Google Meet is Samsung’s closest built-in equivalent to FaceTime: Galaxy users can make Meet calls in the Meet app and, on some devices, from the Phone app. Samsung users can also join an Apple FaceTime call if an Apple user sends them a link, but that is joining an Apple-hosted call—not starting a native FaceTime call from a Galaxy phone.
What is Samsung’s equivalent to FaceTime?
Samsung does not offer one Samsung-owned video-calling service that duplicates FaceTime across every Galaxy model. Samsung’s current US support guidance points Galaxy owners to Google Meet and notes that carrier video calling may also be available, depending on the device and carrier. Samsung Support’s video-call guide also lists third-party apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Skype, Snapchat, Google Chat, Zoom, Webex, and Discord. These are examples, not a Samsung-certified ranking.
For most Galaxy users looking for the simplest FaceTime substitute, start with Meet. If you need to reach someone specifically through FaceTime, ask them to send you a FaceTime link; the Samsung instructions cover joining a link-based call, not initiating a standard FaceTime call from Galaxy.
How to make a Google Meet call on a Samsung Galaxy
Samsung’s current US instructions describe these steps. The exact app location and labels can vary by device and software version.

- Open Meet. On the devices in Samsung’s guide, it appears in the Google folder. If prompted, sign in to a Google account and allow the requested permissions.
- Tap New, then choose Create a new meeting, Create group, or search for or dial a contact.
- Select the contact or contacts, then tap Call.
On some Galaxy devices, you can also open the Phone app, tap its video-call icon, and select Meet. Samsung’s September 15, 2023 guide describes a slightly different Meet flow: open Meet, tap New call, select a contact or group, then tap Call. If those labels do not match what you see, use the current options displayed in your Meet app.
Samsung says Meet supports up to 100 participants on devices running One UI 5 and later. That capacity is tied to the stated One UI condition and is Samsung’s published guidance, not a universal limit for every Galaxy device or Meet call.

Can a Samsung phone video call an iPhone?
Yes. A Galaxy phone can call an iPhone user through Google Meet if both people use the Meet calling route. A carrier video call may also work, but it depends on carrier and device support on both sides. If you want to use FaceTime, the iPhone user can create and send a FaceTime link for you to join.
These routes work differently:
- Google Meet: Use the Meet app or, on some Galaxy phones, start from the Phone app’s video-call control. The other person needs to join through Meet.
- Carrier video calling: Start from the Phone app when the carrier and devices support the feature. It may not be available for all carriers or phones.
- FaceTime link: The Apple user hosts and sends the link; the Galaxy user opens it and requests to join.
How to join a FaceTime call on a Samsung phone
- Ask the Apple user to send you a FaceTime link.
- Open the link on your Samsung phone.
- Enter a name and continue. Allow camera or microphone access if prompted.
- Wait for the host to approve your request to join, if approval is required.
Samsung’s guidance supports joining FaceTime calls through a link. It does not establish that Galaxy phones run the native FaceTime app or can start ordinary FaceTime calls themselves.

When Samsung’s carrier video-call option is missing or fails
Carrier video calling may appear in the Phone app before or during a call, but Samsung says availability depends on the carrier and device. If you do not see a video-call option, or the other person cannot receive a carrier video call, check whether both devices and carriers support it. Samsung says the phone may indicate that the receiving device cannot accept the call; its suggested alternative is to try Meet.

Samsung identifies tablets and computers as possible devices for video calling, too. You do not need to buy another device to use Meet or join a FaceTime link; a larger screen is simply an option if it suits how you want to call.

Samsung’s US support guidance is the basis for the Meet, carrier-calling, and FaceTime-link instructions here. Features can vary by region, carrier, device, and software release. Samsung’s cited pages do not provide comparative evidence for ranking these services by call quality, privacy, cost, or reliability, so the practical choice is the route that works with the other person’s device and calling setup.
