ISPConfig 3 is open-source control-panel software for administering Linux hosting services. It can manage one server or several from a single web interface, with separate access levels for administrators, resellers, and clients. It does not provide the server or hosting itself: you supply and maintain the Linux environment and the services ISPConfig configures.
What is ISPConfig 3?
The ISPConfig project describes it as an open-source hosting control panel for Linux and publishes it under a BSD license. In practical terms, it provides a web interface for managing hosting accounts and server services that would otherwise be configured through separate tools or directly on the server. See the official ISPConfig 3 documentation for the project’s overview.
ISPConfig can administer a single server, or coordinate multiple servers through one control panel. A multiserver setup is optional; it can be useful when services or administration need to be divided across machines. The project says it can be installed on physical servers and virtual machines.
What can you manage with ISPConfig?
The project’s published feature list covers common hosting tasks and the services used to provide them. The exact daemons present depend on the configuration; the list does not mean every component must be installed in every setup. The official services and functions page describes the supported service areas.

Who is ISPConfig for?
ISPConfig’s account structure is designed for three kinds of users:
- Administrators manage server-level settings and hosting services.
- Resellers administer hosting accounts within the permissions and limits assigned to them.
- Clients manage the services and accounts made available to them.
This hierarchy can support a hosting operation that needs to delegate account administration. A person managing only one server can use the panel too; multiple servers are not a prerequisite.

Which operating systems does ISPConfig support?
At the time of the project pages consulted on October 7, 2026, the services page listed Debian 11–13 and Ubuntu 22.04–24.04 as recommended distributions, as well as AlmaLinux 8–10, Rocky Linux 8–10, and CentOS 8. The documentation specifically recommends Debian and links to an autoinstaller guide for Debian 11–13 and Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04.
These version ranges can change. Check the project’s current supported-distributions and services page and its current installation documentation before choosing an operating system or following installation instructions. Older archived guides may describe outdated versions or packages.

How do you install and update ISPConfig 3?
Installation is a server-administration task, not just adding an application to a desktop. You need a compatible Linux server—physical or virtual—and must prepare and maintain its operating environment and hosting services. The official documentation recommends Debian and points readers to an autoinstaller guide for the listed Debian and Ubuntu releases. Use that current guide for its prerequisites and steps; do not assume a guide for another release still applies.
For an existing installation, the official download page identifies ispconfig_update.sh as the update script and says to run it from the server shell as root. Follow the project’s current update guide for the applicable procedure and precautions rather than treating the script name alone as a complete update process.

What is the current ISPConfig version?
On October 7, 2026, the official download page listed ISPConfig 3.3.2p1 as the current version. Version listings change, so verify the official download page for the release currently available.

The project’s ISPConfig 3.3 announcement highlights dashboard and monitoring graphs for load, memory, and network transfer; PostgreSQL website-database support alongside MySQL and MariaDB; Let’s Encrypt certificate cleanup and ECC certificate support; matching PHP versions for websites and associated shell users; an extension installer; automatic nightly backups of configuration and database; and MySQL 8+ sha2_caching_password support. What ISPConfig 3 does not provide
ISPConfig is not a hosting company, cloud provider, domain registrar, or substitute for a Linux server. It is software for configuring and administering services on servers you provide. You remain responsible for selecting the environment, deploying and securing the service stack, and maintaining it. Its multiserver capability coordinates administration; it does not supply additional machines.
