Before buying HCLTech shares, separate three questions: what the company does, whether its operating performance is durable, and whether the current market price already reflects that performance. HCLTech’s latest reported quarter was Q2 FY2027, announced on October 12, 2026, but the material available here does not include a dated NSE or BSE share price, valuation multiple, peer dataset, analyst consensus, or a complete company-specific risk summary. You therefore cannot reach a price-based buy conclusion from the operating figures alone.
Use the checklist below to assemble those missing pieces, test the company’s results over several periods, read the full disclosures, and decide whether the risk fits your objectives and time horizon. This is an evaluation framework, not a personalized recommendation.
1. Understand what HCLTech actually sells
HCLTech describes itself as a technology company whose capabilities include artificial intelligence, digital services, engineering, cloud, and software. The company says it serves multiple industries and reports more than 230,000 employees in 60 countries. Its investor page states that consolidated revenue for the 12 months ending September 2026 was $14.8 billion. Treat these as company descriptions and company-reported operating statistics, not independent verification.

Map the revenue engine
Read the latest annual report and quarterly presentation until you can explain, in plain language, how each major business line earns money. Identify which activities are recurring services, project-based work, software or products, and managed operations. Then record the share of revenue associated with each line, the industries served, and the regions where customers are located. A strategy label such as “AI” or “cloud” does not tell you how much profit it produces, how quickly contracts convert to revenue, or how vulnerable it is to a client’s budget cuts.

Look for concentration and mix changes
Compare the current mix with prior annual and quarterly reports. Ask whether growth is broad across industries and clients or concentrated in a few large contracts. Check whether a faster-growing business is large enough to change total-company results, and whether lower-margin work is replacing higher-margin work. A headline growth rate can look healthy while the mix becomes less profitable or more dependent on a small number of customers.
Interpret advanced-AI claims carefully
HCLTech reported advanced-AI revenue of $219 million in Q2 FY2027, up 78.0% year over year in constant currency. That is evidence of reported activity in a defined company category; it is not proof that future earnings will grow at the same rate. Find the company’s definition of advanced-AI revenue, determine whether it includes implementation, consulting, software or consumption revenue, and check its margin and repeatability. Compare the category’s growth with its contribution to total revenue and cash generation.
2. Read the latest results with the right definitions
The table below captures HCLTech’s Q2 FY2027 figures as announced by the company on October 12, 2026. “Sequential” compares with the immediately preceding quarter; “year over year” compares with the same quarter a year earlier. Constant-currency figures remove the reported-period effect of exchange-rate movements, while reported figures include those movements.

| Measure | Q2 FY2027 result | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | ₹35,620 crore; up 3.0% sequentially and 11.5% year over year | Use the two growth bases separately. A sequential acceleration and a year-over-year comparison answer different questions. |
| US-dollar revenue | $3,724 million; up 2.0% sequentially and 2.2% year over year | Compare with the rupee figures only after understanding currency effects and the company’s reporting convention. |
| Constant-currency revenue | Up 2.3% sequentially and 2.6% year over year | Useful for operating-trend analysis, but it is a non-reported presentation that must be read with the company’s definition. |
| EBIT margin | 18.2% | Check the underlying EBIT amount, the period definition and whether exceptional or restructuring items affected comparability. |
| Net income | ₹5,132 crore | Reconcile it to operating profit, finance items, tax and any one-off charges in the detailed release. |
| Diluted EPS | ₹70.22 | Use an EPS period consistent with the share price date when calculating P/E. |
| New-deal total contract value | $3,258 million | TCV represents booked contract value, not immediate revenue or profit. Check duration, cancellation terms and conversion timing. |
| Free-cash-flow to net-income ratio | 87% on a last-twelve-month basis | Review the company’s definitions and the cash-flow statement; a ratio is not a substitute for examining absolute cash generation. |
| Return on invested capital | 41.2% on a last-twelve-month basis | Verify the invested-capital and annualization methods before comparing with other companies. |
| Advanced-AI revenue | $219 million; up 78.0% year over year in constant currency | Check the category definition, profitability and scale before treating the growth rate as evidence of a company-wide trend. |
HCLTech notes that Q2 EBIT and net-income margins included restructuring costs of 84 and 62 basis points, respectively. Read the detailed financial release to see how those costs were classified, whether they are expected to recur, and how management presents adjusted measures. Do not compare an adjusted margin in one period with an unadjusted margin in another.
Reconcile the three growth views
Start with reported rupee revenue, then review US-dollar revenue and constant-currency growth. If the percentages differ, determine whether exchange rates, acquisitions, disposals, calendar effects or other disclosed items explain the gap. Keep a note beside every percentage stating the currency, comparison period and whether it is reported or constant currency. This prevents a sequential number from being mistaken for an annual growth rate.
Separate bookings from recognized revenue
The new-deal TCV figure can indicate future work, but it does not state when revenue will be recognized, what margin the work will earn, or how much may be cancelled or renegotiated. Examine the release and annual report for contract duration, renewal patterns, backlog or order-book definitions, and the relationship between TCV and later revenue.

3. Build a multi-period operating scorecard
One quarter cannot establish a durable trend. Download several years of annual reports and at least eight to twelve quarters of results, then fill in the same measures for every period. Keep reported and constant-currency series in separate columns.
| Measure | Questions to answer | Warning signs to investigate |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue growth | Is growth positive across several periods? Is it broad by service, industry, geography and client size? | One strong quarter, repeated deceleration, or growth concentrated in one account or vertical. |
| EBIT and margin | How stable is profitability through different demand conditions? What is the margin before and after disclosed exceptional items? | Falling margins despite revenue growth, unexplained adjustments, or a widening gap between reported and adjusted results. |
| Net income | Does profit track operating performance, or are tax, finance, investment or other items driving the change? | Profit rising while operating cash flow weakens, or large one-time gains masking ordinary earnings. |
| Diluted EPS | Does per-share earnings grow with net income after accounting for share-count changes? | EPS growth that depends on buybacks or a changing diluted share count rather than higher operating profit. |
| Operating and free cash flow | Does cash conversion remain healthy over a full cycle? What working-capital movements explain deviations? | Persistent cash conversion below profit, rising receivables, or large unexplained contract assets. |
| Deal wins and conversion | How consistently do announced contracts convert into revenue and cash? | High bookings without corresponding revenue, margin or backlog visibility. |
| Returns on capital | Are returns sustained, and do the company’s definitions match those used for peers? | A high ratio produced by a shrinking denominator, acquisitions, or a methodology that differs from competitors. |
Read footnotes before drawing a trend line
For each period, mark restructuring charges, acquisitions, disposals, impairment, tax changes, foreign-exchange effects and accounting-policy changes. The company’s reported result is the correct starting point for what shareholders received, but adjustments may be useful for judging ongoing operations only when they are clearly defined and consistently applied. Keep both views rather than replacing reported results with management’s preferred measure.
Test whether growth is broad-based
Use segment, industry, geography and client disclosures to determine where growth originated. Do not infer breadth from the consolidated revenue percentage. A broad improvement across several businesses is a different risk profile from a single large project or a favorable comparison with a weak prior quarter.
4. Compare management’s guidance with execution
For FY2027, HCLTech’s stated management outlook is constant-currency revenue growth of 2.5%–4.0%, services revenue growth of 3.0%–4.0%, and an EBIT margin of 17.5%–18.5%. Guidance is management’s outlook, not a promise.
| Guidance item | FY2027 range | Checks to perform |
|---|---|---|
| Constant-currency revenue growth | 2.5%–4.0% | Compare each subsequent quarter with the range and note whether the outlook was raised, maintained or reduced. |
| Services revenue growth | 3.0%–4.0% | Confirm the services definition and whether products or other activities are excluded. |
| EBIT margin | 17.5%–18.5% | Check whether the range is reported or adjusted and how restructuring or other items affect comparability. |
Create a guidance diary
- Write down the guidance range, publication date, currency basis and margin definition.
- For every later result, record actual growth and margin on the same basis.
- Note the stated reasons for any change, such as demand, pricing, utilization, wage costs, currency or one-off charges.
- Check whether the company’s explanation is visible in segment, client or geographic data rather than relying only on the headline commentary.
- Review the eventual full-year result against the original range, not only the latest revised outlook.
Execution quality matters as much as the midpoint of a forecast. Repeatedly meeting guidance can indicate useful planning discipline, but it does not guarantee future results. Missing guidance may reflect a temporary shock or a structural change; investigate the cause before assigning either interpretation.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →5. Value the shares independently of the business results
Good operating performance does not prove that a share is attractively priced. Valuation requires a market price tied to a specific date and exchange, a consistent earnings or cash-flow period, and comparable peer data. Those inputs were not established here, so no conclusion that HCLTech is cheap or expensive is justified.
Collect a dated price and share count
Use the closing price or another clearly identified NSE or BSE price for the date of your analysis. Record whether the price is adjusted for corporate actions. Obtain the diluted or basic share count appropriate to the valuation measure and confirm the reporting currency. Do not combine an undated price with a later EPS figure.
Calculate common multiples
- P/E: share price divided by earnings per share for a clearly stated trailing or forward period. Use the same EPS definition in the numerator and denominator.
- Market capitalization: share price multiplied by the relevant shares outstanding. State whether options, restricted awards or other dilutive instruments are included.
- Enterprise value: market capitalization plus debt and other debt-like items, minus cash and cash equivalents, using a consistent balance-sheet date.
- EV/EBIT: enterprise value divided by EBIT for the same trailing or forecast period. Explain any treatment of leases, exceptional items or minority interests.
- Free-cash-flow yield: normalized free cash flow divided by market capitalization. Define free cash flow and avoid treating a single working-capital release as sustainable.
Compare the right things
Compare HCLTech with relevant technology-services peers over identical periods and definitions, then compare its current multiples with its own historical range. A higher multiple can be rational when growth, margins, cash conversion or balance-sheet quality are stronger; a lower multiple can reflect weaker prospects or higher risk. Without peer figures and a dated price, any ranking would be speculation.
Run a sensitivity check
Model at least three cases for revenue growth, EBIT margin, tax, cash conversion and the valuation multiple. Change one assumption at a time so you can see whether the investment case depends on a narrow outcome. Label every assumption as reported, management guidance or your own estimate. This exercise is not a forecast of what will happen; it shows how much price risk your assumptions create.

6. Read the full annual report for risks and accounting details
The FY2025–26 annual report is available through HCLTech’s official investor-relations materials. Read the management discussion, risk factors, client and industry disclosures, capital-allocation discussion and accounting notes rather than relying on a short results release. The available material does not establish a complete company-specific risk ranking.
Questions for the risk-factor section
- How does the company describe customer concentration, renewal dependence and exposure to client spending cycles?
- Which industries and geographies contribute material revenue, and what economic or regulatory conditions could affect them?
- What currency, interest-rate, tax, legal, cybersecurity, data-protection or delivery risks does management disclose?
- How are attrition, utilization, wage changes, subcontracting and talent availability reflected in costs and margins?
- What commitments, contingencies, guarantees or litigation exposures appear in the notes?
- How does management allocate cash among dividends, buybacks, acquisitions, debt reduction and investment?
These are questions to answer from the company’s disclosures, not assertions that any particular risk is currently dominant. Record the page and reporting date for each material item so that you can identify changes in later filings.
Check accounting quality
Reconcile revenue recognition policies with contract terms, inspect receivables and contract assets, and compare operating cash flow with reported profit. Review goodwill and other intangible assets after acquisitions, lease accounting, tax reconciliations and segment reporting. Look for changes in definitions of non-GAAP measures, diluted shares or constant-currency calculations that could make periods appear more comparable than they are.

7. Decide whether the investment fits your circumstances
SEBI investor guidance emphasizes matching investments to objectives and risk appetite, diversifying, and considering the investment horizon. Equity prices can fall and returns are not guaranteed. Do not place near-term essential spending or emergency reserves in a volatile equity position.
Set a personal risk test
- Write the goal, target date and amount before considering the share.
- Estimate how a substantial price decline would affect your finances and behavior.
- Decide the maximum position size and how it fits with existing exposure to Indian equities, technology companies, currencies and the same economic drivers.
- Specify what evidence would make you reduce or exit the position, such as a sustained deterioration in cash generation, a broken investment thesis or a changed personal objective.
- Keep a time horizon long enough to tolerate operating and market volatility; a short horizon is incompatible with assuming that a good business will quickly produce a favorable share price.
Diversification reduces the effect of one company’s disappointment but does not eliminate market risk. Your allocation decision should be made separately from your assessment of HCLTech’s business quality.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.8. Use the regulated infrastructure required to trade in India
SEBI says an investor needs three linked arrangements: a demat account with a registered depository participant, a trading account with a SEBI-registered broker of a recognized exchange, and a bank account for payments. The broker facilitates transactions; it does not remove investment risk or guarantee a return.
- Verify the intermediary’s registration and the exchange or depository relationship through official records.
- Read account-opening documents, risk disclosures, tariff sheets, brokerage, taxes, custody and other charges before signing.
- Confirm how orders, contract notes, statements, pledges and complaints are handled.
- Use only your own verified payment and login channels, and protect account credentials and two-factor authentication.
- Do not use an unregistered intermediary, hand over trading control, or borrow money to buy shares.
- Keep confirmations and statements so you can reconcile holdings, cash and charges.
Account setup is an operational prerequisite, not evidence that a particular share is suitable. Complete the business, valuation and personal-fit checks before placing an order.
9. A practical HCLTech decision worksheet
Use one dated worksheet and update it after every filing. This keeps evidence, assumptions and judgment separate.
| Worksheet area | Entry to record |
|---|---|
| Business | Revenue by service, product, industry, geography and client concentration; definitions and reporting period. |
| Operating trend | At least several years and eight to twelve quarters of reported revenue, constant-currency growth, EBIT margin, net income, diluted EPS, operating cash flow, free cash flow, deal wins and return on capital. |
| Adjustments | Restructuring, acquisitions, disposals, impairment, tax, foreign-exchange and other one-off items, with the source page and date. |
| Guidance | Original FY2027 ranges, subsequent updates, actual results and management’s stated reasons for variance. |
| Valuation | Dated NSE/BSE price, share count, market capitalization, net cash or debt, P/E, EV/EBIT and free-cash-flow yield with definitions. |
| Risks | Relevant annual-report disclosures, their possible financial effect and what would signal deterioration. |
| Personal fit | Objective, horizon, maximum allocation, diversification and loss tolerance. |
| Decision status | What is established, what is uncertain, what evidence would change your view, and the date for the next review. |
10. Common mistakes and how to correct them
Mistake: treating revenue growth as a buy signal
Correction: Pair growth with margins, cash generation, returns on capital and valuation. A stronger business can still be a poor purchase at an excessive price.
Best Value
Mistake: mixing reported and constant-currency numbers
Correction: Label the currency and comparison basis beside every figure. Use the company’s definitions before making a period-to-period comparison.
Mistake: annualizing one quarter without qualification
Correction: Keep sequential, year-over-year and last-twelve-month measures distinct. Investigate seasonality and one-off items before extrapolating.
Mistake: equating contract value with profit
Correction: Trace total contract value through backlog, recognized revenue, delivery cost, margin and cash collection.

Mistake: using an undated valuation
Correction: Record the exchange, price date, share-count basis and earnings period. Recalculate after every material filing or major price move.
Mistake: ignoring disclosures because a broker account is available
Correction: Treat regulated account access as a transaction requirement, not as an investment endorsement. Complete the suitability and valuation work first.
What a complete answer looks like
You have done the work when you can explain HCLTech’s revenue mix and customer exposure, reconcile its reported and constant-currency results, show a multi-period trend for profitability and cash, test FY2027 guidance against execution, and cite the annual report’s relevant risks and accounting notes. You should also have a dated valuation using consistent peer and historical comparisons, plus a position size that fits your objectives and ability to withstand loss.
The Q2 FY2027 figures provide a current operating snapshot, including reported revenue, margins, cash conversion, returns on capital and advanced-AI activity. They do not provide a current share valuation or establish that the shares are suitable for you. Obtain the latest HCLTech filings and dated NSE/BSE market data immediately before making any decision, and update the worksheet when those inputs change.
