Short answer: As of 14 October 2026, no authoritative maintainer page, repository, or release note verifies a maintained Final Fantasy VII Remake co-op mod with full-campaign coverage, synchronized saves, or PC-to-PlayStation cross-play. Community videos and discussions show experimentation, but they do not establish those features as reliable. Treat any listing that promises them as unverified until its maintainer publishes a feature specification and supported-build list.

What is actually confirmed

The retail product is FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE. Square Enix’s official product information identifies the PC release and includes EPISODE INTERmission, a separate adventure set in the world of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE. That page describes the single-player game; it does not document an official co-op mode.

There is a substantial Final Fantasy VII Remake mod ecosystem covering gameplay changes, utilities, visual modifications and saved-game files. An index of those projects does not identify an authoritative co-op project with a published feature matrix. That distinction matters: a mod category or a video tagged “co-op” is not the same as a maintained release that defines networking, progression and recovery behavior.

Question Evidence available by 14 October 2026 Practical conclusion
Can two players complete every chapter together? No maintainer specification or release note confirms all-chapter support. Full-campaign co-op is unverified.
Are campaign saves shared? No authoritative documentation defines host, synchronized or per-player saves. Assume saves are not safely synchronized.
Can a PC player join PlayStation friends? No authoritative source confirms console networking or cross-platform matchmaking. Cross-platform play is unverified and should not be promised.
What technical mod loading is documented? FFVIIHook can unlock the developer console and load loose Unreal Engine 4 INI files on Windows PC. There is documented PC mod infrastructure, but it is not proof of co-op.

Does the mod support the whole campaign?

Why a chapter-one playthrough is not campaign support

A fan-made Reddit post shows a co-op playthrough of chapter 1. A Steam discussion also contains an anecdotal reference to playing a co-op mod with a friend. Both are useful signs of community interest and experimentation. Neither establishes that the same setup works through every chapter, cutscene, combat transition, side quest, boss encounter or the EPISODE INTERmission content.

FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE
  • Immerse yourself in the city of Midgar like never before, with improved textures, lighting, and background environments
  • Players can switch between two game modes: "Graphics Mode" prioritizes 4K high-resolution graphics; "Performance Mode" prioritizes smooth action at 60 frames per second
  • Capture and share your memorable moments from the game with a fully customizable “Photo Mode”
  • Players can enjoy immersive battles by using the DualSense PlayStation 5 controller with its haptic feedback integration
  • Play the brand-new episode featuring Yuffie and experience new combat and gameplay additions

A short demonstration can avoid the hardest synchronization cases. Early missions may have fewer branching objectives, fewer scripted transitions and less demanding save-state handling than later chapters. Without a maintainer’s chapter list and a versioned release, the most accurate description is “experimental co-op activity,” not “a complete co-op campaign.”

Progression models a real release would need to define

Model What happens after a session Questions to verify
Host-only progression The host’s campaign advances; the joining player’s profile may receive no equivalent progress. Can the guest keep rewards, unlocks or chapter completion? Can the guest replay the session independently?
Synchronized progression The session writes a common state for both participants. Which player owns the file, how are conflicting states resolved, and what happens if one player disconnects?
Per-player progression Each player’s campaign records its own results while participating. Are flags, inventory, quests and cutscene outcomes merged or stored separately?
Session-only co-op Players cooperate while connected, but the session does not promise persistent shared advancement. Which rewards, if any, survive a restart?

No documented Final Fantasy VII Remake co-op release has been shown to select one of these models. If a future project claims “full campaign,” look for an explicit chapter coverage list rather than relying on a trailer or a single completed mission.

Are saves shared between players?

No synchronized-save behavior is documented

There is no authoritative maintainer statement proving shared or synchronized saves for a Final Fantasy VII Remake co-op mod. The absence of that information is important because a network session and a persistent campaign are separate engineering problems. A mod could allow two characters to appear in one encounter while still writing only the host’s state, writing incompatible files, or requiring both players to start from their own local saves.

Do not assume that a guest’s items, experience, quest flags, chapter completion or unlocks will transfer. Do not overwrite an existing single-player file simply because a session appeared to finish successfully. Until save semantics are published, regard any co-op save as experimental.

A safe way to test an unverified build

  1. Identify the exact storefront and game build on every participating PC. The Square Enix support notice distinguishes PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store and Steam builds and lists separate version numbers.
  2. Make an independent backup of your current single-player saves using the game or launcher’s normal backup method. Keep that backup outside the folder used by the mod.
  3. Use a disposable test profile or a newly started slot for the first session. Do not use a file containing irreplaceable progress, completion data or rare items.
  4. Record who is hosting, which chapter is loaded and what each player has before connecting. After disconnecting, inspect each profile separately rather than assuming both changed identically.
  5. Test a clean restart: close the game, relaunch it and load the resulting file without the other player. If the maintainer has not documented recovery, be prepared to restore the backup.

These steps do not make an unsupported mod safe; they limit the cost of discovering that its save behavior is host-only, unstable or incompatible with your build.

Can PC players join friends on PlayStation?

Cross-platform play has not been verified

The documented technical evidence concerns Windows PC mod loading. It does not describe a PlayStation plugin, a console-compatible network layer, matchmaking, relay servers or a bridge between PC and console editions. A PC mod therefore cannot be assumed to accept a PlayStation 5 player merely because the base game is released on both platforms.

Console and PC releases can differ in executable code, patches, assets, account services and permitted file access. A feature that works between two identical Windows builds would still not demonstrate PC-to-PlayStation support. No authoritative source currently confirms such support for a Final Fantasy VII Remake co-op mod.

Claims that would need to be documented

  • Exact platforms and editions, including whether the target is Steam, Epic Games Store or PlayStation 5.
  • Whether all participants must run the same game build and mod version.
  • The networking method: direct connection, local network, relay service or another architecture.
  • How players authenticate and discover one another.
  • Whether console players need an official update, a separate client or no installation at all.
  • Who provides servers, how sessions are recovered after a disconnect and whether cross-platform voice or input is supported.

Until those points appear in a maintainer’s documentation, treat “cross-play” as a marketing claim rather than a supported capability.

What PC mod infrastructure is documented?

FFVIIHook’s documented role

The FFVIIHook utility page documents two functions for the PC game: unlocking the developer console and allowing loose Unreal Engine 4 INI files to load from the game’s configuration directory. Its installation instruction says to place xinput1_3.dll beside the PC executable in End\Binaries\Win64.

This is evidence that local PC mod loading is technically possible. It is not evidence that FFVIIHook implements networking, player synchronization, campaign ownership or cross-platform connections. Installing a loader only supplies an environment in which another mod might run; it does not add co-op by itself.

Installation boundaries for an unverified co-op project

  1. Start with the project’s own maintainer page or release notes. Confirm that it names Final Fantasy VII Remake INTERGRADE, your storefront and your exact build before copying files.
  2. Check whether the project explicitly lists FFVIIHook as a prerequisite. Do not add a DLL solely because another mod uses it.
  3. If the maintainer gives the FFVIIHook procedure, place xinput1_3.dll beside the executable in End\Binaries\Win64, exactly as documented, and retain a clean backup of the original files.
  4. Follow the project’s stated configuration-directory instructions for loose INI files. Do not guess a folder from another Unreal Engine title.
  5. Launch the unmodified game once, then test the loader alone before adding any co-op files. This separates a loader or build problem from a networking problem.
  6. Add the co-op component only after the prerequisite test succeeds. Keep a written list of every file changed so removal is reversible.

If a project supplies no maintainer instructions, no supported-build list and no recovery procedure, there is no reliable installation path to recommend.

Why storefront and version matching matters

Square Enix’s support information separates the PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store and Steam versions and assigns distinct version numbers. A mod compiled or tested against one build may fail on another even when both are called “the PC version.” Patches can alter executable addresses, configuration behavior, scripting and save formats.

Edition or storefront What is established What a mod user must confirm
PlayStation 5 Listed separately in Square Enix support information. Whether the mod supports the console at all; no co-op support is documented.
Epic Games Store Listed as a distinct build with its own version information. The exact version named by the maintainer and whether its files match the release.
Steam Listed as a distinct build with its own version information. The exact version named by the maintainer and whether updates changed compatibility.

The available material does not state the individual version numbers, so they should be taken from the current Square Enix support notice and compared with the mod’s own compatibility statement. Never infer compatibility from a shared storefront name or from another player’s screenshot.

How to assess a future verified co-op release

If a maintainer later publishes a real release, use this checklist before inviting a friend:

  • Campaign coverage: every supported chapter and mode is named, including whether EPISODE INTERmission is excluded.
  • Player count: the minimum, maximum and whether the count changes by mission are specified.
  • Progression ownership: host-only, synchronized or per-player behavior is explained with examples.
  • Save format and recovery: backup instructions, disconnect handling and rollback steps are provided.
  • Networking: connection method, hosting requirements, ports or relay requirements and latency limitations are documented.
  • Build support: storefront, edition, game version and mod version are listed together.
  • Platform scope: PC-only, console support and any cross-platform combination are stated explicitly.
  • Maintenance: a repository, release history or changelog identifies who fixes breakage after game updates.

A project that answers only “yes, co-op works” has not answered the questions that determine whether a multi-hour campaign is practical.

Common failure cases and the right response

Symptom Likely information gap Safer response
The game will not start after adding a DLL. The loader may target a different build, conflict with another mod or be installed in the wrong executable directory. Remove the added files, restore the clean backup and verify the maintainer’s exact path and version requirements.
Two PCs cannot connect. The project may require a specific network method or may not implement multiplayer at all. Check the release notes for networking prerequisites; do not assume a local connection or online service is supported.
Players see different objectives or cutscenes. Campaign state may be host-owned or unsynchronized. Stop before saving, record each player’s state and restore the test backup if the maintainer gives no recovery method.
A guest loses progress after leaving. The mod may provide session-only or host-only progression. Use the documented progression model, if one exists; otherwise treat the guest session as nonpersistent.
A PC player cannot join a PlayStation friend. Cross-platform networking may not exist. Do not attempt to bypass platform protections; require explicit cross-platform support from the maintainer.

What players can honestly expect now

The strongest verified conclusion is narrow: Final Fantasy VII Remake INTERGRADE has a Windows PC release, and FFVIIHook documents a way to load developer-console and loose-INI functionality locally. Community members have demonstrated or discussed co-op experiments, including a chapter-one playthrough, but no authoritative source establishes a maintained mod that carries two players through the complete campaign.

There is likewise no authoritative proof of shared saves, synchronized progression or PC-to-PlayStation play. Buy or install the PC base game because it is the platform on which the documented mod infrastructure operates, not because the retail release includes co-op. For now, describe any co-op attempt as experimental unless a maintainer publishes the campaign scope, save semantics, supported builds, player count and platform matrix needed to verify it.
