The first question is not battery size or motor wattage. It is whether you need a true tandem e-trike, where both riders can pedal, or a passenger-seat trike, where the second person rides without pedaling. That choice changes the frame, controls, foot support, payload calculation, safety questions and legal classification.
Before paying, verify the exact model’s rider arrangement, total payload and rider/cargo limits, range assumptions, brakes, dimensions, transport method, written warranty, delivery and return terms, service options and legality where you will ride. Manufacturer range and safety specifications are seller claims unless an independent test is identified; none of the examples below has a shared independent test protocol.
1. Decide whether you need tandem pedaling or a passenger seat
Listings often use similar phrases—“electric tricycle for 2 people,” “two person electric tricycle,” “tandem electric trike” and “electric trike with passenger seat”—for two substantially different layouts.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTandem e-trike
A tandem is designed for two people to contribute to propulsion. Addmotor describes its M-380 as a tandem eTrike with independent front and rear pedaling. Its product page says both riders can pedal together, one can rest while the other pedals, or the trike can be ridden solo. This is useful when both riders are able and willing to pedal, but it also means you must understand how each rider’s crank, pedals, controls and seating position work.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Passenger-seat e-trike
A passenger model gives the second rider a seat, foot support and, where supplied, restraints, without requiring that person to pedal. Addmotor contrasts the M-380 with its Greattan L Passenger eTrike, which it says carries a rear passenger who does not need to pedal. Meet One describes Pair as a two-seat passenger model, and LLAMA describes CT12 as a passenger model.
The practical distinction is participation. As Addmotor puts it on the M-380 product page, “The main difference lies in how the two riders participate.” Do not infer a passenger-ready design merely from a long saddle or a high payload figure. Confirm that the listing shows the actual passenger seat, footrests, handholds or restraints, lighting and operating instructions for the person who will ride there.
Questions to answer before comparing models
- Will the second rider pedal on every trip, occasionally, or never?
- Can both riders mount and dismount safely with the trike’s step-through height and seat layout?
- Does the passenger have a stable foot platform and a way to hold on during starts, turns and stops?
- Can the vehicle be operated solo when the second seat is empty?
2. Calculate payload using the manufacturer’s breakdown
Add the weights of both riders, clothing, bags, groceries and any accessories, then compare that total with the exact model’s rated payload. A headline capacity is not enough: a maker may impose separate limits for riders and cargo.

Example: the M-380’s stated limits
Addmotor lists the M-380 at 550 pounds of total capacity, including up to 500 pounds for two riders and 50 pounds in the basket. Those figures are a model-specific manufacturer statement, not a minimum capacity that every two-person trike should meet. If two riders total 470 pounds, only 30 pounds remains within the stated rider allowance; the 50-pound basket limit is a separate part of the calculation.

What to request when the breakdown is missing
- Total permitted load, including riders and cargo.
- Maximum combined rider weight and any individual rider maximum.
- Separate front, rear-seat, basket or rack limits.
- Whether a second battery, child seat, rack or trailer counts against payload.
- Whether the rating changes on hills, rough surfaces or at the listed top speed.
Do not substitute the motor’s wattage for a payload rating. A larger motor does not establish that the frame, wheels, brakes or drivetrain are approved for a heavier load.
3. Treat range as a configuration- and conditions-dependent estimate
“Up to” range is a seller’s maximum claim, not a guarantee for two loaded riders on your route. Ask what battery configuration and test conditions produce the number, then plan a reserve for hills, headwinds, cold weather, stop-and-go riding, tire pressure, rider input and assist level.
Battery details to compare
- Voltage and amp-hour capacity for each supplied battery.
- Whether a second battery is included or optional.
- Where the batteries mount and whether both can be charged safely at your storage location.
- Whether the controller automatically switches batteries or requires a manual change.
- Replacement-battery availability, price and lead time.
- Charging time, charger specifications and storage instructions.
How the listed examples describe range
| Model | Battery and stated range | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Addmotor M-380 | 48V 20Ah battery; manufacturer states up to 65 miles with one battery or 130 miles with two. | Maximum figures from the manufacturer’s 2026 product page; the page does not establish a standardized independent test. |
| Meet One Pair | 20Ah main battery, with an optional backup battery up to 40Ah total; manufacturer states 40–100 miles. | Current product-page figures; ask which battery configuration, load, terrain and assist setting produce each end of the range. |
| LLAMA CT12 | Manufacturer advertises up to 70 miles with one battery or 140 miles with two. | Seller-stated maximums; the product page does not establish independent validation or a shared test protocol. |
Convert the claim into your own trip plan
- Measure the round-trip distance, including detours and the route back to a charger.
- Tell the seller the combined rider and cargo weight, typical assist level, hills, surface and expected temperatures.
- Ask for a realistic range estimate under those conditions, not just the maximum in the headline.
- Choose a battery arrangement that leaves a reserve rather than treating the advertised maximum as your usable distance.
Because the three examples use different configurations and do not cite one independent test method, their advertised mileages should not be ranked as a laboratory comparison.

Brake specifications in the examples
| Model | Listed brake arrangement | Other listed controls or safety features |
|---|---|---|
| Addmotor M-380 | Tektro mechanical disc brakes on each wheel. | 750W rear-drive motor; 20 mph listed speed. |
| Meet One Pair | Hydraulic disc brakes on all three wheels. | Speed differential, reverse mode and brake-activated rear lights are listed. |
| LLAMA CT12 | Hydraulic disc brakes. | Torque sensor and 6061 aluminum frame are listed; the page does not establish independent braking results. |
Questions that reveal practical differences
- Are brake pads, rotors, cables or hydraulic components standard sizes available from local shops?
- Does each brake lever activate a specific wheel, and is there a parking brake?
- Does motor assist cut off when either brake is applied?
- How does reverse mode work, what speed does it permit, and can it be disabled?
- What does “speed differential” mean on the exact Pair configuration, and how does it affect tight turns?
- Are rear lights powered from the main battery, and do they remain on when braking?
Ask for a manual or operating video for the exact model. A two-person trike has a larger turning envelope and more momentum than a single-rider cycle, so controls that are easy to understand before delivery matter.
5. Check rider fit, dimensions and the route from delivery to storage
Two people must fit the seats and foot areas without interfering with steering, pedaling or one another. Measure the route into your home, garage or shed before ordering, not after the carton arrives.
M-380 dimensions as a transport warning
Addmotor lists M-380 rider-height guidance of 5 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 4 inches, a length of 96 inches, a width of 38.5 inches and a vehicle weight of 147 pounds. The manufacturer says the rigid, non-folding model will not fit in a standard car trunk and suggests a pickup bed, cargo van or heavy-duty hitch rack. Verify the actual rack’s weight rating, usable width, hitch class and loading method before relying on it.
Measure these points for any model
- Door, gate, elevator and storage-clearance width, including mirrors and handlebars.
- Turning space at the narrowest corner.
- Step-through height and seat-height adjustment for both riders.
- Distance between the passenger seat, pedals, rear wheel and any basket.
- Lift or ramp requirements at your storage location.
- Vehicle or rack capacity, loading ramp length and tie-down points.
Ask whether the stated vehicle weight includes batteries, racks, fenders and passenger equipment. If the batteries are removable, confirm their individual weights and whether removal is required for transport.

6. Read the exact warranty, delivery and return terms
Save a copy of the product page, checkout details, warranty and assembly instructions for the exact model and seller. Terms can differ by model, region and seller channel.
Coverage and exclusions
Addmotor’s M-380 page describes two-year coverage for the frame, battery and motor. That statement does not automatically cover labor, shipping, wear parts, misuse or accessories; request the full written terms. LLAMA’s CT12 warranty page lists limitations and exclusions, including some damage and unauthorized repairs. Read the exclusion language before opening, modifying or taking the trike to a third-party repairer.
Delivery and assembly
Addmotor says the M-380 arrives 85% pre-assembled. Confirm which work remains: handlebar and seat installation, wheel or pedal fitting, brake adjustment, electrical connections and final torque checks. Ask whether a qualified shop may assemble it without voiding coverage.

Returns and support questions
- How many days do you have to report damage, defects or a change of mind?
- Can a fully assembled or ridden trike be returned?
- Who pays return freight, packaging and restocking charges?
- What photographs, videos, diagnostic steps or serial numbers are required for a claim?
- Where are parts stocked, and which service center handles your region?
- What happens if the carton arrives damaged or a battery is missing?
Do not assume a warranty is usable simply because its duration looks long. A 200-pound-plus vehicle can make return freight expensive, and a local service option may matter more than a headline coverage period.

7. Verify legal use in your location
The product pages reviewed do not establish that any model is legal on a particular road, trail or bicycle path. Classification and requirements vary by jurisdiction and may depend on motor output, assisted speed, width, number of seats and whether a passenger is carried.
Confirm these rules with the relevant transport authority
- Whether the exact model qualifies as an e-bike, electric tricycle, low-speed vehicle or another class.
- Where it may be ridden: roads, shoulders, multi-use paths, sidewalks or private property.
- Whether carrying a passenger is permitted for that class and location.
- Helmet, lighting, mirror, insurance, registration or licensing requirements.
- Maximum assisted speed and any equipment needed to remain within the class.
- Age, passenger-restraint or operator requirements.
Request the manufacturer’s certification and technical documentation for the exact model and configuration. A generic “e-bike” label is not proof of local compliance, and a model legal in one state, province or country may be restricted elsewhere.
8. Compare the real examples on the same axes
The table below keeps manufacturer claims separate from questions that remain for the buyer. It is not an independently tested ranking.

9. Use this pre-payment checklist
Keep the answers in writing—an email, specification sheet or saved checkout document—so the delivered vehicle can be checked against what you bought.
- Identify the layout: mark the listing as tandem or passenger-seat, and confirm whether solo riding is allowed.
- Confirm the occupants: ask for seat dimensions, footrest position, restraint or handhold details and rider-height guidance.
- Compute payload: add both riders and cargo, then apply the separate rider, seat, basket and rack limits.
- Document the battery: record voltage, amp-hours, number of batteries included, optional-battery price and charging requirements.
- Interrogate range: request an estimate for your load, route, terrain, weather and assist level, with a reserve.
- Inspect braking and controls: record which wheels have brakes, the brake type, motor cut-off behavior, reverse operation and lighting controls.
- Measure access: compare the assembled length, width, height and weight with every doorway, storage space, ramp, vehicle and rack.
- Clarify assembly: list the work you must perform and whether professional assembly affects the warranty.
- Save warranty terms: note coverage periods, exclusions, wear-part treatment, shipping responsibility and authorized-repair rules.
- Check delivery and returns: establish inspection deadlines, damage reporting, return eligibility, packaging requirements and freight costs.
- Plan service: locate a shop or seller-supported technician and confirm access to brake, tire, electrical and battery parts.
- Verify legality: send the exact model number and specifications to your local transport authority before ordering.
10. Red flags that justify stopping the purchase
- The page shows two seats but never says whether the rear rider pedals or has a proper foot platform.
- “Up to” range is displayed without battery capacity, configuration or test conditions.
- Payload is expressed only as a large total with no rider-versus-cargo breakdown.
- The seller cannot provide an assembled width, weight with batteries or a transport recommendation.
- Brake specifications omit which wheels are braked or whether replacement parts are available.
- Warranty language excludes unauthorized repairs but gives no authorized service route in your region.
- Return terms appear only after payment, or require the buyer to pay unknown oversized freight.
- The seller uses a generic e-bike label instead of documentation for the exact model and jurisdiction.
11. Inspect the trike when it arrives
Before discarding the carton, photograph the package, serial number and all components. Compare the delivered configuration with the saved order: seats, footrests, batteries, chargers, keys, lights, racks and manuals should all be present.
Complete assembly exactly as instructed, check fasteners and tire inflation, and test the brakes and controls at walking speed in a private, clear area. Confirm that both riders can mount, sit, hold on, place their feet and dismount without contacting pedals or wheels. Then perform short, low-speed turns and stops before carrying a passenger on public routes. If anything is damaged, missing, loose or inconsistent with the listing, stop riding and follow the seller’s documented damage-reporting process before modifying the vehicle.
12. The buying decision in one sentence
Choose a tandem only when both riders can use the independent pedals and controls; choose a passenger model when the second rider needs a dedicated seat and foot support. In either case, buy only after the exact model’s payload breakdown, battery and range assumptions, braking system, physical dimensions, transport plan, written support terms and local legal status are confirmed.
