In provider-published U.S. plan prices reviewed on October 7, 2026, entry-level human virtual receptionist plans range from $165 to $350 per month. The allowances and billing units vary, so the lowest starting price is not necessarily the lowest cost for your call pattern. The highest listed tiers in this sample range from $575 to $2,100 per month.

Published virtual receptionist prices in 2026

The figures below are provider-published prices reviewed October 7, 2026. They are a sample of plans, not an industry average. Plan prices, names, allowances, and terms can change; the cited pages are U.S.-oriented and do not establish prices in other countries.

Why the advertised starting price may not match your bill

Plans count usage differently

Smith.ai’s listed human plans charge per call, while Ruby, Abby, and AnswerConnect publish minute-based plans. A business with many short calls may have a different cost profile from one with fewer, longer calls. Compare your estimated usage against the specific allowance rather than comparing entry prices alone.

Overages and rounding add up

Smith.ai publishes per-call overage rates, and Abby says overages use the plan’s Abby Minute rate. AnswerConnect charges for additional minutes and rounds interactions up to whole minutes. Ruby’s cited pricing page does not state its overage rate, so confirm it before estimating costs above the plan allowance.

AI and human service are separate comparisons

Abby says AI answering uses half an Abby Minute, so its entry plan can cover up to 100 AI minutes. Smith.ai also publishes a separate AI receptionist product with its own call tiers. Those units and products are not directly comparable to the human receptionist plans in the table.

How to estimate your likely monthly cost

  1. Measure a typical month. Count incoming calls and estimate average call duration, including busy periods. Use actual call records if available.
  2. Match usage to the billing unit. For a per-call plan, estimate the number of billable calls. For a minute plan, estimate total billable minutes and account for any rounding rules.
  3. Apply the included allowance and overage rate. Check whether expected usage fits within the plan. Add published overage charges for excess use; ask the provider for rates that are not shown publicly.
  4. Add one-time fees and check terms. Include setup fees where listed, and verify current exclusions, add-ons, trial conditions, and contract terms directly with the provider.
  5. Compare equivalent service. Keep human and AI handling separate, and compare the included features and coverage as well as the price.

What these prices do—and do not—tell you

In this published sample, entry human receptionist tiers run from $165 to $350 per month, while the highest listed tiers range from $575 to $2,100. The sample does not establish a universal market rate or identify a cheapest provider for every business: allowances, billing units, overage policies, and service terms differ. It also does not provide a dated labor-cost comparison with hiring an in-house receptionist.
