HUMANKIND 2 is not released yet. It is planned for 2027, and the official Steam listing currently provides separate minimum and recommended Windows specifications. Those figures are the best available guide as of 18 October 2026, but they can change while Amplitude Studios continues development. Use the minimum tier to judge whether a system may launch the game; use the recommended tier when choosing a target for a more comfortable experience.
HUMANKIND 2 system requirements at a glance
The published requirements cover Windows PCs only. The table below reproduces the current minimum and recommended tiers from the official Steam listing. They are published targets, not independent performance tests, and no final frame-rate guarantee has been announced.

The recommended graphics cards are the clearest upgrade reference: a GTX 1070 with 8 GB of video memory or a Radeon RX 5700 XT with 8 GB. A PC that only reaches the minimum row may be compatible, but the listing does not state what resolution, quality preset or frame rate that level represents.

What the two requirement tiers mean
Minimum is a compatibility floor
Meeting every minimum item means your computer matches the lowest configuration the publisher currently lists. It does not mean that every setting will be available, that large late-game turns will feel equally responsive, or that a laptop with a similarly named part will perform identically to a desktop. A single weak component can become the practical limit even when the rest of the system is stronger.

Recommended is the safer target
The recommended row uses a newer processor family, more memory, a substantially stronger graphics class and DirectX 12. It is the better target for a new build or a major upgrade because it leaves more room for the simulation, background applications and future patches. Even this tier is not a promise of a particular frame rate; the official material contains no independent benchmark results.
Why each HUMANKIND 2 PC spec matters
Operating system
The minimum published platform is a 64-bit edition of Windows 10, while the recommended platform is 64-bit Windows 11. A 32-bit Windows installation cannot satisfy a 64-bit requirement, regardless of how powerful the hardware is. To check, open Settings > System > About and read System type. Windows 10 or 11 editions should also be fully updated before launch; the listing does not identify a specific build number or edition such as Home versus Pro.
Processor
Both tiers specify four-core desktop processor examples. The minimum examples are Intel’s Core i5-4430 and AMD’s FX-8350; the recommended examples move to the Core i7-6700 and Ryzen 5 1500X. Model names from different generations are not directly interchangeable, so compare your exact CPU model rather than assuming that a higher advertised gigahertz figure is enough. Turn-based strategy games still perform substantial simulation work: many units, cities, trade relationships and artificial-intelligence decisions can increase CPU load as a campaign develops.
Memory
The listing sets a lower memory tier and a higher recommended tier. System RAM is separate from graphics memory: an 8 GB graphics card does not give Windows additional system RAM. Check installed memory in Settings > System > About, or open Task Manager > Performance > Memory to see capacity and current usage. Leave headroom for Windows, a web browser, voice chat and overlays; a machine that reaches the requirement only when idle may struggle once those programs are open.

Graphics card and video memory
The minimum examples are a GeForce GTX 960 with 4 GB and a Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB. The recommended examples are a GeForce GTX 1070 with 8 GB and a Radeon RX 5700 XT with 8 GB. These are distinct GPU models, not merely memory targets. Check the exact adapter under Task Manager > Performance > GPU or by running dxdiag and opening the Display tab.
Video-memory capacity can affect texture settings and whether a game has to move data through slower system memory, but it cannot be used alone to rank two cards. Architecture, driver support, cooling and power limits also matter. Integrated graphics are not listed in either tier, so an office laptop’s built-in GPU should be treated as unconfirmed rather than assumed to qualify.
DirectX
The minimum row calls for DirectX 11 and the recommended row calls for DirectX 12. DirectX is a collection of Windows graphics and system interfaces; it is not the same thing as the GPU model. Press Windows key + R, enter dxdiag, and read the DirectX Version field. A newer DirectX runtime does not make an old graphics card equivalent to the recommended hardware, and a card that supports the required API still needs an appropriate driver.
Storage
The listing currently allocates the same 20 GB of available space to both tiers. “Available” means free capacity at installation time, not the total size of the drive. Keep additional room for Windows updates, shader caches, save files and patches; the requirement may be revised before release. An SSD is not specified, so the official information does not establish an SSD requirement, but an SSD generally reduces loading and update times compared with a mechanical hard drive.

How to check whether your current PC qualifies
- Confirm Windows architecture. Go to Settings > System > About and verify a 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation.
- Record the processor. In the same About page, note the full CPU model. Compare the model with the appropriate row, paying attention to generation and core count rather than the brand name alone.
- Check installed RAM. Use Task Manager > Performance > Memory. Close demanding applications and note whether normal usage already consumes most of the available capacity.
- Identify the active GPU. In Task Manager’s Performance > GPU panel, record the model and dedicated video memory. On a laptop, distinguish the discrete adapter from integrated graphics and make sure the game can use the discrete adapter.
- Verify DirectX and drivers. Run
dxdiagto check the DirectX version, then install the latest stable graphics driver offered for your card before troubleshooting a launch problem. - Measure free storage. Open File Explorer > This PC, inspect the drive where you plan to install the game and confirm that the free-space figure exceeds the published allocation with room left for updates.
Compare every line, not just the graphics card. A PC with a qualifying GPU but an unsupported 32-bit operating system, insufficient RAM or an older CPU still falls short of the published configuration.
Do you need a new PC for HUMANKIND 2?
If your computer meets the recommended row
No immediate hardware change is indicated by the current listing. Keep Windows, chipset software and graphics drivers updated, and recheck the final requirements after release because the game is still in development.
If your computer meets only the minimum row
You may not need a complete replacement. First identify the limiting component. A memory upgrade is often simpler than changing a motherboard and processor, while a graphics upgrade may require a stronger power supply, additional case clearance or better cooling. Confirm compatibility with your motherboard, power supply and laptop design before buying parts.

A coordinated replacement can be more practical than piecemeal upgrades. The published targets span older processor platforms and newer graphics hardware, so mixing a very old CPU with a high-end replacement card can leave the simulation CPU-bound. Reuse only parts whose capacity, connectors and condition you have verified.

Desktop and laptop considerations
Desktop cards usually run closer to their model’s reference performance because they have higher power and cooling limits. Laptop versions can carry the same series name while using different power limits and performance levels. Check the complete laptop GPU designation, processor model and installed memory; do not infer capability from a family name alone.
For laptops with both integrated and discrete graphics, set the game’s executable to the high-performance GPU in Settings > System > Display > Graphics once the game is installed. Keep the power adapter connected during play and use the manufacturer’s performance mode if available. These steps do not turn unsupported hardware into supported hardware, but they prevent Windows from selecting a lower-power adapter accidentally.

They do not specify resolution, graphics presets, target frame rate, monitor refresh rate, ray-tracing features, multiplayer limits or save-file size. No independent FPS measurements or hardware tests have been published in the available official material. Avoid buying a component on the assumption that a particular card guarantees 60 frames per second; that claim would require testing under defined settings and campaign conditions.

The game is a historical, turn-based strategy title in which players guide a people from ancient times to the Modern Age, develop cities, trade and shape culture. Those systems explain why both processor capacity and memory are relevant, but they do not provide a benchmark. Performance can also change between an early scenario and a large, late campaign.

Release timing and requirement changes
Amplitude Studios currently lists a 2027 release window, and the requirements are therefore provisional. The studio has announced opportunities for players to try the game before launch, including an Insiders Program, and announced a gameplay reveal for 15 October 2026. Feedback and optimization work during development can lead to revised requirements, driver updates or changes to the installation footprint.
Before purchasing hardware solely for this game, check the official Steam listing again near launch. Treat any future change in operating system, CPU, GPU, memory, DirectX or storage as authoritative over this earlier snapshot.
Practical upgrade priorities
- Resolve platform blockers first: a 64-bit Windows installation and a supported DirectX-capable GPU are prerequisites.
- Match the graphics target: if your card is below the minimum examples, the GPU is the most obvious gap; compare the complete model and video-memory specification.
- Remove memory pressure: upgrade system RAM when normal multitasking leaves little free capacity.
- Check the processor for simulation workloads: a CPU below the listed examples can affect turn processing even when graphics settings are reduced.
- Reserve drive space: install on a drive with the required free capacity plus room for updates rather than filling it to the limit.
This order avoids spending on a graphics card while an operating-system, memory or processor limitation remains unresolved. Re-evaluate the plan when Amplitude publishes final launch specifications.

For the current HUMANKIND 2 PC specs, use the official minimum row only as a compatibility floor and aim for the recommended Windows 11, Core i7-6700/Ryzen 5 1500X, 12 GB RAM and GTX 1070/RX 5700 XT class when planning a dependable system. Because release is planned for 2027, verify the Steam listing again before buying hardware.
