The Nocs Provisions Portal AFN7 is a 140g screen-free adventure camera designed to frame and capture views through compatible Nocs binoculars or monoculars. It records 16MP photos and 4K UHD video at 30fps, and its IP56 rating covers dust, rain and spray—not submersion. Its unusual optic pairing is useful for distant wildlife or landscape views, but the fixed-focus camera is not a conventional zoom compact or an underwater camera.
What is the Portal AFN7?
Nocs describes the AFN7 as a compact camera with physical controls, a digital viewfinder and no rear playback screen. Its small OLED is for menu navigation; the digital viewfinder is used to frame shots. That arrangement also lets the camera show the view through attached optics, a use case a conventional optical viewfinder would not provide. Nocs’ product page lists the camera at 140g (4.9oz), with a 1/3.06-inch CMOS sensor, 16MP stills and 4K UHD video at 30fps.
Can you take photos through binoculars or a monocular?
Yes, when using Nocs binoculars or a Nocs monocular. The included NocDoc alignment tool helps position the camera with the optic, and the digital viewfinder supports framing through that setup. Nocs says, “Portal AFN7 works with all Nocs binoculars and monoculars, so your optics become a long lens for your camera.” That is the manufacturer’s compatibility claim; it does not establish compatibility with other brands. This is the AFN7’s defining use: it lets you record a distant scene seen through compatible optics. Without binoculars or a monocular attached, the camera’s own lens is specified as 22.5mm equivalent with up to 8x digital zoom. Digital zoom crops or enlarges the image; it is not an optical zoom lens. The fixed-focus range is 1m to infinity, so it is not specified for close-focus macro work.

Is the Portal AFN7 waterproof?
No. Nocs lists IP56 protection against dust, rain and spray, and says not to submerge the camera. Treat it as weather-resistant for outdoor conditions within that boundary, not as a waterproof or underwater camera. TechRadar’s October 2, 2026 launch coverage also describes its IP56 weather sealing.
How do photos and videos transfer to a phone?
Nocs says files transfer over USB-C without an app or Wi-Fi. According to the manufacturer’s FAQ, a phone with a USB-C port can connect directly; an older iPhone with a Lightning port cannot connect directly. You can also connect the camera to a computer over USB-C. Check device compatibility and any required adapter before relying on a phone-only workflow. How many photos fit, and how long does the battery last?
The camera includes a 4GB MicroSD card and supports expansion up to 128GB. Nocs estimates up to about 2,250 photos or 180 minutes of continuous 4K recording per charge. Those are manufacturer estimates, not independently measured results; actual counts and recording time can vary with use. The rechargeable 1100mAh lithium-ion battery is sealed and non-removable. Nocs lists the capacity and battery specifications.

- A good fit: Hikers and wildlife observers who want a lightweight camera without a rear playback screen, especially if they already use Nocs binoculars or a monocular and want to record the view through them.
- Look elsewhere if: You need instant rear-screen playback, interchangeable lenses, an optical zoom lens, underwater use, a removable battery or close-focus macro photography. The AFN7’s listed fixed-focus range begins at 1m.
Nocs announced the Portal AFN7 on October 1, 2026 as the first camera in its Portal series. SGB Media’s launch announcement provides that context. TechRadar reported a launch price of $179.95 on October 2, 2026; prices and availability can change, so check the seller’s current listing rather than treating that launch figure as a current price. REI has a product page for the AFN7, but a product page alone does not confirm current inventory.
