Samsung Galaxy Enhance-X is a Galaxy Store editor for improving pictures you already have on a compatible Galaxy phone. Its Magic button applies a broad, one-tap enhancement, while separate tools target brightness, blur, sharpness, reflections, lens distortion, Moiré patterns, portraits, faces, old-photo damage and resolution. Samsung calls these AI-assisted features, but it does not publicly describe the exact models, processing pipeline or whether a particular edit runs locally or remotely.
Availability and controls depend on the phone, Android and One UI versions, the image and what the app detects. Samsung’s current US support baseline is Android 14 with One UI 6.0 or newer; verify the exact phone in Galaxy Store rather than relying on an old model list.
What Galaxy Enhance-X is (and is not)
Enhance-X is an additional photo editor, not a camera-capture app. Samsung says it can open pictures taken with the Galaxy camera as well as previously saved or downloaded images. You select an existing file, choose an automatic or targeted tool, review the result and save an edited copy.
The app is designed for common defects rather than full professional retouching. A correction can make a picture look cleaner, brighter or more legible, but no editor can reliably recreate detail that was never recorded. Samsung’s feature descriptions explain intended uses; they do not constitute a guarantee for every image, subject, file type or phone.

What each Enhance-X tool does
| Tool | Purpose described by Samsung | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Magic | One-tap, all-around enhancement intended to refine visual noise, blur and low detail. | It is a general pass, not a promise that every defect will be corrected. |
| Brighten | Raises the apparent brightness of a dark image. | The app may show the control only when its AI detects a possible improvement. |
| HDR | Balances bright and dark areas to improve the perceived range of tones. | Samsung does not publish a technical description of the HDR processing. |
| Shadow and reflection correction | Reduces unwanted shadows or reflections. | Automatic correction is offered when the app identifies a suitable problem. |
| Fix Blur | Targets blur in an image. | It cannot guarantee recovery of motion or focus detail that was never captured. |
| Sharpen | Increases apparent edge definition and crispness. | Excessive sharpening can make noise or halos more visible. |
| Fix Lens Distortion | Corrects distortion introduced by a camera lens. | The source descriptions do not specify which lens profiles or distortion amounts are supported. |
| Moiré correction | Addresses interference patterns, such as those in photographs of screens or fine repetitive material. | Samsung names the capability but does not publish its detailed method. |
| Old Photo / Restore picture | Attempts to improve old or damaged pictures and reduce scratches, tears, spots and discoloration. | Samsung’s 2023 announcement says Old Photo uses generative AI and aims to retain facial expressions; that is an intended behavior, not an independent success rate. |
| Portrait | Adjusts portrait lighting and overall balance. | Options depend on the image and detected subject. |
| Face | Offers optional face adjustments after a face is detected, including examples such as face-shape and eye changes in Samsung’s German guide. | These are optional edits, not required steps in a normal enhancement. |
| Increase resolution | Enlarges a file when the app determines that an upscale is appropriate. | Samsung’s German guide says this generally works for files smaller than one megapixel; the threshold can vary by version or device. |
How the AI-assisted processing is described
Samsung describes Magic as using deep learning and AI to refine visual noise, blur and low detail. For the focused tools, the company describes the outcome—such as correcting reflections or Moiré—rather than publishing the model architecture, training data, measurement method or a guaranteed improvement percentage.
Enhance-X is therefore best understood as a set of image-analysis and correction features with automatic detection. The app may hide a control when it does not recognize an opportunity. Samsung’s German support guide explicitly notes that some options become selectable only when the AI identifies a possible optimization. A missing button does not necessarily mean the phone is incompatible; it may mean that the current image does not match that tool.
Samsung has not established in the cited descriptions whether processing is entirely on the phone, partly cloud-based, or different for different tools. Do not infer a storage, privacy or network behavior that Samsung has not stated for your version. The public material also does not provide a controlled comparison with other editors or a reliability rate across different kinds of photographs.
How to use Galaxy Enhance-X
- Install or update from Galaxy Store. Open Galaxy Store on the Galaxy phone, search for “Galaxy Enhance-X,” and install or update the app if it is offered for that device. If it does not appear, check the phone’s software version and regional availability before troubleshooting the image.
- Grant the requested media access. On first launch, Samsung says the app may request access to files and photos/videos. Allow the access needed to select pictures; the exact permission wording can differ by Android release.
- Open an existing picture. Choose a photo from the device. Pictures may be camera originals, older files or downloads; Samsung positions Enhance-X as an editor for existing images.
- Try Magic for a broad pass. Apply Magic when you want one automatic enhancement. Compare the result with the original before saving, especially when the source is already sharp or contains fine texture.
- Choose a focused tool when the defect is known. Use Brighten or HDR for tonal problems, Fix Blur or Sharpen for softness, Reflection for glare, Fix Lens Distortion for geometry, Moiré for interference patterns, Old Photo/Restore picture for damage, Portrait or Face for detected people, and Increase resolution when the app offers it.
- Inspect the preview at full size. Look for halos, invented-looking textures, altered facial features, clipped highlights and new artifacts. A correction that looks good as a thumbnail may fail when printed or cropped.
- Save a new result and keep the original. Use the app’s save control after reviewing the change. Retaining the untouched file lets you try a different tool or reverse an edit without compounding processing.
Compatibility and availability
Samsung US support currently states that Galaxy Enhance-X is supported on phones running Android 14 and One UI 6.0 or above. This is a software baseline, not an exhaustive list of every compatible model or every available feature. Galaxy Store availability can also vary by country, carrier and device configuration.

Samsung’s Germany guide, updated 29 April 2026, gives examples of supported families but labels its model information as a July 2023 note. Treat that list as historical context, not a current inventory. Samsung’s 20 June 2023 announcement described availability for Galaxy S23, S22, S21, S20, Note20 and specified Fold and Flip generations on One UI 5.1 or later. That launch-era requirement predates the newer Android 14/One UI 6.0 support statement and should not be used to claim that every listed phone remains supported.
The reliable check is on the phone you intend to use:
- Open Settings > About phone > Software information and note Android and One UI versions.
- Open Galaxy Store and search for the app while signed in to the relevant region.
- Install the current listing and check which tools appear after opening a representative image.
- Update the phone and Galaxy Store if the listing or controls behave differently from Samsung’s current support information.
Samsung’s published material does not establish support for every image format, nor does it say that every tool appears on every supported phone. A compatible phone can still show a reduced set of controls for a particular file.

Can Enhance-X fix a blurry photo?
It can attempt to improve blur with Fix Blur, and Magic may also refine blur and low detail. That does not mean it can reconstruct a sharply focused photograph from severe motion blur, missed focus or a tiny, heavily compressed source. Sharpening increases apparent edge contrast; it does not create trustworthy original detail.

For the best chance of a useful result, start with the largest original file, avoid repeatedly exporting and recompressing it, apply one correction at a time, and inspect faces, text and high-contrast edges at full size. If the corrected version introduces ringing, waxy textures or false lettering, keep the original instead of treating the AI result as factual evidence.
Choosing the right tool for a specific problem
Dark indoor or backlit scene
Try Brighten first, then evaluate HDR if highlights and shadows need balancing. Check skin tones and bright windows; lifting shadows can expose noise, while aggressive HDR can make a scene look unnatural.
Glare on glass or a photographed document
Use reflection correction when it is offered. The detector may decline to show the control if the pattern is not recognized. For important documents, compare every word with the original because removing glare can also alter fine marks.

Rainbow or rippled pattern on a screen
Moiré correction is designed for interference patterns in screens or repetitive material. If the control is absent, the app may not have detected a suitable pattern.
Scratches, tears or color shifts in a print
Old Photo or Restore picture is the relevant option. Samsung says the Old Photo feature uses generative AI and aims to preserve facial expressions. Because generated areas can be an interpretation, compare faces, lettering and historical details with the source before sharing the restoration as an accurate record.
A small image for a larger display
Increase resolution may be offered when the app detects that enlargement is appropriate. Samsung’s German guide says it generally applies to files under one megapixel. That is a guide-specific condition, not a universal promise for every release, and upscaling does not restore missing photographic information.
Why a control may be missing
- Detection: Some controls appear only after the AI recognizes a possible optimization.
- File characteristics: Resolution, dimensions, compression or format can affect which tools are offered; Samsung has not documented support for every format.
- Software version: The current support baseline is Android 14 and One UI 6.0 or newer, while older announcements used One UI 5.1.
- Device or region: Galaxy Store distribution and feature sets can vary by exact phone and market.
- Image content: Portrait and Face controls require a detectable face or portrait subject, and a correction may be withheld when confidence is low.
Quality, safety and editing limits
Use Enhance-X as an assistive editor, not as proof that an edited image represents details that were absent from the source. Keep an untouched copy for legal, journalistic, scientific or family-history material. Generated restoration can make a damaged face look coherent while changing its actual features; sharpening can make compression noise look like texture; and brightness or HDR changes can hide or exaggerate evidence.

Samsung’s public descriptions do not provide independent laboratory measurements, a competitor benchmark, a per-tool success rate or a guarantee that results are reversible. Make your own acceptability check for the intended use—messaging, a social post, a print, archival restoration or a document—rather than assuming that a stronger-looking result is more accurate.
How Enhance-X fits into an editing workflow
Enhance-X is a good first stop when you want a quick correction inside the Galaxy ecosystem and the relevant tool is offered for your file. It is less suitable when you need a documented processing pipeline, extensive manual controls, batch automation, a published format matrix or independently measured restoration accuracy; Samsung’s cited material does not establish those capabilities.
Before choosing any editor, check five practical points: whether it runs on the exact phone and software version, whether it has the specific correction you need, how much manual control and before/after review it gives you, whether it accepts your image file, and whether the output meets your quality standard. Those criteria matter more than the word “AI” in the product description.
