There is no defensible five-item ranking in the available price records: the answer changes depending on whether you compare launch prices, maximum build-to-order configurations, or inflation-adjusted dollars. The clearest example is Apple’s 2019 Mac Pro, whose reported top configurations reached about $52,599–$52,748, while Apple’s announcement did not publish either checkout total. Historical prices below are useful reference points, not a verified all-time top five.
Why there is no reliable top five from these prices
“Most expensive” can mean several different things: a computer’s standard launch price, its highest configurable price, or its price converted into today’s dollars. These are not interchangeable measures. A build-to-order workstation can cost far more than its base model, while inflation adjustment can change the order of older products.
The records available here establish several notable prices, but not five products ranked under one consistent method. In particular, they do not supply inflation-adjusted calculations or enough comparable model prices to establish an all-time top five. The figures that follow are therefore dated examples, not a ranked list.

| Product and date | Reported price | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Lisa, 1983 | $9,995 | Macworld’s secondary historical account reports this as the Lisa’s launch price; a primary Apple source is not established here. |
| Power Mac G4, February 2000 | $1,599–$3,499 | Apple’s listed range for Power Mac G4 configurations at the time. |
| Macintosh Server G4, February 2000 | $2,999–$4,199 | Apple’s listed range for server configurations, a separate product line from the Power Mac G4. |
| Power Mac G4 Cube, July 2000 | $1,799 (450 MHz); $2,299 (500 MHz) | Apple announced both prices; the 500 MHz configuration was to be available through the Apple Store. |
| Mac Pro, 2019 | About $52,599–$52,748 | Contemporary secondary reports calculated maximum configurations. The totals vary with options and accessory assumptions; they are not standard retail prices. |
What the 2019 Mac Pro totals include—and why they differ
Apple’s June 3, 2019 announcement described the Mac Pro’s capabilities and high-end configuration, but it did not state a $52,000-plus checkout price. MacRumors reported a maximum configuration of $52,599 including $400 wheels. Macworld reported $52,748 excluding a display. Those are separate secondary calculations based on configuration and accessory choices, not two interchangeable official Apple prices.

How to interpret older prices
Lisa: a high historical price, with a source qualification
The $9,995 Lisa figure is reported by Macworld as the price at launch in 1983. It is a useful historical reference, but the figure is supported here by secondary reporting rather than a corroborating primary Apple source. It should not be treated as a precisely verified comparison against later models.

Power Mac and Server G4: distinguish the product lines
Apple’s February 2000 figures show Power Mac G4 configurations up to $3,499 and Macintosh Server G4 configurations up to $4,199. The server price belongs to a distinct product line; counting it as simply another consumer desktop would blur the comparison.
G4 Cube: two announced configurations
Apple announced the 450 MHz Cube at $1,799 and the 500 MHz configuration at $2,299 in July 2000. The higher price applies to the specified 500 MHz configuration, not to every G4 Cube.

What can be concluded
The documented figures show why the 2019 Mac Pro stands out when the measure is an extensively upgraded configuration: secondary reports put it above $52,000, with the final total depending on options and whether wheels are counted. They do not establish that it is the most expensive Apple computer under every definition, nor do they support a ranked list of five. A fair comparison would need one pricing rule applied consistently across products, with each date, configuration, and included accessory stated.
