The Miele DA 399-7 Classic is a 35⅜-inch stainless-steel wall hood with three fan speeds, a booster setting, LED lighting, and three dishwasher-safe grease filters. For the U.S. version, Miele lists 489 CFM at booster level. It is a fit-first purchase: check the cabinet and cooktop clearances, duct route, and whether you want to vent outdoors or add the parts needed for recirculation before deciding.
What the U.S. DA 399-7 Classic includes
This review covers Miele’s U.S. DA 399-7 Classic, material number 10558800. Miele describes it as a stainless-steel wall ventilation hood with a trapezoidal canopy. The canopy measures 35⅜ inches wide, 20½ inches deep, and 4¾ inches high. The product page lists a price of $2,899, but that is a U.S. listing observed in 2026, not a guaranteed current price or a price for other markets. Miele’s U.S. product page
The hood has electronic light-touch controls, three regular power levels, and a booster level. Miele rates the U.S. model at 489 CFM (830 m³/h) on booster. That is a manufacturer specification, not an independent airflow measurement. The unit’s listed electrical requirements are 120 V, 60 Hz, a 15 A fuse rating, and a NEMA 5-15 plug; the data sheet lists its weight as 58 lb. Miele’s U.S. product data sheet
Vented or recirculating: choose the setup before ordering
Vented exhaust
In a vented installation, the hood exhausts air through ductwork to the outside. Miele lists a top vent connection with a 6-inch (150 mm) diameter. Confirm that your duct route and existing duct size can accommodate the installation; the listed booster airflow does not establish the airflow your kitchen will achieve after installation.

Recirculation
Recirculation is a retrofit configuration, not a complete setup included with the bare hood. Miele lists the DUW 20 conversion kit and DKF 12-P OdorFree charcoal filter as separate accessories. Check that both parts are compatible with material number 10558800 and available in your market before buying. The recirculation configuration also has a different overall height range from the vented version.

Check fit, clearance, and power before purchase
The canopy’s 35⅜-inch width and 20½-inch depth determine how much space it occupies above the cooking area. Measure the wall, surrounding cabinets, and the planned hood position, then check vertical placement against the cooktop. Miele lists minimum clearances of 24⅛ inches (610 mm) above electric cooktops and 26 inches (660 mm) above gas cooktops under the stated gas-cooktop power conditions. - Determine whether the installation will be vented or recirculating, and use the corresponding overall-height range.
- For a vented setup, check the route and size of the duct against the listed 6-inch connection.
- Check the cooktop clearance, including the specified conditions for a gas cooktop.
- Confirm that the electrical supply and plug arrangement match the listed 120 V, 60 Hz requirements.
Filters, lighting, controls, and automatic shutoff
Miele lists three 10-ply stainless-steel grease filters that are dishwasher-safe. Behind them, the hood has a smooth, sealed CleanCover interior surface. These are manufacturer-described maintenance features; they do not establish cleaning effort under everyday use. In a recirculating setup, the separately listed charcoal filter is an additional part to account for.

Lighting comes from two 3 W LEDs. Miele specifies 300 lx and a 3000 K color temperature. The light-touch controls select three standard fan levels or booster. Miele also states that “The ventilation hood switches off automatically after 10 hours.” That is the manufacturer’s feature description, not an independently tested safety finding.
How to interpret airflow and regional specifications
Use the current U.S. listing’s 489 CFM (830 m³/h) booster figure only for the U.S. material number 10558800. Miele’s older U.S. specification sheet reports 625 CFM maximum airflow and mentions an optional reducing collar to bring airflow below 400 CFM; it is a legacy document, not the current U.S. specification. Other market documents are not interchangeable with the current U.S. page. Miele Australia lists 500 m³/h at booster level, while a Central Europe data sheet identifies a different material number, 10558470. The available product information does not establish independent real-world capture performance, measured noise in a comparable test, or long-term reliability. Miele’s airflow, lighting, filter, and feature claims are manufacturer specifications and descriptions; they are not a substitute for independent testing. There is not enough evidence here to conclude that the hood is unusually quiet, more effective than alternatives, especially durable, or worth its listed price on performance grounds.

For a comparison with another hood, focus on whether each model fits the same space, what its current market-specific airflow documentation actually says, whether noise figures come from comparable testing, what recirculation parts cost, and the total installed cost. The manual lookup page accepts a model name such as “DA 399-7” for finding model documentation. Miele manual lookup
