For certain LG OLED TV models covered by LG’s U.S.-only 2025 limited warranty card, the OLED panel is covered for parts and labor during the first year after the original retail purchase. In years two through five, the card provides coverage for the OLED display panel but says the owner will be charged for labor. The card does not explicitly name burn-in as either covered or excluded, so it does not guarantee that a particular burn-in claim will be approved.
Those terms apply only to the models listed on the card and qualifying purchases and use in the United States, including U.S. territories. Check the warranty paperwork for your exact TV before relying on them.

Which LG OLED TVs qualify for the five-year panel terms?
The U.S.-only 2025 limited warranty card lists these model families and sizes: G1, G2, G3, G4, G5, 77Z2, 77Z3, 77/83M3, 65/77/83M4, and 65/77/83M5. A model’s family name alone is not enough to establish coverage: confirm the full model number against the card and the warranty documents supplied with your television.

LG’s U.S. support page for the OLED83G5WUA gives the same summary: one year of parts and labor, followed by years two through five of panel coverage with labor charged. That is a model-specific example, not evidence that every LG OLED has identical terms.
What is covered in each year?
The warranty card describes coverage for defects in materials or workmanship under normal and proper use. Its schedule distinguishes the first year from the following four years:
| Period from original retail purchase | Covered component described by LG | Parts and labor treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | Internal and functional parts, including the OLED display panel | Parts and labor are covered |
| Years 2–5 | OLED display panel | Panel coverage applies; the customer is charged for labor |
The table reflects the listed models and the U.S. 2025 card. It does not mean that every part of the TV is covered for five years, or that all repair costs are paid after the first year. The card’s panel wording specifically says “You will be charged for labor” in years two through five. It does not state a labor price, establish that every service visit will have the same charge, or promise a particular repair method.

The card’s wording gives LG the choice of remedy; it is not a promise that a panel will always be replaced, nor does the card establish how LG will resolve a particular symptom.
Does LG’s OLED warranty cover burn-in?
The 2025 card does not use the word “burn-in.” It also does not say that every burn-in claim is covered or that all burn-in is excluded. Instead, it sets a general standard: a failure must result from a defect in materials or workmanship under normal and proper use. Whether a specific persistent image meets that standard depends on the circumstances and LG’s assessment under the applicable warranty.

That distinction matters because seeing a static image on an OLED screen does not, by itself, establish why it appeared or whether the warranty standard is met. Avoid assuming either that ordinary viewing automatically makes a claim eligible or that any visible remnant is automatically excluded. The written warranty language and the circumstances of the individual claim matter.
The card lists exclusions related to causes or use conditions, including use outside normal intended use, improper installation or operation, misuse, abuse, improper maintenance, and non-household use such as commercial, office, or store-display use. These exclusions are reasons to read the actual terms carefully; they do not supply a blanket verdict for every case of image persistence.

Burn-in and temporary image retention are not the same thing
LG’s troubleshooting guidance distinguishes temporary image retention from burn-in. Image retention can look like a faint ghost image and often fades after a moment or two. Burn-in lasts longer and may remain visible while other content is playing. That description can help you characterize what you see, but it is not a warranty decision or a change to the limited warranty.
LG identifies prolonged display of static channel logos, leaving a paused video game on screen, and prolonged use of vivid mode or very high brightness as possible contributors to burn-in. If an image appears, note what it looks like, whether it fades, and whether it remains visible on other content. Those observations can make a support conversation clearer, but they do not determine eligibility on their own.
How to prepare a warranty claim
Gather the documentation and describe the problem before returning the television. LG’s card requires the original sales invoice specifying the product and purchase date. It also says to obtain an RMA before returning a product. The card states that LG bears inbound and outbound shipping under this limited warranty.

- Confirm the model and purchase details. Find the full model number and purchase date, then compare them with the applicable warranty card. Check that the purchaser and purchase/use location meet the card’s stated terms.
- Locate the original sales invoice. Make sure it identifies the product and the date of purchase, as required by the card. Keep a copy available when you contact LG.
- Describe the display symptom precisely. State what image remains, whether it fades after a short time, how long it has persisted, and whether it is visible while other content is displayed. Avoid presenting a suspected cause as a confirmed diagnosis.
- Ask LG to assess the claim under the exact warranty. If the TV is in years two through five, ask how the panel coverage and labor charge apply to the proposed service. The card states that labor is charged during those years but does not give a price.
- Do not ship the TV without an RMA. The card requires an RMA before return. Follow the return instructions provided for the approved claim rather than arranging shipment independently.
Keep any support correspondence and service paperwork with the invoice. The card establishes the proof-of-purchase requirement and return authorization requirement, but it does not specify a claim decision timeline, a required diagnostic test, or a particular repair location. Ask LG about those details for your case.
What can you do to reduce the risk of burn-in?
LG’s prevention guidance describes several built-in measures and operating habits. They are intended to reduce risk or address display maintenance; they do not extend the warranty or promise that burn-in will be covered.
- Limit prolonged static content. Avoid leaving a channel logo or paused game on screen for extended periods when you can change or turn off the display.
- Use a less intense picture setting when appropriate. LG identifies prolonged vivid mode or very high brightness as possible causes. Consider a less intense setting for long viewing sessions if it suits your room.
- Allow the screen saver to activate. LG says a screen saver turns on after approximately two minutes without user activity on a No Signal screen or paused video. The delay may be shorter in built-in apps.
- Understand automatic pixel maintenance. LG says pixel cleaning runs automatically after every four cumulative hours of use. After 2,000 cumulative hours, Pixel Refresher runs when the TV is turned off and takes about an hour.
- Use manual controls only as needed. LG says users can manually run Pixel Refresher and adjust logo brightness to High, Low, or Off. Refer to the instructions for your TV model if you need the control path; the guidance summarized here does not specify a universal menu path.
The figures of approximately two minutes, four cumulative hours, 2,000 cumulative hours, and about an hour are operating guidance stated by LG. They are not statistics about how often OLED burn-in occurs or how often claims are accepted. LG’s cited warranty and troubleshooting materials do not publish a burn-in incidence rate or claim-approval rate.
How to interpret the warranty without overpromising
There are two separate questions in a burn-in case: whether the TV has a persistent display problem and whether that problem qualifies under the applicable warranty. LG’s troubleshooting material helps distinguish temporary image retention from longer-lasting burn-in and explains prevention features. The warranty card sets the defect-based standard, its time periods, and exclusions. Troubleshooting guidance is not a warranty amendment, and it cannot substitute for LG’s evaluation of a claim.
Likewise, “five-year panel warranty” is an incomplete shorthand if it leads you to expect five years of free repair. For the card’s listed models, year one includes parts and labor; years two through five cover the OLED panel with labor charged. A separate extended-service plan is another document with its own terms. LG’s G5 support page lists LG Premium Care plans as a support option, but the warranty card’s five-year terms should not be merged with any separately purchased plan.
If your exact model or warranty version differs from the listed card, do not infer its burn-in terms from a related TV. Read the supplied warranty and ask LG to identify the terms that apply to the full model number and purchase. That is especially important for televisions bought outside the United States, products used outside the card’s stated region, and claims involving commercial or display use.
