For people who already own a Snapdragon phone or PC, the Qualcomm–Arm litigation does not currently show any loss of updates, warranty coverage, repairs, or basic device operation. The dispute could affect how Qualcomm licenses technology, receives engineering tools, and develops future chips, but the evidence available on October 13, 2026 does not establish a device-support change. Two different proceedings are being discussed: Arm’s case over Nuvia’s license, which produced a 2025 judgment favoring Qualcomm and Nuvia and is now on appeal, and Qualcomm’s separate contract case against Arm, in which a jury reportedly did not reach a verdict after an October 2026 trial.
The short answer for Snapdragon owners
A dispute between a chip designer and the company whose instruction-set technology it uses is not the same as a handset maker canceling support. Phone and PC updates, warranty service, and repair programs are normally commitments made by the device manufacturer or seller. Nothing in the court outcomes and company filings reviewed for this article shows that a named Snapdragon device has lost those commitments.
There is still legal and commercial uncertainty. Qualcomm says Arm failed to provide certain contractual deliverables and license offers on commercially reasonable terms. Arm disputes Qualcomm’s position. The latest report located on the 2026 trial says the jury did not reach a verdict, and the sources do not establish what procedural step comes next. That uncertainty may influence future chip negotiations and product economics, but it is not evidence that an existing device will stop receiving software.

Why there are two Qualcomm–Arm cases
The headlines can make this look like one continuous lawsuit. It is not. The cases involve different parties’ claims, different contractual questions, and different stages.

Arm’s Nuvia license case
Arm sued Qualcomm and Nuvia in Delaware in August 2022. Arm alleged that Nuvia’s Arm Architecture License Agreement (ALA) was terminated after Nuvia assigned it to Qualcomm without Arm’s consent. Arm asked the court to stop use of technology covered by the disputed license. Those points were Arm’s allegations, not findings that Qualcomm had already violated the law.
At trial in December 2024, the jury found that Qualcomm had not breached the Nuvia ALA. It also found that Qualcomm CPUs, including designs acquired through the Nuvia transaction, were licensed under Qualcomm’s own ALA. The jury did not reach a verdict on whether Nuvia itself breached its ALA. On September 30, 2025, the court entered judgment for Qualcomm and Nuvia and dismissed Arm’s remaining claims. Arm appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, so that proceeding is not necessarily finished even though the trial judgment favored Qualcomm and Nuvia.
Qualcomm’s general counsel and corporate secretary, Ann Chaplin, described the result in a September 30, 2025 company statement: “With the Court’s decision today, Qualcomm and its subsidiary Nuvia have achieved a full victory.” That is Qualcomm’s characterization of the result, not a quotation from the judge.
Qualcomm’s separate contract case against Arm
Qualcomm filed a different case against Arm in April 2024. In a June 2026 filing, Qualcomm said Arm had failed to provide contractual deliverables and license offers on commercially reasonable terms. Arm’s June 2026 filing described the same separate action but said it disagreed with Qualcomm’s assertions.

The trial was scheduled to begin on October 5, 2026. Reuters reported allegations that Arm withheld chip-testing tools and that the handling of a 2024 termination notice harmed Qualcomm’s proposed business with Meta. Qualcomm sought, among other relief, to stop royalty payments for up to five years. The alleged conduct, the requested remedy, and the legal theories remain contested. A report dated October 12 said the jury did not reach a verdict. The sources available here do not establish whether the court will order a retrial, schedule another proceeding, or resolve the case in another way.
Qualcomm’s 2026 filing also said Arm withdrew its 2024 breach notice in January 2025 while reserving its rights. That withdrawal does not decide the separate contract litigation.
How Arm licenses relate to Snapdragon chips
Arm’s filings distinguish between two broad kinds of agreement:
- Architecture License Agreement (ALA): allows a licensee to develop customized CPU designs that comply with the Arm instruction-set architecture.
- Technology License Agreement (TLA): licenses a particular CPU or other technology design supplied by Arm.
The 2025 Nuvia judgment found that the relevant acquired CPU designs were licensed under Qualcomm’s own ALA. That finding is important to the first case, but it should not be treated as a verdict on every contractual issue raised in Qualcomm’s later action against Arm.

What the legal record does—and does not—say about support
Software updates
The reviewed filings and reports do not identify a Snapdragon phone or PC whose update schedule has been canceled because of the dispute. They also do not show an instruction from Arm or Qualcomm requiring manufacturers to withdraw updates. An operating-system update is distributed under the device maker’s support program; the existence of a licensing lawsuit does not, by itself, rewrite that program.
If an OEM has published a number of years of security or operating-system support for a model, that commitment remains the relevant evidence for the owner unless the OEM issues a revised notice. The litigation could affect future component planning, but no source reviewed here documents a current change to a model-specific schedule.
Warranty service
Warranty terms are normally set by the device manufacturer, retailer, or carrier. The cases concern licensing contracts, technology deliverables, royalties, and business conduct between Qualcomm and Arm. They do not establish that a manufacturer has voided warranties for Snapdragon devices.
Repairs and replacement parts
There is likewise no evidence in the reviewed material that authorized repair channels have stopped accepting Snapdragon phones or PCs. Repair availability can vary by country, model age, and local parts policy, but those variables are separate from the court proceedings described here.

Whether a device will keep working
Nothing in the current record supports saying that Snapdragon hardware will suddenly stop booting or connecting to networks. A licensing dispute can create future business risk, but it is not a remote shutdown mechanism for products already sold to consumers.

What could change in the future
The evidence supports several possible business consequences, but each is different from an immediate support cutoff.
Future chip-development negotiations
If the contract case produces a later ruling or settlement, Qualcomm and Arm could renegotiate access to tools, designs, royalties, or other deliverables. Those terms might influence the cost, timing, or design of future Snapdragon generations. The sources do not establish which products, if any, would be affected or when.

Engineering-tool access and licensing terms matter during chip development. A prolonged dispute could add planning risk for products that have not yet been designed or released. That is a forward-looking possibility, not a documented delay to a current phone or PC.

Royalty and pricing pressure
Qualcomm’s requested remedy included stopping royalty payments for up to five years, but that request is disputed and has not been established as an outcome. Even if a later judgment changes the parties’ payments, consumers would still need a product-specific notice before assuming that an existing device’s support terms changed.
Appeals and further rulings
Arm’s appeal of the 2025 Nuvia judgment and the unresolved posture of the 2026 contract case mean the legal picture can change. A later order, settlement, or appellate decision could clarify obligations. Until such an event is documented, broad claims about all Snapdragon products go beyond the evidence.

- Open the manufacturer’s support page or settings panel. Look for the model’s update policy, security-update bulletin, warranty terms, and authorized-repair information.
- Check for a dated product notice. A real change should identify the model, affected region, effective date, and the service being changed.
- Compare the notice with your purchase documents. Keep the original warranty and the manufacturer’s published support promise. A generic article about Qualcomm and Arm is not a replacement for those terms.
- Ask the OEM or carrier directly if the information conflicts. Request a written answer that names your model. Do not infer a cancellation from a delayed monthly update unless the manufacturer confirms the reason.
If a company announces a support change, evaluate that announcement separately from the court cases. The decisive evidence would be an OEM bulletin, a formal court order that affects the relevant license, or another primary notice tied to the product.
How to read future headlines responsibly
- “Arm won” or “Qualcomm won” may refer to only one proceeding. Check whether the report means the 2025 Nuvia judgment, Arm’s appeal, or the separate 2026 contract case.
- “License dispute” does not automatically mean “license terminated.” The 2025 judgment found the relevant CPUs licensed under Qualcomm’s ALA, while other contractual questions remain disputed.
- An allegation is not a finding. Claims about withheld testing tools, the 2024 notice, or royalty remedies come from party filings and reporting on contested arguments.
- A jury without a verdict is not a judgment for either side. The October 12 report describes an unresolved trial outcome; it does not establish that Qualcomm or Arm prevailed on those claims.
- Look for model-specific evidence. A phone or PC support change should be documented by the company responsible for that product.
What Snapdragon owners should take away
As of October 13, 2026, the responsible conclusion is narrow: the litigation creates uncertainty about Qualcomm’s future licensing and business relationship with Arm, but it has not been shown to remove support from current Snapdragon devices. The 2025 Nuvia judgment favored Qualcomm and Nuvia and is under appeal. Qualcomm’s separate 2026 contract trial reportedly ended without a jury verdict. Neither fact, standing alone, changes an OEM’s published update, warranty, or repair policy.
Continue using the support schedule supplied for your exact model and region. Revisit the position only when the manufacturer or a formal court filing documents a product-specific change.
