Before ordering Starlink, verify the exact service address, the plan and price shown for that address, the kit and mounting hardware you will receive, and whether your property has a clear view of the sky. Residential plans include unlimited data, but unlimited data is not a promise of a particular speed. Starlink says performance changes with location, time of day, congestion and plan precedence.

The practical buying decision is therefore site-specific: confirm eligibility in Starlink’s order flow, record the current equipment and monthly charges, inspect the proposed dish location, and match the plan’s speed and priority to how your household actually uses the connection.

Is Starlink available at my address?

Availability is determined by the service address, not simply by country, state, province or a nearby customer’s experience. Starlink’s map distinguishes service that is available now from areas awaiting coverage or regulatory approval. A broad “Starlink serves this country” statement cannot establish that your home can order service.

Check the precise address

  1. Open Starlink’s official availability map or ordering page.
  2. Enter the complete address where the dish will be installed, including the correct postal or ZIP code.
  3. Review the status returned for that location. It may show active availability, a pending-coverage or regulatory status, or another local restriction.
  4. Continue into the account and order flow far enough to see the plan, kit and charges offered for that address.

The result shown for your address at purchase time is the authoritative check. Do not substitute a country-level coverage list, a social-media report or a neighbor’s account for that result. Two nearby addresses can receive different offers because capacity, network planning, local rules and plan inventory are address-dependent.

What “available” does and does not mean

An available address can still have practical installation constraints. You may need a different mounting position, a longer cable route, additional hardware or professional help. Availability also does not guarantee a fixed speed. Starlink’s specifications state that performance varies by location, time and service-plan precedence, and that stated speeds and uninterrupted use are not guaranteed.

Which Residential plan is offered locally?

Residential plan names, speed tiers and priority levels vary by market. Starlink’s current Residential help information describes unlimited-data options, including capped-speed tiers in some areas and a higher-priority Max tier in some markets. The choices displayed for one country or address are not a universal catalog.

Compare the offer shown for your address

What to check Why it matters
Plan name and location The same name may not be offered in every market, and local availability can change.
Advertised speed cap A capped tier limits the maximum download rate even when the network has spare capacity.
Network priority Higher-priority service may perform better than lower-priority service during busy periods.
Data definition Residential plans are described as unlimited data, but that does not remove congestion-related slowdowns.
Fixed-location rules Residential service is intended for personal or household use at a fixed, land-based location.
Promotional terms A discount can be temporary, address-specific or tied to a particular kit or plan.

Save a copy or screenshot of the offer before paying. Record the plan’s name, advertised cap, regular monthly price, promotional end date if one is shown, taxes or fees, and any stated installation conditions. This gives you a reference if the offer changes before you complete setup.

How much does Starlink cost per month?

Starlink directs prospective buyers to enter an address and choose “Order Now” to preview the monthly service price and the upfront kit price for that location. That order flow, rather than a generic article or an old screenshot, is the purchase-time authority.

US price snapshot (accessed in 2026)

The US Residential plan page returned the following displayed monthly prices when accessed in 2026:

Plan shown Displayed monthly price Important qualification
Residential 100 Mbps $55/month Shown as available only in select areas; download speed capped at 100 Mbps.
Residential 200 Mbps $85/month Shown as available only in select areas; download speed capped at 200 Mbps.
Residential Max $130/month Described as the top Residential network-priority tier on that page.

These are market- and time-specific observations, not a universal quote or a guarantee that your address will show the same prices. Recheck the current offer in your own account flow. Prices, taxes, shipping, discounts, plan names and eligibility can change.

How much is the Starlink dish or kit, and what is included?

Starlink describes a standard kit as containing the user terminal (dish), a Wi-Fi router and power supply, cables and a base. The exact kit generation and contents sold in your market can differ. Starlink’s Residential product information describes a V5 terminal as available only in select areas while production ramps, so do not assume that every buyer receives V5 or another named generation.

Verify the exact hardware before checkout

  • Read the kit description attached to your address and plan.
  • Note the model or generation shown, if provided.
  • Check cable lengths and connector details against your proposed installation route.
  • Confirm whether the included base suits a ground, deck or temporary placement, or whether a structural mount is required.
  • Check return, warranty and activation terms displayed in the order flow.

An additional roof, pole or wall mount is conditional, not automatically required. Whether you need one depends on the structure, installation location and the kit generation. If you buy an accessory, match it to the exact terminal model shown in your order; a mount designed for another generation may not fit.

Do I need a clear view of the sky for Starlink?

Yes. The terminal needs an unobstructed view of the sky. Trees, roof lines, chimneys, towers and other obstructions can interrupt the satellite link and cause dropouts even when the address is eligible.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Survey the site before ordering

  1. Stand at the proposed dish location and identify everything that could enter the sky view: trees, nearby buildings, ridges, poles and seasonal growth.
  2. Use Starlink’s app obstruction-checking function to evaluate candidate locations.
  3. Test more than one position if the first location has a partial view.
  4. Decide whether the terminal can sit on the included base or needs a roof, wall or pole mount.
  5. Trace a safe cable route to the router and power source, avoiding sharp bends, pinch points and areas where water can collect.
  6. Confirm that the power outlet is reliable and that weather exposure is appropriate for the equipment and cable path.

Starlink lists installation environment, dish angle and field of view, weather, cable condition and placement, power reliability and other site factors as influences on performance. A clear view is therefore a property question, not merely an accessory question.

Common installation locations

Location Potential advantage Checks required
Ground or deck Easy access for testing and adjustment. Stable base, unobstructed sky, protection from movement, snow and water.
Roof Often provides a wider view above trees and nearby structures. Compatible mount, safe access, weather sealing and a protected cable route.
Wall or eave Can avoid roof penetrations and keep equipment off the ground. Structural strength, clearance from the wall and exact mount compatibility.
Pole Useful when the ground or roof is obstructed. Correct diameter and mount, wind stability, grounding and safe installation.

Does Starlink have data caps?

Starlink’s Residential help page says Residential plans include unlimited data. That statement describes the data allowance; it does not promise a fixed speed at all times. Starlink’s specifications warn that actual performance changes with location, time of day and service-plan precedence, and may fall below expected speeds during high usage.

Unlimited data versus unlimited speed

  • Unlimited data: The plan is described as allowing ongoing household use without a stated monthly data quota.
  • Speed cap: Some Residential tiers set a maximum download rate, such as the 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps options shown in the US snapshot.
  • Congestion: Busy periods can reduce throughput even when you have not used an unusual amount of data.
  • Priority: A higher-priority plan may receive better network treatment than a lower-priority plan when capacity is constrained.
  • Reliability: Obstructions, weather, power interruptions and cable problems can cause interruptions independently of data usage.

For a household that streams, works remotely, updates games or backs up photos, unlimited data removes one type of bill shock but not the need to assess capacity and peak-time performance.

What speed can I expect from Starlink?

Starlink’s specifications list broad typical ranges of 25–220 Mbps download, 5–20 Mbps upload and 25–60 ms land latency. Starlink explicitly says these figures are not guaranteed and that performance varies by location, time and plan. They should be treated as a service description, not a promise for an individual address.

The Residential product page also describes up to 375+ Mbps for V5 in select areas. “Up to” is a maximum stated by the product page, not an expected result for every V5 customer or every plan.

Match speed expectations to tasks

Household need Questions to ask before ordering
Web, email and messaging Will the proposed location remain stable, and is the plan’s cap more than sufficient for simultaneous light use?
Video meetings and remote work Can the site avoid obstructions, and is upload performance adequate for multiple cameras and cloud applications?
Several simultaneous streams How will peak-time congestion affect the address, and does a capped tier leave enough headroom?
Large uploads, backups or game downloads Is the upload range acceptable, and can downloads be scheduled outside busy periods?
Low-latency gaming or specialized applications Will variable latency and occasional interruptions be acceptable for the specific application?

Ask neighbors about their experience only as a local clue. Their plan, dish location, obstruction profile and network conditions may differ from yours.

Is Residential service suitable for travel?

Starlink describes Residential plans as “designed for personal or household use at a fixed, land-based location.” A buyer who needs travel, multiple locations or in-motion connectivity should not assume a Residential plan covers that use. Check the current terms for the plan category intended for that activity before ordering.

What can reduce performance after installation?

  • Obstructions: Trees and structures crossing the dish’s view can create repeated interruptions.
  • Peak demand: Network congestion can lower speeds during busy periods.
  • Plan precedence: Lower-priority service may slow more than higher-priority service under the same network conditions.
  • Weather: Severe weather can affect the radio link or physical installation.
  • Power: An unreliable outlet, tripped breaker or long unsuitable extension can interrupt service.
  • Cable damage: Pinched, sharply bent or exposed cable can cause intermittent connectivity.
  • Mount movement: A loose or unstable base can change the terminal’s view and alignment.
  • Wi-Fi placement: Even when the satellite link is healthy, a router placed behind dense walls or far from users can make the connection appear slow.

Troubleshoot in a useful order

  1. Check the app for obstruction warnings and terminal status.
  2. Inspect the dish base or mount for movement.
  3. Check every cable and connector for looseness, moisture, crushing or sharp bends.
  4. Confirm that the router and terminal have stable power.
  5. Compare performance at different times to distinguish local Wi-Fi problems from peak-period congestion.
  6. Run a wired or near-router test before judging whole-home Wi-Fi coverage.
  7. Contact Starlink support with the address, plan, terminal status and observed times if the problem persists.

A practical pre-order checklist

  • Exact address entered into Starlink’s current availability and order flow.
  • Service status confirmed as available now rather than pending approval.
  • Plan name, speed cap, priority description and monthly rate recorded.
  • Promotion end date and regular post-promotion rate recorded.
  • Kit price, taxes, shipping and other checkout charges recorded.
  • Kit generation, included base, cables, router and power supply verified.
  • Clear-sky location checked with Starlink’s app.
  • Mounting surface, wind exposure and cable route assessed.
  • Reliable power outlet identified.
  • Residential fixed-location terms matched to your intended use.
  • Expected congestion and non-guaranteed performance accepted for your household.

When should you wait or reconsider?

Pause the order if the map shows pending coverage or regulatory approval, if no candidate location has a clear sky view, or if the required mount and cable route cannot be installed safely. Also pause if the locally offered speed cap or peak-time variability conflicts with work, gaming or other uses that require more predictable performance.

Proceed when the address is eligible, the displayed cost fits your budget after promotions end, the site survey identifies a stable unobstructed location, and the plan’s fixed-location terms and non-guaranteed performance match your expectations.

What to recheck at purchase time

Offers and hardware generations change. Reopen the official map and order flow immediately before payment, verify the address character by character, and read the current plan and kit descriptions. The prices and performance figures quoted here are dated guidance: the US monthly examples were displayed in 2026, while the typical speed ranges and V5 description come from Starlink pages accessed in 2026.
