For Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced on PC, treat the official minimum as a bootable floor, not a comfortable target. You need 64-bit Windows 10 or newer, an Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD FX-9590 processor, 8 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 1630 or Radeon RX 6400 graphics card with 4 GB of VRAM, and 105 GB of free space on an SSD. A more sensible buying target is Windows 11, a Core i5-9600K or Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB of RAM, an RTX 3060 or RX 6600 XT with 8 GB of VRAM, and an SSD that supports DirectStorage.
GTA V Legacy is a separate, less demanding PC installation. GTA VI currently has no published PC edition or PC requirements: Rockstar’s August 18, 2026 platform notice lists only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for pre-order. Any numeric GTA VI PC specification you see before an official announcement is speculation.
GTA V Enhanced: the official PC requirements
Rockstar’s Enhanced upgrade became available on PC on March 4, 2025 through the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, and Epic Games. The published requirements distinguish a minimum configuration from a recommended one. The minimum row describes hardware intended to start and run the game; the recommended row is the safer target when buying or upgrading a gaming PC.

These are the figures shown for the Enhanced PC listing. They are not a promise of a particular frame rate, resolution, graphics preset, or ray-tracing result. Your monitor, chosen settings, background applications, drivers, and the rest of the system affect performance.

What the minimum specification means
An i7-4770 or FX-9590 is an older processor by current standards, and 8 GB of RAM leaves little room for Windows and other software. Likewise, a GTX 1630 or RX 6400 with 4 GB of VRAM is a basic graphics tier. A system that only meets this row may need conservative resolution and quality settings, and it can be more sensitive to driver or background-process problems.
The minimum row is useful for checking whether an existing computer is in the supported class. It is a poor shopping target if you want several years of headroom or plan to run other demanding games at the same time.
Why the recommended row is the better target
The recommended configuration doubles system memory to 16 GB and moves to graphics cards with 8 GB of VRAM. The Core i5-9600K and Ryzen 5 3600 are also more practical pairings for a modern gaming build than the minimum-era CPUs. Choose this row when replacing a PC, selecting a prebuilt system, or deciding which parts to upgrade first.

Meeting the recommended row still does not guarantee a fixed frame rate. It identifies the hardware class Rockstar lists as recommended; actual results depend on the game’s graphics options and your display resolution.
How much storage does GTA V Enhanced need?
The published requirement is 105 GB of available storage, and the listing specifies an SSD rather than a hard disk drive. The same listing warns: “SSD Required | Over time downloadable content and programming changes will change the system requirements for this game.” In practice, 105 GB is the installation requirement shown today, not a promise that future updates will never need more room.

Do you need an NVMe SSD?
No particular SSD interface is named in the published minimum. A compatible SATA SSD satisfies the broad SSD requirement, while an NVMe SSD is a practical choice for a new build or upgrade because it is widely available in higher-capacity formats and works well as a general system drive. The recommended row additionally mentions DirectStorage compatibility, so check that your motherboard, operating system, and graphics hardware support the feature if you are building specifically around that recommendation.

Why a 1 TB drive is a sensible starting point
A 1 TB NVMe SSD is not a stated game requirement; it is a capacity recommendation for a whole gaming PC. It gives the 105 GB installation room for Windows, patches, temporary installation files, and other games. The useful question is not whether the game fits once, but whether the drive will still have free space when a large update arrives.

- Open Windows Settings and check the available capacity of the drive where your game library is located.
- Confirm that at least 105 GB is free before starting the Enhanced installation.
- Leave additional room for updates rather than filling the drive to the exact requirement.
- If the drive is nearly full, move or uninstall unused games, or add a larger SSD before beginning the download.
GTA V Legacy is a different PC installation
Do not apply the Enhanced table to every copy of GTA V. GTA V Legacy remains a separate PC installation with substantially lower published hardware requirements but a larger stated hard-drive-space figure.

The Legacy figures are minimum requirements, not a recommendation for a new gaming PC. Before troubleshooting or upgrading, look at your store library and confirm whether the entry is labelled Legacy or Enhanced. Installing the wrong edition can make an otherwise suitable PC appear to fail the requirements.

How to choose parts for an Enhanced-ready PC
Start with the graphics card and VRAM
For the recommended class, look for an RTX 3060 or RX 6600 XT with 8 GB of VRAM. The minimum class is a GTX 1630 or RX 6400 with 4 GB. Do not compare only the model number: verify the exact card, its VRAM capacity, power connector, and physical length. A card that meets the name requirement can still be incompatible with a small case or an underpowered power supply.
Install 16 GB of system memory
Eight gigabytes is the listed minimum, but 16 GB is the recommended amount and gives Windows more room while the game runs. Check whether your motherboard uses DDR4 or DDR5, how many memory slots are available, and whether an existing kit can be matched reliably. Buy a compatible kit rather than assuming every desktop memory module will fit.

The recommended processors use different motherboard platforms. Confirm the socket, chipset support, firmware requirements, and cooler compatibility before purchasing a CPU. A faster processor on an incompatible socket is not an upgrade unless the motherboard and often the memory are replaced as well.

Verify the SSD and motherboard slot
For an NVMe upgrade, check that the motherboard has an available M.2 slot of the correct key and length, and that installing it will not disable another connector. For a 2.5-inch SATA SSD, confirm a free SATA data port, a power lead, and a mounting location. Also check whether the drive will be used as the Windows boot drive or only as a game-library drive.
Check power, cooling, and clearance
- Confirm the power supply has enough capacity and the correct GPU connectors.
- Measure graphics-card length and thickness against the case.
- Make sure the CPU cooler fits the case and the motherboard socket.
- Update motherboard firmware and graphics drivers after installing new hardware.
What can prevent a qualifying PC from running the game?
Published requirements are necessary conditions, not a complete troubleshooting guide. If your parts meet the Enhanced row but the game will not launch, work through ordinary software checks before buying more hardware.
- Install current Windows updates and the latest driver for your graphics card.
- Restart the PC after driver or operating-system updates.
- Use the launcher’s file-verification or repair function to replace damaged game files.
- Close overlays, recording tools, and unnecessary background applications, then try again.
- Confirm that the game is installed on the SSD and that the drive has free space beyond the installation size.
- Check that the launcher is starting Enhanced rather than Legacy, especially if both entries appear in your library.
If the problem remains, compare your exact CPU, GPU, VRAM, RAM, Windows edition, and free SSD space with the table. A requirement mismatch in one component can be enough to cause failure, while a match does not rule out a driver, launcher, or damaged-file issue.

What PC will GTA VI need?
There is no official GTA VI PC specification to buy against. Rockstar’s customer-support platform article, updated August 18, 2026, says: “You can pre-order Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.” That notice does not publish a PC version, PC system requirements, or a PC storage requirement.
Consequently, console storage estimates, forum posts, retailer listings, and unofficial “minimum PC” charts cannot establish what a future PC release will require. Do not buy a particular CPU, GPU, or SSD solely on the assumption that it will run GTA VI. Build for the games you can verify today, and reassess when Rockstar announces PC platforms and specifications.
