GadgetMatch’s October 6, 2026 roundup of comments attributed to director Naoki Hamaguchi points to 11 planned details in FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION—from linked Materia slots and FITS restrictions to a changing Highwind. They are pre-release reports, not evidence of how the finished game plays. Square Enix currently lists the game for April 8, 2027, on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. GadgetMatch’s roundup is the source for the attributed development details; Square Enix’s North American store listing provides the release and edition information.
What are the 11 reported details?
The points below are GadgetMatch’s account of Hamaguchi’s interviews and comments. The underlying interviews were not independently available in the reporting summarized here, so these should be read as attributed plans and remarks—not confirmed mechanics from a released game.
- Some armor may have three linked Materia slots. Linked slots could allow combinations that depend on slot connections, but the report does not establish how often this armor appears or what combinations will be possible.
- Master Materia is reportedly out. Hamaguchi reportedly cited balance as the reason it will not return. The report does not give a detailed explanation of how the decision affects progression or late-game builds.
- Some Materia may be limited to particular FITS. That would tie certain abilities or options to specific combat configurations rather than making every Materia universally equippable.
- Double Cut and 4x Cut were considered, then set aside. The reported reasoning is that these abilities did not fit the more action-oriented combat. This is a development decision, not a complete list of abilities that will or will not appear.
- Knights of the Round is reportedly getting dedicated story content. The report does not specify the content’s length, format, or role in the main plot.
- Johnny and his clones are expected to return in side content. No further details about the quest or how the clones feature are established in the roundup.
- The Great Glacier is set to bring back stamina management. The reported plan suggests traversal will involve managing stamina again, but the exact rules and their impact on exploration are not confirmed.
- The team wants the PC version to run more smoothly than Rebirth. This is a stated goal, not a performance result. It says nothing conclusive about frame rates, hardware requirements, or the finished PC release.
- FITS started as a simpler outfit idea. The concept reportedly began with job symbols on outfits before developing into a combat system. The roundup does not give a full account of how the system evolved.
- The Highwind is meant to change as exploration advances. People and dialogue aboard the airship reportedly shift over time, making it more than a static way to travel.
- Hamaguchi says the original Final Fantasy VII remains at the project’s heart. The reported position is that the project is not solely his personal reinterpretation of the story.
How do these details fit the larger plan?
GadgetMatch also reports that the three games are intended to form one connected journey while each functions as a full-scale RPG. It describes Revelation’s theme as “resolve,” says choices may influence story direction, and reports that the Highwind arrives relatively early in a world designed to be open and vertically structured. Those are development descriptions, not proof of how much freedom or story impact players will experience.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe roundup further reports optional auto-leveling, Chapter Select, minigame difficulty and skip options, and announced story DLC focused on Sephiroth and Vincent. It does not establish the precise implementation or availability details for these features.
#1 Best Overall
- Immerse yourself in the city of Midgar like never before, with improved textures, lighting, and background environments
- Players can switch between two game modes: "Graphics Mode" prioritizes 4K high-resolution graphics; "Performance Mode" prioritizes smooth action at 60 frames per second
- Capture and share your memorable moments from the game with a fully customizable “Photo Mode”
- Players can enjoy immersive battles by using the DualSense PlayStation 5 controller with its haptic feedback integration
- Play the brand-new episode featuring Yuffie and experience new combat and gameplay additions
What remains unanswered before release?
The roundup leaves several central questions open: how the ending connects with Advent Children, how consequential player choices are, and whether the large world is compelling to explore. The reported Highwind and exploration plans do not answer those questions, and the PC performance goal cannot be judged until the released version is tested.
