The NVIDIA GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchip combines one Grace CPU and two Blackwell GPUs in a single computing component. It connects them with NVLink-C2C, which NVIDIA specifies at 900 GB/s of bidirectional bandwidth and describes as providing coherent access to a unified memory space. The GB200 NVL72, by contrast, is a full rack-scale system built from many such components—not another name for one superchip.
What does “Grace Blackwell Superchip” mean?
“Grace Blackwell Superchip” refers to NVIDIA’s GB200 CPU-and-GPU component: one NVIDIA Grace CPU connected to two NVIDIA Blackwell Tensor Core GPUs. NVIDIA describes it as a key component of its GB200 NVL72 system. The name therefore identifies the combined processor configuration, not the entire rack.
The design brings a CPU and GPUs together as a tightly connected computing unit. The CPU and GPUs remain distinct processors, but the high-bandwidth connection is intended to let them exchange data and access memory coherently. NVIDIA’s GB200 NVL Multi-Node Tuning Guide describes the superchip and its NVLink-C2C connection.

How is the GB200 different from the GB200 NVL72?
The key distinction is scale: GB200 names the one-CPU, two-GPU superchip configuration, while GB200 NVL72 names a rack-scale system containing 36 Grace CPUs and 72 Blackwell GPUs. Those are totals for the system, not the contents of one superchip. NVIDIA’s GB200 NVL72 product page and DGX GB Rack Scale Systems User Guide describe the larger system.

How do the CPU and GPUs communicate?
NVLink-C2C connects the Grace CPU to the two Blackwell GPUs. NVIDIA specifies its bandwidth as 900 GB/s bidirectional and says it enables coherent access to a unified memory space. In practical terms, the architecture is designed to allow the processors to share data through a high-bandwidth, memory-coherent connection rather than treating them as unrelated devices.
This interconnect figure describes NVLink-C2C within the superchip. It is distinct from the separate NVLink bandwidth figure NVIDIA lists for the GB200 product configuration. The numbers refer to different connections and should not be read as interchangeable.

What is the Blackwell architecture designed to do?
Blackwell includes a second-generation Transformer Engine and FP4 support. NVIDIA says the Transformer Engine combines Blackwell Tensor Core technology with software innovations to accelerate large language model and mixture-of-experts training and inference. That describes the platform’s intended capabilities; it does not guarantee a particular application’s speed or performance.
Likewise, NVIDIA’s comparisons for NVL72 training and inference depend on stated workload and system assumptions. Treat them as vendor claims tied to those conditions, not as universal or independently verified results. NVIDIA’s GB200 NVL72 announcement provides context for its stated use cases.
