The EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti K|NGP|N Hybrid Gaming requires two 16-pin auxiliary power connections on the graphics card. The EVGA PowerLink 52U arrangement reported for this model takes five PCIe 8-pin plugs from the power supply and terminates in two 16-pin plugs for the card. That connector layout is specific to the KINGPIN; the RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 and NVIDIA Founders Edition use different connection arrangements.

The direct answer: two 16-pin inputs on the KINGPIN

Look at the edge of an EVGA RTX 3090 Ti K|NGP|N Hybrid Gaming and you will find two 16-pin auxiliary power sockets. Both sockets are part of the card’s power design. A cable arrangement that feeds only one of them is not the documented KINGPIN setup.

Coverage of EVGA’s PowerLink 52U describes the matching adapter as a five-PCIe-8-pin-to-two-16-pin design. The five 8-pin connectors attach to compatible modular cables from the power supply; the two 16-pin ends attach to the two sockets on the graphics card. The 52U description is the clearest published cable-path information tied specifically to the KINGPIN.

Do not identify the card only by the phrase “RTX 3090 Ti.” EVGA sold more than one version, and the connector count changes between versions. Check the exact model name printed on the card, box, or invoice before buying cables or choosing a power supply.

How the KINGPIN cable arrangement works

GPU side

The card has two 16-pin auxiliary inputs. Each plug must be fully inserted into its corresponding socket. The plugs should sit straight and flush; a partially seated high-current connector can cause instability, shutdowns, or heat at the contact area.

Power-supply side

The documented PowerLink 52U path uses five separate PCIe 8-pin connections on the PSU side. Those connections are not five sockets on the GPU. They are the inputs to the adapter, which combines them into the two 16-pin outputs required by the KINGPIN.

Why the adapter model matters

EVGA also made a PowerLink 41s accessory. EVGA’s official product sheet says the 41s is designed exclusively for the RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 Series, whose card-side arrangement is different. Do not substitute the 41s because its name is similar or because it is described as a 3090 Ti accessory. Confirm that any adapter is identified as the PowerLink 52U and that its supplied cable set is compatible with your exact PSU.

Connector comparison: KINGPIN, FTW3 and Founders Edition

The following distinctions prevent the most common cable-count mistake: applying another 3090 Ti model’s instructions to the KINGPIN.

Graphics-card variant Connector arrangement at the card PSU-side connection described in the sources Power guidance and scope
EVGA RTX 3090 Ti K|NGP|N Hybrid Gaming Two 16-pin auxiliary inputs EVGA PowerLink 52U: five PCIe 8-pin plugs to two 16-pin plugs A 1,600 W EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 P2 was reported as part of the 2022 launch bundle; a KINGPIN-specific minimum wattage was not established
EVGA RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 Series One 16-pin input Its adapter uses three PCIe 8-pin PSU connections, and the manual says all three must be connected EVGA’s March 16, 2022 quick guide recommends at least 850 W; this applies to FTW3, not KINGPIN
NVIDIA RTX 3090 Ti Founders Edition NVIDIA’s Founders Edition guidance, not the EVGA KINGPIN layout Three 8-pin leads through the included adapter, or a PCIe Gen 5 16-pin cable rated for at least 450 W NVIDIA lists 850 W required system power, depending on system configuration; this is Founders Edition guidance

The table is not a menu of interchangeable options. The correct row is determined by the exact graphics-card variant. An FTW3 adapter with three 8-pin inputs cannot be treated as a two-input KINGPIN solution, and Founders Edition instructions do not establish a requirement for an EVGA KINGPIN.

What you need before installing the KINGPIN

  • The exact card: Verify that the model is the EVGA RTX 3090 Ti K|NGP|N Hybrid Gaming rather than an FTW3 or another 3090 Ti.
  • A suitable adapter: The published KINGPIN-associated arrangement is the EVGA PowerLink 52U, described as five PCIe 8-pin to two 16-pin.
  • Five compatible PCIe 8-pin PSU connections: Check how many suitable outputs and cables your power supply provides. Do not count CPU/EPS connectors as PCIe connectors.
  • PSU documentation: Confirm that the adapter and modular cables are approved for your PSU model. Modular cables are not universal between brands and can have different pinouts.
  • Clearance: The adapter and cable bundle need room to avoid sharp bends or pressure against the side panel. Plan the routing before closing the case.

The launch report’s inclusion of an EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 P2 explains why some photographs and listings show a 1,600 W supply with the card. That was a reported 2022 bundle detail, not proof that every KINGPIN system must use a 1,600 W unit.

Step-by-step connection procedure

  1. Shut down and isolate the system. Turn the computer off, switch the PSU off, unplug AC power, and wait for the system to discharge. Remove the case panel so you can see both card-side sockets and the PSU cable route.
  2. Confirm the model. Read the label or board marking and verify that it says K|NGP|N Hybrid Gaming. Stop if the card is an FTW3 or Founders Edition; use that model’s own manual instead.
  3. Inspect the adapter. Use the adapter identified for the KINGPIN arrangement. Check every plug for bent terminals, cracked housing, or debris. Do not use a damaged connector or force a plug that does not align.
  4. Connect the PSU-side PCIe leads. Attach five compatible PCIe 8-pin leads to the adapter’s five 8-pin inputs. Use only cables intended for that PSU. Never mix modular cables from a different PSU, even if the connectors fit.
  5. Connect both 16-pin ends to the card. Insert one 16-pin plug into each KINGPIN socket. Press evenly until each connector is fully seated. Keep the cable straight near the plug and avoid putting side pressure on the connector.
  6. Route and secure the cables. Keep the adapter and leads clear of fans and moving parts. Make the bend farther away from the connector rather than immediately at the plug, and make sure the side panel does not push on the assembly.
  7. Perform a visual check. Confirm that all five 8-pin PSU-side plugs are attached, both 16-pin card-side plugs are flush, and no latch is partly engaged. Recheck the PSU-side sockets because one loose 8-pin can interrupt power to the adapter.
  8. Start the system and monitor it. If the computer fails to start, shuts down under load, or reports a GPU power fault, switch it off and inspect every connection before trying again. Do not repeatedly power-cycle a connector that is visibly hot, discolored, or loose.

Choosing a PSU without misreading the 1,600 W bundle

No source in the supplied model-specific evidence establishes a formal minimum PSU wattage for the KINGPIN. Therefore, it would be inaccurate to label 1,600 W as a universal requirement. The 1,600 W figure belongs to the EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 P2 reported as included with the launch package by Hermitage Akihabara in 2022.

Your system’s appropriate capacity depends on the rest of the build, including the processor, drives, cooling hardware, overclocking settings, and transient behavior. Select a high-quality unit with enough native PCIe capacity for the five 8-pin adapter inputs and enough headroom for the complete system. Follow the power-supply manufacturer’s connector and load guidance rather than assuming that a wattage printed in a launch bundle is a minimum specification.

For context only, the EVGA FTW3 quick guide specifies at least 850 W, while NVIDIA’s Founders Edition page lists 850 W required system power and notes that the figure depends on system configuration. Neither 850 W value is a verified KINGPIN recommendation, and neither tells you that five 8-pin leads are available on a particular PSU.

Common mistakes and how to correct them

Using the FTW3 three-plug adapter

Symptom: You have an adapter with three 8-pin inputs and one 16-pin output. Correction: That is the arrangement described for the FTW3, not the KINGPIN’s two-socket layout. Obtain the adapter and cable path specified for the KINGPIN, and verify the card model first.

Connecting only one 16-pin plug

Symptom: One socket is occupied and the other is left empty. Correction: The KINGPIN’s documented design uses two 16-pin inputs. Power down and connect both through the correct adapter before operating the card.

Counting CPU/EPS cables as PCIe cables

Symptom: The PSU appears to have enough eight-pin plugs, but some are labeled CPU or EPS. Correction: Use PCIe-labeled outputs and cables only. The connector shape and pin assignment are not interchangeable just because both plugs have eight positions.

Mixing modular cables

Symptom: A replacement cable fits physically but the system will not start or a connector heats up. Correction: Unplug it immediately and use cables approved for the exact PSU model. A matching shell does not guarantee matching wiring.

Assuming a Founders Edition cable is suitable

Symptom: You have a three-8-pin Founders Edition adapter or a single 16-pin cable rated for that card. Correction: Those are NVIDIA Founders Edition options. They do not document the two-16-pin KINGPIN connection.

Buying the wrong PowerLink accessory

Symptom: A listing says “PowerLink” or “3090 Ti” but does not identify the model. Correction: Check the part designation. EVGA’s 41s sheet identifies that accessory as FTW3-only; the KINGPIN-associated description is the 52U five-8-pin-to-two-16-pin design. Also verify current stock and PSU compatibility because availability and a current listing were not established in the cited coverage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Safety and troubleshooting checks

  • No display or immediate shutdown: Turn the PSU off, reseat both 16-pin plugs and all five 8-pin inputs, then check that the card is fully seated in its slot.
  • Power warning in software: Do not bypass the warning with a partially connected adapter. Confirm the exact model and use its complete connector arrangement.
  • Heat, smell, discoloration, or melted plastic: Stop using the system, disconnect AC power, and replace the damaged cable or adapter after determining the cause. Do not reuse a heat-damaged connector.
  • Intermittent crashes under load: Inspect for loose latches, excessive bend force at the 16-pin plugs, insufficient PSU capacity for the complete build, or incompatible modular cables.
  • Uncertain hardware provenance: Compare the card’s markings and included accessories with the EVGA model documentation. A seller’s generic “3090 Ti” description is not enough to identify the required cable layout.

Bottom line for a KINGPIN build

Plan for two 16-pin connections at the EVGA RTX 3090 Ti K|NGP|N Hybrid Gaming and, for the documented PowerLink 52U arrangement, five PCIe 8-pin PSU-side connections feeding those two outputs. Treat the reported 1,600 W SuperNOVA 1600 P2 as launch-bundle context rather than a universal minimum. Before powering on, verify the exact model, use an adapter intended for that model, use only PSU-compatible PCIe cables, and fully seat every connector.
