If you own the Fyreslayers Saga Axeband Spearhead, the safest next purchase for the announced 2026 battletome is another unit of Hearthguard Berzerkers. They are already in your starter force, remain on the announced roster, and extend the elite-infantry direction signalled for the new book. Auric Hearthguard and Vulkyn Flameseekers offer different infantry collections, while a Magmadroth-mounted character creates a larger centerpiece army.
There is an important timing issue: Warhammer Community announced in October 2026 that several familiar Fyreslayer units will move to Warhammer Legends. Check the final battletome, the current model range and your event’s rules before spending money, especially if you play competitively.
What is already in the Saga Axeband Spearhead?
The official Saga Axeband faction pack lists a Battlesmith, five Hearthguard Berzerkers and four units of five Vulkite Berzerkers. In practical collection terms, you already have a substantial infantry core: 20 Vulkites, five Hearthguard and a support character. A second purchase should therefore answer a specific collection question rather than simply add more of the same models.

The October 2026 roster change you must understand
Warhammer Community’s October 2026 update for Battletome: Khazalite Holds says that Vulkite Berzerkers, Battlesmith, Auric Runemaster, Doomseeker, Grimwrath Berzerker, Magmic Battleforge and Magmic Invocations are moving to Warhammer Legends. The article says those units will come off sale and remain usable in competitive events for one year after the new book releases before moving to Legends.
The announcement also says the new roster shifts Fyreslayers toward a more elite force. It does not provide a release date for the book in the material available here, and a transition period does not mean every tournament, league or store will use identical legality rules. Treat the announcement as a buying warning, not as a promise that your existing Spearhead models are immediately unusable.
Do not assume that the legacy Saga Axeband roster and the announced Khazalite Holds roster are interchangeable. Verify the final battletome, the official range listing and the pack or tournament pack for the event you intend to attend. If an event publishes a Legends policy, follow that policy even if another event permits the models.

Compare the four expansion directions
| Purchase direction | Roster status in the announcement | What it changes in your collection | What is not established |
|---|---|---|---|
| Another Hearthguard Berzerkers unit | Listed on the announced Khazalite Holds roster; already present in Saga Axeband | Builds a larger elite-infantry collection with the models you already know | Current points, competitive performance, unit size and box contents |
| Auric Hearthguard | Listed on the announced roster | Adds a different infantry choice instead of repeating Vulkites | Current warscroll details and kit availability |
| Vulkyn Flameseekers | Listed on the announced roster | Diversifies the army beyond its existing Vulkite and Hearthguard mix | Battlefield role, rules efficiency, current price and box contents |
| Magmadroth-mounted character | Foot and mounted Auric Runefather, Runeson and Runesmiter variants are listed | Creates a large centerpiece direction and a visibly different army project | Which specific kit is currently available, final rules, price and build options |
This table is a collection-planning aid, not a ranking of battlefield power. The official material does not establish a current win rate, points value, sales price or competitive tier for any of these choices.
Best default purchase: more Hearthguard Berzerkers
Another unit of Hearthguard Berzerkers is the most defensible named recommendation when you want one purchase with the least rules uncertainty. You already own five, and the announced battletome roster retains Hearthguard Berzerkers while moving the army toward a more elite composition. A second unit lets you make elite infantry a deliberate theme instead of leaving your first five as an isolated group.
Why this fits the Spearhead
- It expands a unit already in your collection, so you can compare assembly, painting and basing choices directly.
- It follows the announced elite direction without requiring a completely different army concept.
- It does not depend on the Battlesmith or Vulkite Berzerkers remaining in the post-transition roster.
Checks before buying
Confirm the current unit size, the contents of the specific kit and the warscroll in the latest official rules. The available sources do not establish those details, and they may change with the new battletome. Do not buy a second unit solely because a points total from an April 2023 pitched-battle profile looks attractive; those historical profiles are not current points.
This recommendation is about roster continuity and collection coherence. It is not a claim that Hearthguard Berzerkers are automatically the strongest competitive option.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

Auric Hearthguard: a different infantry project
Auric Hearthguard appears on the announced Khazalite Holds roster and gives you an infantry direction that is not simply another block of Vulkites or Hearthguard. Choose it when you want the army to contain a visibly different unit type and you are comfortable waiting for the final warscroll and kit information before optimizing the list.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →When it makes sense
- You want variety in the display cabinet and on the tabletop.
- Your first priority is an infantry collection with several distinct units rather than a concentrated elite block.
- You are prepared to check the final book for unit size, weapon rules and battlefield requirements.
What to verify
The current announcement confirms roster status, but the material available here does not verify current warscroll details or kit availability. Check the official range listing and the final battletome before treating Auric Hearthguard as a particular damage, control or ranged-support solution. Avoid relying on an older edition’s role description when the army is undergoing a major roster change.
Vulkyn Flameseekers: diversify beyond the starter mix
Vulkyn Flameseekers are also listed in the announced battletome roster. They are a sensible candidate if your collection already feels too dependent on the Spearhead’s Vulkite-and-Hearthguard combination and you want a third infantry identity.
Reasons to choose them
- They broaden the visual and modelling variety of the army.
- They let you postpone committing to a second Hearthguard unit while still buying a unit named on the announced roster.
- They suit a collector who values a varied force more than reproducing the exact Spearhead balance.
Keep the evidence boundary clear
The announcement does not establish a battlefield role, damage profile, competitive performance, price or box contents for Vulkyn Flameseekers. Do not purchase them on an assumed function such as objective holding, screening or close-combat output until the current warscroll confirms it. Check whether the kit is actually available in your region and whether the final unit size fits the list format you play.
Magmadroth-mounted characters: build around a centerpiece
The announced roster includes foot and Magmadroth-mounted variants of the Auric Runefather, Auric Runeson and Auric Runesmiter. A mounted character is the right direction when your goal is a centerpiece model and a collection that looks substantially larger than the Spearhead, rather than simply adding another infantry box.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Plan the project before selecting a model
- Check the current official Fyreslayers range to see which mounted kits are available.
- Read the final battletome entry for the Runefather, Runeson and Runesmiter variants before choosing a role.
- Confirm the model’s base size, assembly options and event restrictions.
- Decide whether the rest of your army will support a centerpiece project or remain primarily infantry.
The available announcement confirms that the mounted variants exist on the planned roster; it does not identify one specific model as the best purchase. Do not infer current points, durability or competitive value from the model’s size. Gotrek Gurnisson receives an honourable mention in the announcement, but he is not technically a Fyreslayer, so he is a separate collection decision rather than a direct replacement for a faction centerpiece.
A practical purchase sequence
If you want a simple order of operations, use the following sequence. It prevents you from buying models that may not fit your intended rules environment.
- Inventory the Spearhead. Record your Battlesmith, five Hearthguard Berzerkers and four five-model Vulkite units, plus the exact kits and weapon options you built.
- Choose your collection direction. Select elite infantry, mixed infantry or a Magmadroth centerpiece before comparing individual kits.
- Check the October 2026 transition. Mark Vulkites and the other units named for Legends, and identify whether your preferred event permits them during the one-year transition and afterward.
- Confirm the current roster. Use the final battletome and official range listing, not a historical points document or an old retailer description.
- Buy one test unit first. Assemble and paint one new unit before ordering multiples. This reveals whether you like the kit, basing scheme and painting workload.
- Recheck legality before expanding. Event packs can differ, and the final book or range may not match an announcement exactly.
Competitive-play and availability checklist
- Event policy: Ask the organizer whether Legends units are legal now, during the announced one-year period and after that period.
- Edition: Confirm that the warscroll and points document match the edition used by the event.
- Roster: Distinguish the old Saga Axeband faction pack from the announced Khazalite Holds roster.
- Kit status: Verify that the unit is still sold and that the box contains the models and options you need.
- Unit size: Check the current minimum and maximum models before buying a single box or multiple boxes.
- Budget: No current prices or recurring costs are established in the cited official material, so use a live regional listing rather than an old estimate.
- Rules timing: The battletome release date and final transition details must be checked again when the book and range are available.
These checks matter more than a small price difference. A unit that cannot be used in your chosen event, or whose current box does not match the final unit size, is an expensive detour even if it is attractive on the shelf.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What not to use as a buying signal
Do not use April 2023 pitched-battle profiles as current points. Do not treat a 2024 faction-focus article as a current rules document. Do not assume an old Vulkite-heavy list remains the intended competitive template after the October 2026 roster announcement. Finally, do not rely on unsourced sales figures, win rates or internet tier lists when the official sources provide none.

The official merchandise store lists Fyreslayers shirts, mugs and notebooks, but those are fandom items rather than army-expansion purchases. If your objective is to field or paint a larger force, spend the expansion budget on a verified miniature kit, tools or paints instead.

The playstyle context behind the new direction
The 2024 Warhammer Community faction focus attributes the following statement to “John” in its “The Word from the Studio” section:
“The key playstyle of the Fyreslayers has been preserved in the new edition – doughty duardin who hurl themselves across the battlefield, blazing with power and drinking deep of their god’s divinity at the right moment to carry them to a confident victory.”
That sentence describes the intended character of the faction, not a guarantee about the performance of any newly announced unit. Use it to choose the collection you want to own: a force that still looks and feels like Fyreslayers while moving toward the elite emphasis described in October 2026.

Bottom-line decision
Buy another Hearthguard Berzerkers unit if you want the clearest, lowest-risk expansion supported by the announced roster. Pick Auric Hearthguard or Vulkyn Flameseekers if collection variety matters more than repeating the Spearhead’s elite unit. Choose a Magmadroth-mounted Auric character only after confirming the current kit and final rules, because it commits you to a centerpiece army project.
Whichever route you take, wait to finalize a competitive shopping list until the Khazalite Holds battletome, official range and your event’s legality policy are confirmed. The October 2026 announcement is significant, but it is not the final substitute for those documents.
