Tesla Full Self-Driving (Supervised), or FSD (Supervised), is a set of driver-assistance features that can handle some steering, route-following, lane-change, turn, and intersection tasks. It does not make a Tesla autonomous: the driver must watch the road, supervise the system, and be ready to take control at any time.
What FSD (Supervised) is
Tesla describes FSD (Supervised) as a suite of advanced driver-assistance features. Tesla’s evidence dashboard classifies it as SAE Level 2: the system can provide sustained lateral and longitudinal control, while the driver remains responsible for supervising the driving environment and responding when needed. That level describes the division of responsibility, not a ranking of technical sophistication. Tesla’s evidence dashboard and Tesla Support both make clear that active supervision is required.
In Tesla’s words, “Currently enabled features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous.”

What the system can do
Depending on the vehicle and available feature set, Tesla says FSD (Supervised) can attempt to drive toward a destination, follow road curves, change lanes, make turns, select route forks, negotiate intersections and roundabouts, and enter or exit highways. Tesla also describes Autopark and Summon functions on select vehicles. These are descriptions of intended capabilities, not assurances that every function is available on every Tesla or will work in every situation. Tesla’s feature information describes availability as vehicle-dependent.

What “Supervised” requires of the driver
The driver remains responsible for the vehicle and its operation. Keep attention on the roadway and surrounding traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists, and be prepared to intervene immediately. Tesla says the cabin camera monitors driver attentiveness and that the system can issue escalating warnings requiring a response. Do not treat the absence of a warning as permission to stop supervising.
You can disengage by braking, steering manually, or using the controls specified for your vehicle. Check the vehicle’s Owner’s Manual for the applicable controls and instructions. Tesla Owner’s Manuals provide vehicle-specific operating guidance.

Where extra caution is needed
Tesla warns that intervention may be necessary on narrow roads with oncoming traffic, in construction zones, at complex intersections, around blind corners, and when crossing intersections. The system may not always detect or respond appropriately to pedestrians, cyclists, other road users, or animals. Tesla also says driver monitoring may alert incorrectly or fail to alert. These limitations make continuous supervision essential, rather than optional.

Dirt, obstruction, rain, or faded lane markings can affect performance. Tesla’s Model S manual, for example, warns against using the feature when a rear-mounted item such as a bike rack or trailer blocks a camera; the relevant warning can vary by vehicle. Why features differ between vehicles
FSD (Supervised) features can vary by vehicle configuration, hardware, software version, region, model, trim, and model year. An over-the-air software update may be needed before features appear. To check what applies to a particular car, review its Software screen and Owner’s Manual. Tesla says the Software screen can show “Full Self Driving Capability” in the included package and “Full Self-Driving (Supervised) Software”; controls may differ by model and year. Tesla Support
Subscription and changing program details
Tesla Support lists a $99 USD monthly subscription price on the page reviewed, while noting that price and feature availability can change. The page says customers can subscribe through the Tesla app or vehicle touchscreen and that the vehicle must complete a software update before the features are available. It also states that the FSD (Supervised) Transfer Program ended March 31, 2026. How to interpret Tesla’s safety and usage figures
Tesla’s evidence dashboard reports more than 10.5 billion kilometers (6.5 billion miles) driven with FSD (Supervised) active on public roads worldwide. The reviewed dashboard does not state a publication year for that figure. Tesla Support also makes claims of “7x fewer major and minor collisions” and “5x fewer off-highway collisions,” but the reviewed passage does not state a year or comparison methodology.
