The Blendtec HP3A is a discontinued home blender with extensive preset and manual controls, but its age makes condition, regional warranty coverage, and replacement-part fit more important than its feature list. Blendtec’s manual documents what the HP3A was designed to do; it does not establish the performance of a particular used machine or confirm current stock.
What the HP3A is—and what this review can establish
HP3A is the model name for Blendtec’s Home Blender. Blendtec Europe places it in its discontinued-model manuals index, so buyers should treat it as a legacy product rather than assume it remains in regular production. The official Blendtec manuals index and HP3A Home Blender manual are the clearest available references for the model.
This is a document-based review, not a hands-on test: the available evidence describes the manufacturer’s features and instructions, not independent measurements of blending quality, noise, durability, or speed. The manual is copyright 2011, so its warranty language should not be mistaken for a promise covering every unit today.

Blendtec’s manual documents 25 preprogrammed blend cycles, optional manual controls, four customizable preset buttons, and pulse. The factory presets are Slow, Smoothie, Mixed Drinks, and Whole Juice. These are documented controls, not independent evidence that every cycle delivers a particular result.

- Speed cycle: Pressing Speed Up starts a 50-second cycle. During that cycle, the arrow controls can select up to 10 speeds.
- Pulse: The blender runs while the button is held. The manual suggests it for short tasks such as chopping, mincing, and whipping.
The manual lists a motor base, blender jar with lid, and recipe book as package contents. It describes the jar as BPA-free and the blade assembly as stainless steel. These statements describe the original package and construction; they do not confirm what comes with a particular resale unit.
How does it compare with Blendtec’s current Classic blenders?
Blendtec’s current Classic series page describes the Total Blender Classic and Classic 575. The listed specifications below are for those models only; they must not be transferred to the HP3A.

The table illustrates why a current Classic model is not a specification sheet for the HP3A. If a seller describes an HP3A using a current model’s motor rating, timer, or warranty, ask for documentation specific to the HP3A and the unit being sold.

It may suit someone who wants the HP3A’s documented controls and can verify the machine’s condition and support situation. It is a riskier choice for someone who needs assured parts availability, current-model coverage, or a warranty that transfers automatically. Blendtec’s official materials do not confirm current HP3A inventory, a specific marketplace listing, or the compatibility of any currently sold jar or service part.

Before paying for a used or remaining-stock unit, check the following with the seller and, where needed, Blendtec or an authorized dealer:
- Condition and service history: Ask whether the base has been serviced and whether there are known faults. The manual cautions owners not to remove or repair the motor cover.
- Voltage and plug: Confirm the unit matches the electrical supply where it will be used. The manual covers regional versions, and its warranty terms limit coverage to the country of purchase.
- Jar and lid: Confirm both are included and undamaged. Do not assume a jar sold for another Blendtec model fits the HP3A.
- Seller and warranty: Confirm the original purchase date, country, seller authorization, and the warranty terms that apply to that serial number.
- Replacement parts: Ask Blendtec or an authorized dealer to confirm the exact part number and HP3A compatibility before ordering. The manual warns against unauthorized attachments.
What warranty applies to an HP3A?
The HP3A manual’s international warranty section states three years of parts coverage and one year of labor for the motor, and three years of coverage for the jar assembly. It also says machines are warranted in the country of purchase only. Because that manual is marked copyright 2011, those terms should be read as the manual’s stated coverage—not as proof that a used machine still has time remaining or that coverage transfers to a new owner.

Blendtec’s current US warranty page displays terms for current residential models but does not list the HP3A in its displayed schedule; the page limits its described warranty to products purchased from Blendtec or an authorized dealer in the US or Canada. Blendtec Europe’s FAQ says internationally purchased blenders are warrantied by the dealer that sold them. For a specific machine, ask Blendtec or the original authorized dealer to verify coverage using its serial number, purchase date, and country of sale. Do not apply a current Classic model’s warranty to the HP3A.
What the manual says about safe use and care
Blendtec explicitly designates the HP3A for household use. Its manual states: “THE BLENDER IS INTENDED FOR HOME USE ONLY! ANY USE OF THE BLENDER FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES VOIDS ALL WARRANTIES.”

- Keep the lid on while operating, stay within the jar’s marked capacity, and use only attachments approved by Blendtec.
- For the base, use a damp cloth; do not immerse the motor. The manual says to wash the jar and lid in hot, soapy water. It permits top-shelf dishwasher washing of the jar and recommends turning off heated drying.
- For hot liquids, use the vented lid as directed and take care around steam from the clear center lid.
- Do not remove the motor cover or attempt motor repairs; the manual directs owners to an authorized or qualified service agent.
What to do if blending stalls or the display reports a fault
The manual describes cavitation as an air pocket that forms when a mixture is too cold or solid. In that troubleshooting context, it says frozen ingredients should not be colder than 10°F (-12°C). It suggests reducing ice, adding liquid, or raising the mixture’s temperature; if the mixture simply needs more time, it suggests a longer cycle or pulse.
The manual also describes LCD messages for overtemperature and overload, with instructions to stop, unplug, and follow its cooling or blockage checks. Follow the full HP3A manual and official service guidance for the exact message; do not treat a brief summary as a repair procedure.
