Revolut CEO and co-founder Nik Storonsky says he wants to build a global technology company from Europe—one comparable in ambition to Meta, Google or OpenAI. The plans he described extend beyond banking into AI agents, finance tools and infrastructure, but they are plans, not proof that Revolut has reached those companies’ scale or that the proposed features are widely available.
What did Storonsky say about Revolut’s ambition?
At the Wave by Vento innovation event in Turin on Oct. 9, 2026, Storonsky told Exor CEO John Elkann that his “European dream” was to build a global technology company like Meta, Google or OpenAI, but born in Europe. The Next Web reported his remarks; la Repubblica also covered the event and rendered the comparison as including Anthropic.
The comparison describes a destination, not a claim that Revolut already matches the reach, business mix or influence of those technology companies. Storonsky said the company should evolve into something much bigger than it is today, according to ANSA’s event report.

What AI and technology plans did he describe?
The reported ideas place AI around financial activity and customer services rather than describing a move into an unrelated technology business. They include agents that could make purchases for customers, analyze personal finances, and suggest stocks or investment funds. Storonsky also described proprietary AI models trained on transaction data, company data-centre capacity, and a way for outside agents to interact with Revolut agents when customers authorize it.

These are reported plans and descriptions, not confirmation of a general launch, a delivery schedule, or independently established performance. The event reports do not provide a complete security design for agents with access to financial accounts. Customer authorization is part of the described approach, but authorization alone does not answer questions such as what actions an agent may take, how those actions are reviewed, or how mistakes and fraud are handled.
How much of this is already demonstrated?
Revolut is an app-based financial technology company offering digital banking, payments, currency exchange, savings and investments, as la Repubblica describes it. That gives its proposed AI features an obvious financial context, but an ambition to become a broader technology company should be judged separately from its existing services and any future product announcements.

La Repubblica reported about 80 million Revolut customers in its Oct. 9, 2026 account of the discussion. That is a figure reported by the newspaper, not an independently audited count established by the coverage. In a separate interview, La Stampa reported Storonsky’s claims that 90% of customer support was fully automated, around 200 engineers and data scientists worked on fraud, and more than 20 models analyzed transactions. Those are company claims attributed to Storonsky, not independent evaluations of quality or effectiveness. The same La Stampa account mentions annual revenue of 6 billion but does not specify the currency or reporting period in the available account, so it is not a reliable basis for comparing company size.

Why does Storonsky emphasize Europe and the United States?
The ambition is explicitly about building a global technology company from Europe. That describes the company’s intended origin and identity; it does not by itself establish where its products operate or how successfully they will expand. ANSA reported Storonsky’s view that the United States is important to global growth and that products need adaptation to local customer needs.

In La Stampa’s interview, Storonsky argued that Europe’s many markets, languages and regulatory differences, alongside constraints involving capital access and talent, make rapid scaling harder than in the United States. These are his explanations of the challenge, not a settled measure of what Revolut can achieve. The strategic test is whether it can adapt services across markets while building a coherent, trusted product—not simply whether it is European-born.
