The United Arab Emirates had the fastest mobile internet among countries in Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index for June 2026, with a median download speed of 760.93 Mbps. That result is for mobile broadband—not fixed broadband, an individual carrier’s peak speed, or every user’s actual connection.
What “fastest network” means in this ranking
There is no single answer across every kind of network. Country rankings distinguish mobile broadband from fixed broadband, and the result depends on the statistic and measurement period. Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index publishes monthly country rankings for both categories. Its displayed June 2026 mobile table ranks countries by median download speed; it does not identify a universal winner across all networks.
For June 2026, the mobile-country result is clear: the United Arab Emirates ranked first at 760.93 Mbps median download speed. This is a country-level speed-test statistic, not a theoretical maximum or a promise about what any one customer will receive. See Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index.

The United Arab Emirates’ country median and the global figures below are different measures. The first is a median for one country and one category in Ookla’s June 2026 table; the latter are global averages published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the first half of 2025, based on user-generated Speedtest by Ookla data.

The global averages provide context, not a competing country ranking: they cover all countries in the reported global measure and use averages rather than the UAE’s country median. The ITU’s figures come from user-generated Speedtest by Ookla data. Read the ITU Global Connectivity Report 2025.
Does mobile or fixed broadband have the fastest network?
The available June 2026 result establishes the leading country for mobile broadband, but it does not establish the latest fixed-broadband country leader. Nor does it identify the fastest individual operator worldwide. Those are separate comparisons, and the UAE mobile result cannot answer them.

For a meaningful comparison, keep four details attached to any speed figure:
- Connection type: mobile broadband or fixed broadband.
- Statistic: a country median, a global average, or a network’s peak rate.
- Period: the time window covered by the result.
- Geography: a single country or a worldwide aggregate.
What the speed figures do—and don’t—tell you
A ranking result is not a theoretical maximum
Ookla’s country table reports speed-test performance, not the highest speed a network could theoretically deliver. An individual’s experience can differ from a country-level result because the ranking is an aggregate, not a measurement of that person’s service.

Rankings use a defined time window
Ookla says its index is updated mid-month using results from the previous three months. It also says location inclusion has used its Precision Threshold since June 2024. Read the June 2026 result as a dated ranking built under that method, not as a timeless record or a reading taken at one instant. Ookla explains the index and its methodology.
Fixed-broadband measurements can depend on the test setup
The ITU cautions that fixed broadband speed tests run on mobile devices connected through Wi-Fi may underestimate fixed broadband performance. A reported test result therefore reflects the measurement setup as well as the connection; it is not necessarily the line’s full capability. The ITU report discusses its measurement context.

Why the global leader is not everyone’s baseline
In the first half of 2025, low-income economies’ reported speeds were 30% of high-income economies’ mobile speeds and 20% of their fixed speeds, according to the ITU. Those gaps show why a top country’s result should not be treated as representative of access around the world. The comparison describes income-group differences in that period; it does not predict the speed available to a particular household or mobile user.
