There is no source-backed, all-purpose PC build for playable PS5 emulation yet. The hardware you need depends on the exact project and game. AnyPS5 publishes preliminary requirements for porting PS5 executables to Windows and Linux, while ShadPS5 describes an experimental emulator that is not ready for normal game play. Treat every published specification as an entry point, not a performance guarantee, and verify the game’s status before buying parts.
Why a universal PS5-emulation build does not exist
“PS5 emulation” currently describes projects with fundamentally different goals. One project can translate or relink a particular PS5 executable for another operating system; another attempts to recreate the behavior of the entire console. Their hardware requirements, compatibility, and evidence cannot be combined into one dependable shopping list.
The available project documentation also lacks independent cross-game benchmarks. A reported 60 frames per second in one simple 2D title does not show what a modern 3D game, an open-world game, or a different engine will require. Buying a high-end PC on the assumption that raw component speed will overcome incomplete software is therefore a financial risk.

AnyPS5: executable porting rather than full-console emulation
AnyPS5 describes a tool that automatically ports PS5 executables to Windows and Linux. It relinks game executables and supplies replacement system libraries. That workflow is different from emulating every component of a virtual PS5, so its requirements apply only to games and versions that its porting process supports.

Its published guidance calls for a 64-bit x86 processor from AMD or Intel, a Vulkan-capable graphics device, and at least 16 GB of RAM. It also documents a specific test: Dreaming Sarah reportedly reached 60 fps on a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti paired with an Intel Core i5-7500. That is a project test configuration for a simple 2D game, not a recommended graphics card for PS5 games generally.
ShadPS5: an experimental full emulator
ShadPS5 describes itself as an experimental PS5 emulator for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Its FAQ states that it is not yet ready to play games: some software may boot or render a frame or two, but the core emulation layer is still under development.
The FAQ gives provisional examples of an AVX2-capable CPU, a Vulkan graphics processor (with a GTX 1060 and Radeon RX 560 listed as examples), and 16 GB of memory. The project explicitly warns that these figures may change. They should be read as development guidance, not as a validated gaming configuration.
Do not reuse shadPS4 requirements
shadPS4 is a PlayStation 4 emulator. Its quick-start requirements describe PS4 emulation and do not establish what a PS5 emulator needs. A computer that meets a PS4 project’s minimum specification has not thereby been shown to run PS5 software.

What to buy if you are starting with an existing PC
Check the software and the game before replacing components. The following process avoids turning provisional requirements into an expensive guess.
- Name the exact project. Decide whether you are evaluating an AnyPS5 port or the experimental ShadPS5 emulator. Do not mix their requirement pages.
- Check the exact game’s status. Look for the title and version in the project’s current compatibility or test records. A listing that only boots, renders a menu, or shows a few frames is not evidence of sustained playability.
- Record your current specifications. Note the CPU model and AVX2 support, graphics API support and driver, installed RAM, free storage, and operating system. For AnyPS5, verify Vulkan 1.1 support; for ShadPS5, verify AVX2 and Vulkan against the current FAQ.
- Check the files. AnyPS5’s workflow needs a decrypted executable and its modules and resources. Confirm that your own legally obtained dump matches the supported game and version before considering an upgrade.
- Upgrade only the limiting part. If the machine lacks 16 GB of RAM, memory is the clearest documented capacity gap. If the GPU lacks the required Vulkan support, a graphics upgrade may be necessary. Neither change establishes that a particular game will become playable.
- Test after each change. Use the same game, build, operating-system settings, and resolution when comparing results. Separate a boot or rendered scene from sustained play, input response, and correct audio and graphics.
CPU: what the published requirements really mean
AnyPS5’s 64-bit x86 requirement means a compatible AMD or Intel desktop or laptop processor is the starting point. The project describes AMD Ryzen as the closest match to the PS5 processor and notes that Intel systems need an additional conversion flag. That is project-specific implementation guidance, not evidence that one Ryzen generation or one Intel tier will deliver a target frame rate.
For ShadPS5, AVX2 is listed as a provisional CPU capability. AVX2 support alone does not measure emulation speed; two AVX2 processors can differ substantially in single-thread performance, cache, power limits, and sustained clocks. Because the project is not yet ready for normal game play, there is no defensible “best CPU” class to purchase for it.
GPU: why a high-end card is not automatically the answer
AnyPS5 documents Vulkan 1.1 support and gives one concrete result: a GTX 1050 Ti with an i5-7500 reportedly ran Dreaming Sarah at 60 fps. The title is a simple 2D test, and the documentation does not establish its resolution, settings, or behavior in demanding games. It therefore cannot be used as a minimum or recommended GPU for the PS5 library.

ShadPS5’s GTX 1060 and RX 560 examples are provisional. They indicate the sort of Vulkan hardware the developers have in mind, not a guarantee that either card can play a specific title. Until the emulator publishes repeatable, cross-game tests, spending more on a flagship GPU may yield no benefit when the limiting factor is missing emulation code or an unsupported game.
RAM: the one capacity figure you can plan around
AnyPS5 advises 16 GB of RAM or more. Its requirements page warns that a Windows title may reserve up to 13,824 MiB, or 13.5 GiB, of direct memory. The Windows page file contributes to the system commit limit, so the reservation warning is about available committed memory, not a claim that every title will consume exactly that amount or run well with 16 GB.
Use 16 GB as a documented entry point. Leave room for the operating system and background applications, and check whether your motherboard and operating system can address the installed capacity. Adding RAM can prevent a capacity shortfall, but it cannot solve an unsupported executable, missing Vulkan support, or incomplete emulator implementation.
Storage, operating system, and input requirements
Storage
Keep space for the game dump and for shader-cache growth during the first play session. The AnyPS5 requirements do not state a minimum disk size or require a particular SSD interface. Choose capacity from the size of the game files, expected cache growth, operating-system usage, and your normal free-space margin rather than from an invented PS5-emulation number.

Operating system
AnyPS5’s workflow describes Windows and Linux. ShadPS5 describes Windows, Linux, and macOS, but its experimental status applies on all three. Confirm that the current project build supports your operating-system version and graphics driver before buying a component.
Input
AnyPS5 documents SDL-mapped controller support. A compatible PC controller can make testing more practical, but it is optional convenience hardware and has no effect on emulation performance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Three sensible buying scenarios
| Your situation | Practical approach | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You already own a 64-bit PC with 16 GB RAM and Vulkan support. | Check the exact game’s status and required files first; test before upgrading. | The published thresholds may already be met, while compatibility remains uncertain. |
| You are buying a PC specifically for one AnyPS5-supported game. | Use the project’s current requirements and the documented test configuration only as a baseline, then budget for the complete system. | The GTX 1050 Ti/i5-7500 result applies only to Dreaming Sarah, not to other games. |
| You want broad access through ShadPS5. | Wait for compatibility and performance evidence rather than purchasing to the provisional FAQ. | The project says it is not yet ready for playing games and that its hardware figures may change. |
Common purchasing mistakes
- Treating a minimum as a target. “16 GB” and “Vulkan 1.1” describe prerequisites in AnyPS5’s guidance, not a frame-rate guarantee.
- Generalizing one benchmark. The 60-fps Dreaming Sarah result is not a demanding-game test and does not validate the GTX 1050 Ti for other titles.
- Combining project requirements. AnyPS5’s porting workflow and ShadPS5’s full-emulation work solve different technical problems.
- Ignoring software status. A powerful computer cannot make an emulator feature that has not been implemented, or a game with no compatible dump, work.
- Confusing a boot with a playable result. Menus, a rendered frame, sustained gameplay, correct audio, input response, and stable performance are separate milestones.
- Using PS4 specifications as PS5 evidence. shadPS4 documentation is for a different console generation.
A pre-purchase checklist
- Write down the exact emulator or porting project and its current version.
- Confirm the exact game and version appears in current compatibility or test records.
- Verify 64-bit x86 support; check AVX2 when evaluating ShadPS5.
- Verify Vulkan support, including Vulkan 1.1 for AnyPS5’s stated requirement.
- Install at least 16 GB of RAM, understanding that capacity is not a performance promise.
- Reserve storage for the decrypted dump, shader cache, operating system, and free-space headroom.
- Confirm the operating system, graphics driver, decrypted executable, modules, and resources are supported.
- Price the complete upgrade, including memory, graphics, storage, and any needed platform changes.
- Prefer waiting over buying a high-end part solely on an unsupported expectation of PS5 compatibility.
Bottom line for 2026 buyers
The safest purchase is not a particular CPU or GPU; it is a verified match between a project, a game, and documented evidence. AnyPS5 currently offers the clearest entry guidance—64-bit x86, Vulkan 1.1, and 16 GB or more of RAM—plus one simple-game test using a GTX 1050 Ti and i5-7500. ShadPS5 remains experimental, lists AVX2, Vulkan graphics, and 16 GB provisionally, and says it is not ready for game play. Until either project publishes broad, repeatable performance data, buy only after checking the exact title and treat hardware thresholds as prerequisites rather than promises.
