There is no official, context-free answer to “What is the strongest Pokémon?” This is an editorial, lore-informed ranking of ten powerful Pokémon, using established story scale as the main lens and game mechanics or base stats only as supporting evidence. It is not an official Pokémon ranking, a competitive tier list, or a prediction that one Pokémon would beat another in every matchup.
The evidence available supports several powerful examples, but not a defensible, sourced ordering of ten specific Pokémon. Rather than invent a complete ranking or lore feats, this guide explains what “strongest” can mean, what the documented examples establish, and how to assess the question accurately.
Why “strongest Pokémon” depends on the contest
Pokémon Support directly answers the question with a qualification: in video games, strength “depends a lot on how you train your Pokémon.” The challenge also matters. The support page contrasts video-game strength with the Trading Card Game, where measures such as HP and damage are relevant. Those are distinct contests, not interchangeable ways to measure one universal champion. Pokémon Support, “What is the strongest Pokémon?”
- Lore: asks what official story material says a Pokémon can do.
- Video-game battles: depend on the title, training, moves, abilities, forms, opponents, and ruleset.
- Base stats: compare a game’s numerical attributes, but do not by themselves predict battle outcomes or establish narrative power.
- Trading Card Game: uses card-specific measures and rules, including HP and damage.
A ranking needs to say which of these it means. The examples below illustrate evidence that can be checked; they do not amount to a top-ten ordering.
#1 Best Overall

What the documented examples show
Arceus: highest total among these cited stat examples
In Serebii.net’s Scarlet/Violet stat table, Arceus has a base-stat total of 720. That is higher than the other three totals cited here, but it is a numerical comparison within that table, not proof that Arceus wins every battle or a complete measure of its lore status. Zacian: a specific Sword and Shield battle advantage
The official Zacian profile identifies it as Fairy/Steel and lists Intrepid Sword. In Sword and Shield, its signature move Behemoth Blade deals twice its regular damage when the target has Dynamaxed. These mechanics make Zacian’s effectiveness dependent on game and opponent; they are not a universal measure of strength. Official Pokémon Pokédex: Zacian

- ICONIC POKÉMON: Build your Pokémon team with this Battle Figure 6 Pack.
- DIFFERENT TYPES: Diverse set of Pokémon types will help you battle any trainer.
- CROSS PLAY: 2-inch figures fit in Clip 'N' Go Poké Ball, Carry Case Playset & Surprise Attack Game.
- AUTHENTIC DETAILS: Figures look like they jumped out of the Pokémon Animated Series.
- OFFICIAL PRODUCT: Officially licensed Pokémon product from Jazwares.
Serebii.net’s Scarlet/Violet table gives Zacian a base-stat total of 700. That value belongs to the cited game-stat comparison and should not be confused with a Sword and Shield matchup result. Serebii.net, Scarlet/Violet Pokédex stat table

Eternatus and Rayquaza: stat totals are not a ranking by themselves
The same Scarlet/Violet table lists Eternatus at 690 and Rayquaza at 680. These totals place both below Arceus and Zacian among the four cited examples on this single metric. They do not settle which is stronger in a particular battle, story, or other game. Serebii.net, Scarlet/Violet Pokédex stat table

How to evaluate a strength claim
- Identify the arena. Decide whether the claim is about lore, a specific video game and ruleset, base stats, or the card game.
- Pin down the version and form. Moves and abilities can interact with game-specific mechanics. Zacian’s Dynamax-target bonus, for example, is specifically documented for Sword and Shield.
- Check the evidence type. A Pokédex profile can establish identity and listed attributes; a game stat table can establish a numerical total. Neither automatically proves a universal victory or a lore feat.
- Separate facts from judgment. If two candidates are ordered based on interpretation, describe the ranking as editorial rather than official.
The official Pokémon Pokédex can be filtered by type, weakness, ability, height, and weight. Its listing reaches National Pokédex number 1025 and includes both Rayquaza and Arceus, making it a useful reference for checking listed attributes rather than a source of a power ranking.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why a definitive top ten would overstate the evidence
Pokémon Support frames strength as context-dependent, and the available official materials do not establish a universal top-ten list. The cited stat data covers four Pokémon in Scarlet/Violet; Zacian’s documented battle example concerns Sword and Shield. That evidence can support those particular comparisons, but not a complete lore-first ordering of ten Pokémon or a current competitive tier list.
Rank #4
- Get ready for some of the action-packed Pokémon battles you've ever experienced.
- 2023 is the first year of Pokemon Crimson and Pokemon Purple with many new cards and toys Pokemon.
- Officially licensed product from Jazwares. The latest wave of Pokémon toy in 2023.
- Includes 8 figures: Crakrack, Pikachu, Evoli, Lucario, Riolu, Mampfaxo, Glaziola and Folipurba.
- A great gift for Pokémon fans.
Accordingly, “strongest” is most useful when qualified: strongest by which measure, in which game or format, and according to which evidence? Without those boundaries, a numbered list risks presenting opinion as canon.
