THX Certification is a tested-performance designation, not a synonym for surround processing. THX says certified products are evaluated against its performance requirements through extensive testing and compliance checks. THX Spatial Audio is a separate technology, and a soundbar advertised with that feature is not automatically THX Certified. The Razer Leviathan V2 illustrates the distinction: official materials describe it as featuring THX Spatial Audio, while the reviewed documentation does not establish that the soundbar carries the THX Certified mark.
What the THX Certified mark actually tells you
THX presents certification as a program for evaluating audio and visual fidelity against defined performance requirements. Its certification overview says the mark indicates that a listening or viewing experience has passed critical industry standards, and describes engineers conducting “hundreds of tests.” The statement is THX’s explanation of its own program; it is not an independent comparison showing that every certified soundbar sounds better than every non-certified model.
THX’s program description says products must meet strict performance tolerances and undergo qualitative and functionality tests. The process can include consultation during development, testing, tuning settings built into the product, retail auditing and certification after the requirements are met. In practical terms, the logo is evidence that a particular product or implementation was assessed against THX’s criteria, rather than merely a claim that the manufacturer likes the sound.
Read the mark as a quality-control signal with a defined scope. It can make a product’s stated performance requirements easier to evaluate, but it cannot predict your preferred tonal balance, room acoustics, game mix, listening volume or whether you prefer virtual height and surround effects.

Certification, Spatial Audio and “Tuned by THX” are different labels
Product pages often place several THX terms close together. They describe different things, so check the exact wording instead of treating “THX” as one all-purpose feature.

THX explicitly separates its certification program from “Tuned by THX.” Spatial Audio belongs to yet another category: a feature or processing technology. A listing can accurately use one of these labels without qualifying for either of the others.

Requirements and tolerances
THX sets performance requirements and tolerances for the relevant product category. The exact criteria can differ by program and device type, so a general certification statement should not be turned into a soundbar-specific measurement that the source does not publish.

Laboratory and functional evaluation
According to THX, engineers perform extensive tests and qualitative and functionality checks. Those checks are intended to determine whether the product meets the program’s requirements, not to rank it against every competing soundbar under identical listening conditions.
Tuning and implementation
THX describes consultation and tuning as part of its process. Settings may be built into a product so that the certified implementation can deliver the behavior evaluated during testing. This is different from a manufacturer simply adding a THX-branded playback mode after the fact.
Auditing and award
THX also describes retail auditing and certification once standards are met. Look for the certification designation attached to the exact model or configuration you are considering. A company’s general partnership with THX, or another product in its range carrying a mark, does not automatically transfer certification to every soundbar.

What THX Spatial Audio means on a gaming soundbar
Spatial audio is processing designed to make sounds appear to come from different positions around the listener. In a game, that can mean a wider or more directional presentation than the physical speaker layout alone would produce. The result depends on the signal, the software implementation, speaker placement, room reflections and your own hearing.
Calling a soundbar “THX Spatial Audio” therefore tells you that the manufacturer is using that THX technology or feature in the stated configuration. It does not tell you that THX tested the complete product to certification requirements. To understand what you receive, check the platform, required software and connection path alongside the label.
Spatial processing can also be optional. A soundbar may play ordinary stereo or multichannel content without the THX mode, while the THX effect is enabled only in supported software. If you switch between modes, differences in loudness or equalization can influence your impression, so compare at matched volume.

What the official descriptions support
THX’s Razer page describes the Leviathan V2 as the first soundbar to feature THX Spatial Audio and identifies the feature as operating on Windows 10 64-bit through Razer Synapse. Razer’s product page describes the device as a multi-driver PC gaming soundbar and subwoofer featuring THX Spatial Audio. Razer also lists Bluetooth 5.2 among its specifications.

Those statements support describing the Leviathan V2 as a soundbar-and-subwoofer system with THX Spatial Audio. They do not support calling the model THX Certified. The reviewed official pages and guide do not establish that the Leviathan V2 itself has received THX Certification.
Platform and software implications
The official guide identifies THX Spatial Audio on this model as PC-based through Razer Synapse. That means the feature should be treated as a software-dependent PC function rather than an assumption that every input, console or mobile connection receives the same processing. Check the current Synapse release and operating-system compatibility before buying or planning a setup; software support can change independently of the soundbar hardware.

How to check a gaming soundbar listing before you buy
- Find the exact wording. Look for “THX Certified,” “THX Spatial Audio” or “Tuned by THX.” Do not infer one from another.
- Match the designation to the exact model. Confirm that the model number and configuration in the listing are the ones covered by the claim. A family-level partnership page is not proof for every device.
- Check the platform. Determine whether the feature works on Windows, a console, a television input, Bluetooth or only through a companion application. For the Leviathan V2, the guide identifies Spatial Audio as PC-based via Razer Synapse.
- Check software and operating-system requirements. Confirm the current version and compatibility of the required application before relying on the feature. An older statement such as Windows 10 64-bit may not answer whether a newer operating system is supported today.
- Check the physical system. Record whether the package includes a separate subwoofer, how many drivers are stated, and which connections are available. A certification label cannot replace these practical specifications.
- Separate tested performance from personal preference. Certification can reduce uncertainty about meeting a standard, but listen for the tonal balance, bass response, dialogue clarity and spatial effect you actually want.
What certification does—and does not—guarantee
What it can provide
- A defined performance target rather than an undefined marketing adjective.
- Testing and compliance checks conducted under the certification program described by THX.
- A way to distinguish products that have completed a formal program from products that merely mention THX technology.
What it cannot provide
- A promise that the sound will match your taste or work equally well in every room.
- A guarantee that a soundbar is the best choice for every game, film, music genre or listening distance.
- Proof that a THX Spatial Audio feature is present on every input or platform.
- A substitute for checking the speaker layout, subwoofer, connections, software and operating-system support.
THX’s overview says the mark ensures that the viewing and listening experience has passed critical industry standards. That is a statement about the certification program’s threshold, not a claim of universal superiority or a guarantee of an individual listener’s preference.

Common buying and setup mistakes
Assuming every THX logo means certification
A product page may use the THX name for a technology, tuning relationship or certified status. Read the noun that follows it. “Featuring THX Spatial Audio” and “THX Certified” make materially different claims.
Ignoring the software path
If the spatial mode is delivered through a desktop application, the application becomes part of the feature’s requirements. A soundbar connected to a different source may still produce audio, but not necessarily the same processing.
Buying by label alone
Physical configuration and placement remain important. A soundbar with a separate subwoofer behaves differently from a single bar, and Bluetooth, USB or other inputs may have different feature support. Compare those details before treating certification as the deciding factor.
Using outdated compatibility information
Documentation can identify a supported operating system at the time it was written without promising support for every later release. Check the manufacturer’s current software notes and guide before purchase, especially when the feature depends on Synapse.
A practical decision framework
Choose a certified model when you value a documented evaluation program and the model’s connection, speaker layout and software fit your system. Choose a model advertised with Spatial Audio when positional processing is your priority and the required platform is supported. Treat “Tuned by THX” as evidence of an engineering-tuning relationship, not as a certification result.
For any candidate, write down four facts before deciding: the exact THX label, the input and operating-system restrictions, the physical speaker and subwoofer configuration, and the return or audition option available to you. This prevents a familiar logo from hiding a compatibility problem or a sound signature you do not enjoy.
The bottom line for gaming soundbars
THX Certification means a product has been evaluated against THX performance requirements and awarded the mark after the program’s testing and compliance process. THX Spatial Audio is a separate spatial-processing technology, while “Tuned by THX” describes tuning and calibration. The Razer Leviathan V2 is documented as a PC gaming soundbar and subwoofer featuring THX Spatial Audio, with the feature delivered through Razer Synapse; the available official material does not establish that the soundbar is THX Certified. Use the label as one piece of evidence, then verify platform support and the hardware details that determine whether it suits your setup.
