First determine whether the transfer is still pending or is confirmed on the blockchain. Find the transaction hash, verify the token, amount, destination address, network and status in the relevant block explorer, then match the response to who controls the destination. A confirmed transfer normally cannot be recalled by the sender; recovery depends on your own wallet displaying the funds, a custodian choosing to investigate, or the recipient voluntarily returning them.
Start with the transaction record
Do not send another transfer to test, repair or “push through” the first one. A second payment creates a second transaction and does not alter the first.
Find the transaction hash or ID
- Open the sending wallet or exchange through its official app or website.
- Open the actual transaction history and copy the transaction hash or transaction ID.
- Open the block explorer for the network shown by the sending service. Search for that hash, rather than searching only by an address that may have many transactions.
- Compare the explorer record with your receipt: exact stablecoin, amount, destination address, network, date and time.
- Record whether the explorer and the sending service show the transfer as pending, confirmed or failed.
The status determines which options are realistic. A pending entry inside a custodial service may still be subject to that provider’s internal process. A confirmed on-chain transaction has been recorded by the network, so the sender normally has no cancel button. If the status is unclear or the wallet and explorer disagree, preserve the hash and contact the sending provider through its official support channel before taking another action.
Choose the response by destination and status

If the destination is your own wallet
A wrong-network transfer is not automatically the same as a lost transfer when you control the destination wallet. The address may be visible only after the wallet is connected to the network that actually received the coins.

Switch to the network used by the transaction
- Read the network field in the sending receipt and the explorer record.
- In your wallet, select that exact network rather than the network you intended to use.
- Refresh the balance and transaction history after switching.
Circle’s USDC guidance specifically notes that a completed USDC transfer may require switching the wallet to the network used before the balance appears. This is a visibility and compatibility check, not a reversal of the transaction.
Check token visibility
If the correct network is selected but USDC is still absent, the wallet may require you to add the token manually. Use the wallet’s documented procedure and confirm that the wallet supports that network and asset. Procedures for USDC should not be treated as universal instructions for every stablecoin; each token and wallet can have different network support.
Do not assume that an address format alone proves where the funds went. Confirm the network and token shown in the explorer. If you control the keys and the transaction is confirmed, the immediate problem may be display or network selection rather than a need for a recovery service.

If the destination is an exchange or custodian
Send a support request through the custodian’s official website or app. Do not use a phone number, social-media account or direct message supplied by a stranger. A custodian may be able to locate an unsupported or misrouted deposit in its systems, but assistance is case-specific and is never a recovery guarantee.
Include a complete case file
Provide the information support staff need to identify the deposit:
- Transaction hash or transaction ID.
- Stablecoin name and exact amount.
- Sender address and destination address.
- Network used for the transfer.
- Date and time, including the time zone if available.
- The sending wallet or provider, including its name and version when relevant.
- Screenshots or receipts that show the same details, with unrelated passwords and security codes removed.
Circle’s support checklist requests the transaction hash, wallet address and provider or version, networks, time and amount. Giving those details in the first case can reduce back-and-forth, but it does not oblige the custodian to return or credit the funds.

Ask for identification, not a promise
Ask whether the provider can identify the deposit, determine whether the asset and network are supported, and explain any case-specific crediting process. Do not describe a support ticket as proof that recovery is underway. Keep the case number and all correspondence, and do not open duplicate cases with unverified contacts.

A confirmed blockchain transfer cannot be recalled by the sender. If you know who controls the address, the practical route is to contact that person and ask them to send the stablecoins back. Give them the transaction hash, asset, amount and your return address, and verify the return network before they send anything.
An address by itself does not reliably reveal its owner. Do not publicly accuse a person or assume that an exchange account, company or individual controls an address merely because of its format. If the recipient is unknown and no custodian is involved, there is no self-service mechanism that makes the network undo the payment.

What “confirmed” means for recovery
Once a transfer is confirmed, the network treats it as an executed transaction. The sender’s wallet cannot edit the destination, and a stablecoin issuer generally cannot reach into an unrelated wallet and move the balance back. Circle’s USDC terms state: This means that such transaction is irreversible and Circle does not have the ability to reverse or recall any transaction once initiated.
That statement concerns the inability to reverse or recall an initiated transaction; it does not mean every mistaken transfer is hopeless. A transfer to your own wallet may become visible after selecting the correct network. A custodian may choose to investigate a deposit it controls. A known recipient may agree to return the funds. Those are different situations from a sender-side cancellation and depend on control of the destination and the applicable provider policy.
There is no single recovery percentage that applies across stablecoins, chains, wallets and exchanges. Policies, technical support and legal constraints differ, so treat anyone quoting a guaranteed success rate as a warning sign.

Protect yourself from recovery scams
People who have already lost money are frequent targets for a second loss. The Federal Trade Commission warns that recovery scams may involve unexpected offers to retrieve funds in exchange for payment or personal and financial information.
Reject these red flags
- An unsolicited message claiming to be a blockchain investigator, issuer employee, exchange agent or “hacker” who guarantees a return.
- A demand for an upfront fee, tax, activation charge or cryptocurrency payment before any work is done.
- A request for your wallet seed phrase, private key, password, two-factor authentication code or full financial details.
- A request to install remote-access software, share your screen or hand over control of the wallet or computer.
- Pressure to keep the conversation secret or to act immediately outside the provider’s normal support process.
Use a safe contact process
Type the provider’s known official address yourself or open its official app. Start a new support request there rather than clicking a link in an unsolicited message. Support staff should not need your seed phrase or private key to inspect a transaction hash. Never pay an unexpected recovery offer simply because the sender knows your address or transaction details; those details can be public on a blockchain.
Prevent the next mistaken transfer
Before confirming a stablecoin payment, pause long enough to compare the four fields that matter: token, amount, destination address and network. For a custodial deposit, read the recipient’s current deposit instructions and make sure the selected network is one it supports. For a self-custody transfer, make sure the receiving wallet supports both the selected network and the token and that you know how that wallet displays the asset.

- Read the network name on the final confirmation screen instead of relying on a familiar address format.
- Save the receipt and transaction hash until the recipient confirms arrival.
- If anything differs between the receipt, wallet and recipient instructions, stop and resolve the discrepancy before approving the transaction.
- Use only official support channels when a transfer needs investigation.
These checks cannot reverse a payment already confirmed to someone else, but they address the errors that can be corrected before signing the transaction.
