A “pure 100% F2P” game is not a standard store category. In the strictest sense, it costs nothing to download or play and does not require payment for access or gameplay content. Some people use “pure” more narrowly to mean there are no ads or optional purchases either. Those are different standards, so check what the speaker means—and what the game actually charges for.
Free to download does not mean free of monetization
A game can have a $0 download price and still make money through advertising, optional purchases, subscriptions, or paid content. Apple separates free apps with no monetization from apps that display ads and freemium apps with optional in-app purchases. The UK government uses a broader definition of free-to-play: players get access to significant content for free, while additional content is often available through optional purchases.
In other words, “free-to-play” usually describes the entry point, not a promise that every feature is free or that the game contains no commercial prompts.

Free without monetization
Apple describes this model as free to download and use, with no in-app purchases, sales of physical goods or services in the app, or display advertising. This is the strictest interpretation of “pure 100% F2P.” Apple’s App Store business-model guidance distinguishes it from other free-app models.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Free with ads
The game costs nothing to download, but advertisements appear as part of the experience. That fits “free” in the upfront-price sense, not “pure” if the term means no monetization.
Freemium
A freemium game can be downloaded and played at no cost while offering optional purchases. Apple’s examples include consumable items such as currency or lives, nonconsumables such as extra levels or items, and subscriptions or time-limited passes. The purchases may supplement or customize play, but their presence alone does not establish whether they are necessary to finish or enjoy the main game. Apple’s freemium-games guidance explains this model.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Free entry with paid access or content
A free download may still put a feature, service, or content behind a payment. Google Play requires accurate pricing information and clear disclosure when a feature requires an additional charge. A $0 listing therefore is not enough to determine whether the experience you want is free. Google Play’s payments policy covers those disclosure requirements.
Free-to-play is not the same as pay-to-win
“Free-to-play” describes a pricing and access model; “pay-to-win” is a judgment about how purchases affect competitive advantage. A game might sell cosmetic items or convenience without requiring payment to play, but deciding whether purchases materially affect competition requires evidence about that specific game. Neither “F2P” nor “no pay-to-win” proves that a game has no ads, paid content, or optional spending.

How to check whether a game is free in the way you mean
- Check the download price. Look at the current store listing rather than relying on a “free” label elsewhere.
- Look for purchase notices. Apple’s listing indicates whether an app offers in-app purchases. Google Play requires clear pricing and notice where features need additional payment. These notices flag possible charges; they do not establish that a game is ad-free.
- Inspect the game itself. Check for advertisements, paid currency, subscriptions, season or limited-time passes, locked levels, and other paid content.
- Ask whether payment is required for your intended play. Optional purchases are different from a charge required to access the main game or a feature you want.
- For console games, check platform access separately. Online service charges and access rules depend on the game and platform. The mobile-store guidance above does not settle console billing requirements.
For a comparison between two games, use the same checklist for each: upfront price, payment required to access the main game or progress, purchase types, ads, subscriptions or passes, and any separate charge for online access.
Protect children from unintended purchases
If a child plays on a shared device, caregivers can use device controls to disable in-app purchases or require a password before a purchase. The FTC recommends these controls as ways to manage spending; they do not show whether a particular game has other forms of monetization. The FTC’s guidance on avoiding surprise mobile bills explains the options.

What the label cannot tell you
There is no single, consistent platform-store classification for “pure 100% F2P.” The phrase could mean no upfront cost, no required spending, or no monetization of any kind. Listings and monetization can also change, so a specific game needs a current, title-by-title check before it can be called ad-free, purchase-free, or fully playable without payment.
