Do not choose a foldable phone for audio by counting speakers or judging its unfolded screen. First decide whether you will use the built-in speakers, headphones, calls, recording, or a combination. Then compare clear voices, bass balance, loudness, distortion, stereo separation, speaker placement, and performance with the phone folded and open. The Galaxy Z Fold7 and Pixel 10 Pro Fold both advertise stereo speaker playback, but independent listening reports describe meaningful differences—and no single test settles which sounds better for every listener.

Define the audio you actually need

“Audio quality” can mean several different things on a foldable phone. A person who watches video without headphones needs convincing stereo playback and enough volume for a room. A commuter who always uses wireless earbuds may care more about Bluetooth behavior and codec support. Someone who takes calls in noisy places needs intelligible speech and effective noise suppression. A creator needs microphones that produce clean recordings.

These are separate purchase decisions. A phone can have enjoyable speakers but mediocre microphones, or excellent headphone connectivity but sound thin from its built-in drivers. Write down your main use before comparing models:

  • Speaker-first: You regularly watch video, listen to podcasts, or play music without headphones.
  • Headphone-first: Most listening happens through Bluetooth or USB-C accessories.
  • Call-first: Voice clarity, speakerphone behavior, and background-noise handling matter most.
  • Recording-first: You capture meetings, video, interviews, or voice notes.
  • Mixed use: You need acceptable performance in all four situations and should test each separately.

The large internal display on a foldable can make video more comfortable, but screen size says nothing about speaker tuning. Treat the display and audio systems as independent parts of the buying decision.

What a “stereo speaker” specification does—and does not—tell you

Stereo confirms configuration, not quality

Both the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Galaxy Z Fold7 are reported to use stereo speakers. That tells you that the phone has two speaker channels; it does not tell you how loud, full, balanced, clear, or distortion-free those channels sound. Two small drivers can produce a very different result from two larger, better-tuned drivers.

Do not infer audio quality from the number of openings, the phone’s thickness, or the size of its display. Look for listening tests and, ideally, audition the exact retail model.

Speaker position changes the experience

GSMArena reports that both Galaxy Z Fold7 speaker drivers are on the cover-screen half. That arrangement makes your grip important: a hand covering that edge can reduce volume or alter the tonal balance. It also means the apparent left-right image can change when you rotate or open the phone.

The available specifications do not establish the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s exact driver placement in a directly comparable way. Check where the openings are on the physical unit and repeat your test while holding it as you normally would.

What current comparisons say about Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Galaxy Z Fold7 speakers

The two phones have been evaluated using different methods, so the results should be treated as directional rather than as a universal ranking.

Question Pixel 10 Pro Fold Galaxy Z Fold7 How to interpret it
Speaker configuration Reported stereo speakers Reported stereo speakers Configuration alone does not predict perceived quality.
Relative loudness and high-volume behavior PhoneArena reports it plays slightly louder without distortion at higher volumes than the Z Fold7. PhoneArena places it slightly behind the Pixel in that comparison. A publication-specific comparison, not a guarantee for every room or listener.
Bass balance PhoneArena reports slightly more pronounced bass than the Z Fold7. GSMArena says bass is not especially pronounced; vocals and highs are well-defined. Preference matters: extra bass can sound fuller, while restrained bass can keep speech cleaner.
Measured loudness No directly comparable laboratory figure is established here. GSMArena measured −28.0 LUFS with Dolby Atmos enabled and −28.3 LUFS with the enhancer disabled. GSMArena says lower absolute LUFS is louder on its scale and calls the result “Good.” Its older loudspeaker results are not comparable to this test.
Sound character PhoneArena’s comparison favors the Pixel for loudness and bass. What Hi-Fi? criticizes the Z Fold7 for limited dynamism, separation, and textural richness. The publications used different listening approaches; do not treat these comments as a blinded head-to-head verdict.

The most defensible conclusion is conditional: the Pixel 10 Pro Fold has an advantage in the cited PhoneArena comparison for loudness, resistance to distortion near the top of the range, and bass presence. The Z Fold7 can still satisfy listeners who value clearly defined voices and highs, but its speaker presentation has been criticized as less dynamic and less textured. Your grip, room, content, and preferred tonal balance can outweigh small review differences.

Understand the Galaxy Z Fold7’s LUFS result

GSMArena reports a Galaxy Z Fold7 result of −28.0 LUFS with its Dolby Atmos tuning setting enabled. The same page reports −28.3 LUFS with the sound enhancer disabled and describes the loudness as “Good” for its scale. In this measurement convention, a lower absolute LUFS value represents louder output. The two settings are therefore close, and the difference should not be treated as a dramatic change in everyday listening.

LUFS is a measured loudness value, not a complete description of sound quality. It does not tell you whether a voice sounds natural, whether bass feels full, or whether treble becomes harsh. GSMArena also warns that its older loudspeaker results are not comparable with this test, so do not combine the number with historical phone rankings.

Use the figure as one model-specific laboratory reference. It is not a category-wide standard and does not prove that every Z Fold7 unit, region, software version, or listening position will sound identical.

How to audition a foldable phone in a shop or during a return period

A short, repeatable test is more useful than a loud demonstration track selected by a salesperson. Use the same clips and the same volume approach on every phone.

  1. Prepare three short clips. Choose a spoken-voice recording, a bass-rich passage with a steady beat, and a dense track containing several instruments. Familiar content makes differences easier to identify.
  2. Disable variables before comparing. Note the volume level and check sound-enhancement controls such as Dolby Atmos. If you change a setting on one phone, repeat the comparison with the same type of setting on the other.
  3. Match ordinary listening volume first. Listen at the level you would use for a podcast or television episode. A phone that sounds impressive only at maximum volume may be tiring for everyday use.
  4. Check speech intelligibility. Listen for consonants, sibilants, and whether a quiet voice remains understandable over background music. Speech clarity is often more important than maximum loudness.
  5. Check bass and fullness. On the bass-rich clip, listen for kick-drum impact and low notes. Distinguish genuine fullness from a boomy mid-bass emphasis that makes voices muddy.
  6. Raise the volume gradually. At high levels, listen for crackle, rough treble, pumping, or compression. Stop if the sound becomes painful; maximum-volume listening is not a durability test.
  7. Test stereo separation. Use a familiar track with instruments placed left and right. The image should remain coherent rather than collapsing into a single point or becoming unnaturally wide.
  8. Repeat folded and unfolded. Play the same clip with the phone closed, open, rotated, and held in your normal grip. Compare whether your fingers cover a speaker opening and whether the stereo image changes.
  9. Test practical distance. Move the phone to the distance you normally use on a desk or bedside table. A sound that seems loud in your hand may not fill the room once placed farther away.
  10. Make a quick call and recording. Call a test contact or use the voice-recorder app, then replay the sample. This is a separate check from speaker playback and should not be skipped if calls or recording matter to you.

Avoid judging from unmatched online sample recordings. Different microphones, browsers, headphones, compression, and playback levels can make a phone appear better or worse than it is in person.

Score the qualities that matter in real use

Voice intelligibility

For podcasts, navigation prompts, and calls, clear midrange detail is usually more valuable than deep bass. Listen for words that blur together and for excessive sharpness in “s” sounds. Test both a male and a female voice if possible, because a single speaker recording can hide problems in part of the vocal range.

Bass balance and fullness

Small phone speakers cannot reproduce the same low-end depth as dedicated speakers. The useful question is whether bass sounds balanced at normal volume. A restrained low end can preserve speech clarity; an overemphasized upper bass can make music seem fuller while masking detail.

Loudness and headroom

Enough volume depends on the room, distance, and background noise. Compare ordinary listening first, then check whether the phone retains clarity as you approach its upper range. Do not use loudness alone as a proxy for quality.

Distortion and harshness

Listen for rattling, brittle cymbals, or a voice that becomes nasal when the volume rises. Distortion can appear only on bass-heavy passages, so include one in your test. If a phone sounds clean at 70 percent but unpleasant at 100 percent, that may still be acceptable for your use if you rarely need maximum output.

Stereo separation

Foldables are often used in landscape orientation for video. Check whether the two channels remain distinct in that orientation and whether your hands block one side. A technically stereo phone can sound effectively mono when one driver is covered.

Folded versus unfolded behavior

Opening the phone changes how you hold it and where each driver sits relative to your ears. Test both states with the same material. If you mainly watch video on the large inner display, give the unfolded position more weight in your decision; if you listen while walking with the phone closed, prioritize the cover-screen grip.

Headphone-first buyers need a separate checklist

Built-in speakers are irrelevant if headphones handle nearly all of your listening. Verify the exact regional model’s wireless and wired behavior rather than assuming that two foldables offer identical support.

  • Bluetooth pairing: Confirm that the phone connects reliably to your headphones, car, and other accessories. Test reconnection after leaving and returning to range.
  • Codecs: Check which Bluetooth codecs the phone and your chosen headphones share. A codec supported by only one side will not be available in practice.
  • Latency: For gaming or video editing, check lip-sync and controller response with your actual accessories.
  • USB-C audio: Confirm whether your wired headphones work directly through USB-C or require a digital adapter. Compatibility and adapter inclusion can vary by market.
  • Battery behavior: If your headphones depend on the phone’s USB-C port for charging or wired listening, make sure your routine leaves a practical way to charge.

The available official material does not establish every codec, wired-audio path, or included-adapter detail for both comparison phones. Treat those items as checks to perform on the product page for your country, not as assumptions based on the model name.

Calls and recording require microphone-specific checks

Speaker playback tests do not measure microphone quality. For calls, ask whether the other person can understand you while traffic, fans, or conversation are present. Make one quiet-room call and one noisy-room call if a retailer or return period allows it. Listen for clipped words, pumping noise reduction, and changes when you switch between the inner and outer displays.

For recording, capture a short sample from arm’s length and from farther away. Replay it through headphones and inspect whether your voice is natural, background noise is controlled, and handling sounds overwhelm the recording. Google lists stereo recording among the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s media and audio features. That confirms a feature, not superior microphone quality relative to the Z Fold7.

If recording is central to your work, seek model-specific microphone evaluations or make your own sample before the return deadline. A speaker review cannot answer that question.

Check software sound modes without letting them decide for you

Sound-enhancement modes can alter tonal balance, spatial processing, and perceived loudness. The Galaxy Z Fold7’s GSMArena result differs slightly with Dolby Atmos enabled versus disabled, which illustrates why settings matter when comparing phones.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Record which enhancements are enabled on each device.
  • Compare both enabled and disabled states if you would realistically use either.
  • Use familiar speech as well as music; processing that adds excitement to music can reduce voice naturalness.
  • Check whether a mode applies only to speakers, only to headphones, or to both.
  • Retest after software updates if a major audio setting or operating-system version changes.

Do not choose a phone because an enhancement makes one demonstration track louder. The setting should improve the content you actually consume without introducing harshness or muddying speech.

Choose by listener type

Your priority What to emphasize How the cited comparisons help
Mostly phone speakers Voice clarity, balanced bass, useful volume, clean high-volume playback, and natural grip in both folded states. PhoneArena reports an edge for the Pixel in loudness, high-volume cleanliness, and bass presence; audition both because the difference is not universal.
Podcasts and spoken video Midrange intelligibility and freedom from harshness or muddy bass. GSMArena describes the Z Fold7’s vocals and highs as well-defined, while its bass is restrained.
Music without headphones Bass balance, stereo separation, dynamics, and texture at ordinary volume. What Hi-Fi? criticizes the Z Fold7’s dynamism, separation, and texture; PhoneArena favors the Pixel’s bass in its comparison.
Headphones nearly all the time Bluetooth compatibility, shared codecs, latency, USB-C audio, and adapter requirements. Speaker rankings matter little; verify exact regional specifications and accessory compatibility.
Frequent calls Voice intelligibility, speakerphone behavior, and background-noise suppression. The cited material does not provide a controlled microphone comparison, so perform a call test.
Recording audio Microphone tonality, noise handling, stereo behavior, and monitoring workflow. Pixel specifications list stereo recording, but that is not proof of better recordings.

Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them

  • Equating stereo with good sound: Stereo is a layout description. Listen for balance, detail, and distortion.
  • Judging only at maximum volume: A loud demo can hide fatigue and imbalance. Start at normal volume.
  • Ignoring hand position: Covering one opening can change the result, especially when both Z Fold7 drivers are on the cover-screen half.
  • Testing only one orientation: Folded, unfolded, portrait, and landscape positions can produce different results.
  • Mixing review measurements: The GSMArena LUFS test is not directly comparable with its older loudspeaker measurements, and different publications use different methods.
  • Assuming a speaker review answers headphone questions: Wireless codecs, USB-C audio, and adapter requirements need separate verification.
  • Treating a feature list as a performance verdict: Stereo recording, Dolby Atmos, or another named feature does not establish microphone or speaker superiority.
  • Buying for a different region without checking: Connectivity, accessories, software options, and availability can vary by market.

A practical decision rule

If you mainly use speakers, compare the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Galaxy Z Fold7 with the same speech, bass, and dense music clips at matched volume, then repeat the test folded and unfolded. The cited PhoneArena comparison gives the Pixel a modest advantage in loudness, bass presence, and resistance to distortion at high volume, while GSMArena reports the Z Fold7 as “Good” for measured loudness and clear in vocals and highs. What Hi-Fi?’s criticism of the Z Fold7’s dynamics, separation, and texture is another reason to audition rather than rely on the stereo label.

If headphones dominate your routine, make Bluetooth and USB-C compatibility the deciding checks. If calls or recording matter, perform microphone tests because the available speaker comparisons cannot establish a winner. Buy the phone whose behavior matches your own content, grip, room, and accessories—not the phone with the most impressive specification wording.
