not restricted to another carrier. Back up contacts and authentication methods that depend on the old number. Keep access to your email and Felix account in case support needs to contact you while service changes.

Follow the transfer in the right order
- Choose the Felix plan. Record the regular monthly price, data rule, speed cap and any promotion end date shown at checkout.
- Select physical SIM or eSIM. For eSIM, confirm device compatibility and have Wi-Fi or a stable hotspot available. For a physical SIM, order it through Felix’s app or website.
- Start the number-transfer flow. Enter your current provider, payment type and matching account details.
- Receive and enter the six-digit SMS code. The code is sent to the old SIM as part of Felix’s fraud-protection process.
- Leave the old service running. Keep the old SIM inserted until it loses service and Felix indicates the transfer is complete.
- Activate the Felix service. Activate a delivered physical SIM in the Felix app. For an eSIM port, Felix describes completing the number transfer first, then returning to the app to set up the eSIM over Wi-Fi or a stable hotspot.
- Restart if necessary. If the new service does not appear immediately after the old SIM stops working, restart the phone and check the selected line and mobile-data settings.
Understand the timing and processing window
Felix says most switches complete within a few minutes and that a number switch usually takes less than two hours, but it can take up to three hours. These are Felix’s process estimates, not an independent service guarantee.
The published processing window is 8am–8pm Monday to Friday and 10am–6pm AEST on Saturday. You may submit a request outside those hours, but processing follows the stated window. Plan the change when you can tolerate temporary disruption—for example, avoid beginning immediately before a critical work call or while travelling.
When the old SIM loses service, Felix says the transfer has completed and the old service automatically cancels. If the old SIM cannot receive the verification SMS, the account information does not match, or the transfer remains pending beyond the stated window, contact Felix before cancelling anything manually.
Choose between a physical SIM and eSIM

For either option, preserve the old SIM until the number has moved. An eSIM does not remove the SMS-verification requirement; the code still goes to the old service.

Know the ongoing Felix terms
- Monthly renewal: Felix describes monthly subscriptions that renew until cancelled.
- Pausing: a plan can be paused for up to 119 days under the described terms.

Save a copy of the plan summary and terms shown on the day you activate. Promotions and eligibility rules are date-sensitive.
Use this comparison framework if you are weighing alternatives
Do not compare providers on headline price alone. Record the following for each option:
- Recurring price after every introductory offer ends.
- Included data, rollover or banking rules, and the speed after allowance exhaustion.
- Maximum advertised speed and any device or 5G requirement.
- Coverage at your actual addresses and travel routes.
- International calling, texting and roaming costs for the destinations you use.
- Charges and remaining obligations with the provider you are leaving.
- SIM format, delivery time, activation method and internet requirements.
This method exposes the trade-offs that a low first-month price or “unlimited” label can hide.

Proceed when the regular Felix price fits your budget, coverage is acceptable at every important location, your phone supports the chosen SIM and speed tier, and your current provider has confirmed its final charges. Start during Felix’s processing hours with the old SIM active and a reliable way to connect to Wi-Fi if you are using eSIM.
Wait and investigate if you cannot receive the verification SMS, do not know the old account identifier, depend on a location where coverage is uncertain, need international roaming that Felix does not clearly include, or still owe device repayments whose treatment is unclear. Resolving those issues first is safer than cancelling and trying to recover a number after a failed transfer.
