The immurok IK-1 is a standalone Bluetooth fingerprint key for selected local computer sign-in and authorization tasks—not a replacement for Apple Touch ID, Windows Hello hardware, or a FIDO security key for website logins. It is aimed at computers without a built-in fingerprint reader. The manufacturer lists it for preorder at US$69, with shipment expected in December 2026; those are current product-page terms, not evidence of established retail shipping. No independent hands-on performance or biometric-accuracy testing was found, so the capabilities and security details below are manufacturer or project claims.
What the immurok IK-1 does
The IK-1 is a compact capacitive fingerprint device that pairs with a computer over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Its stated purpose is to authorize selected actions on that computer, including screen unlock, administrator or sudo prompts, SSH and Git signing, unlocking selected password managers, and accessing TOTP codes. Which functions work depends on the operating system and software integration; the feature list is not independent confirmation that every workflow works in every configuration.
It is a separate product and security model, not an Apple Touch ID sensor or a universal biometric reader for every computer login. Project creator Super Dog put the distinction plainly in the Kickstarter FAQ: “No, and we won’t pretend it is.” The product is for local-machine authentication, not website authentication using FIDO or passkeys.

The manufacturer’s compatibility listing specifies macOS 13 or later on Apple Silicon and Intel, Windows 10 or 11 on x64 and Arm64, and selected Linux distributions. For Linux, it names Debian 12 or later, Ubuntu 24.04 or later, Fedora 43 or later, and Arch, with GNOME or KDE specified. The download page offers a universal Mac build, separate Windows x64 and Arm64 installers, and Linux builds or releases. Check the current compatibility and download pages before ordering, particularly if your Linux distribution or desktop environment is not listed.

The project creator describes the distinction this way in the FAQ: “Different layer. YubiKeys and passkeys prove who you are to websites (FIDO). immurok removes password friction on the machine in front of you: screen unlock, sudo, SSH signing.” That is the creator’s explanation, not a certification or standards-body assessment. If your goal is to log in to websites with a hardware credential, the IK-1 is not the right kind of device.
Setup and day-to-day operation
The published setup instructions use two pairing steps: first pair the key in the computer’s Bluetooth settings, then establish a second encrypted pairing in the companion app and confirm it with the device button. Fingerprint enrollment involves touching the sensor repeatedly at different angles. The manufacturer says the sensor supports up to five enrolled fingerprints.

The device is intended to be wireless during use. Its USB-C port charges it but does not transmit data, so it cannot be used as a wired fallback if Bluetooth pairing or the companion software is unavailable. The product page says the box includes the IK-1 and a user manual.

Privacy and security claims
According to the manufacturer, fingerprint templates stay on the key and are matched there. The computer receives an HMAC-signed “match succeeded” result rather than the fingerprint template. The manufacturer also describes ECDH P-256 pairing, signed firmware updates, and a tamper response that wipes the paired device if the case is opened. It says the product has no account, server, or telemetry.
These details describe the manufacturer’s security design; they should not be read as independently audited findings. The available material does not establish how reliably the sensor recognizes fingerprints in everyday use, how the complete system performs under attack, or whether the tamper response has been independently verified. Anyone evaluating it for a sensitive work environment should seek security documentation and organizational approval rather than treating product claims as an audit.

What “open source” means here
The project repository lists companion apps under Apache 2.0, while firmware and other components are source-available under Business Source License 1.1 (BSL 1.1). The About page says firmware and hardware designs convert to Apache 2.0 in 2030. That distinction matters: the product is not accurately described as fully open source under one license today.
Price, preorder timing, and terms
The official product page lists a US$69 preorder and expected shipment in December 2026. Shipping is calculated at checkout, and the recipient may have to pay import duties or taxes. The page lists cancellation for a full refund before shipment, a seven-day remedy for a device arriving damaged or faulty, no change-of-mind returns, and a one-year limited warranty against defects. These terms and the shipment estimate can change; confirm them on the product page for your destination before placing an order.

The manufacturer identifies Nervina Next Pte. Ltd. as the product company, says it designs the device in Singapore, and says it is built in China. Its About page reports that the campaign closed September 22, 2026, with 4,634 backers and S$480,299 pledged, while the Kickstarter FAQ displays 4,665 backers and S$483,756. Those published totals conflict, so neither should be treated here as an uncontested final campaign figure. The product page’s December 2026 shipment estimate is the current stated expectation; the Kickstarter FAQ also contains an older November estimate.
