For AT&T Internet and Fiber, the box that connects your home to the broadband network and provides Wi-Fi is called a Wi-Fi gateway. AT&T Internet Air uses a different device called an All-Fi Hub. The exact model depends on your service and installation, so check the label on your equipment rather than assuming every AT&T customer has the same box.
What AT&T calls its internet box
“AT&T Wi-Fi gateway” is the general name for the home device used with AT&T Internet or Fiber. It links your home to AT&T’s broadband network and supplies the home’s Wi-Fi connection. For AT&T Internet Air, the corresponding equipment is called an All-Fi Hub. AT&T’s internet equipment guide describes these service-specific devices.
AT&T lists BGW320, BGW210, Pace 5268, NVG599, and NVG589 among common Wi-Fi gateway models, while noting that other models may be in use. The name “gateway” is the clearest general term; identify a specific model only after checking its label.
How the gateway differs from a fiber jack or ONT
With fiber service, the gateway may connect to a fiber jack or to a separate Optical Network Terminal (ONT). These are not interchangeable names for the gateway:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Wi-Fi gateway: Connects the home to AT&T broadband and provides Wi-Fi.
- ONT: Converts fiber-optic light signals into electrical signals, then sends the signal to the gateway over Ethernet.
- Fiber jack: The installed connection point used for AT&T Fiber.
Depending on the installation, a BGW320 may connect to a fiber jack with a green-tipped fiber cable or to an external ONT with a red-tipped Ethernet cable. AT&T’s BGW320 setup guide covers both arrangements. AT&T says installed ONTs and fiber jacks should not be removed; do not unplug or relocate those components as if they were ordinary accessories.
How to identify your equipment and connection
- Look for the model number on the device label. AT&T gateway models vary, and the label is more reliable than identifying the unit by appearance alone.
- Note your service type: AT&T Internet or Fiber generally uses a Wi-Fi gateway; Internet Air uses an All-Fi Hub.
- If you have a BGW320 on Fiber, check whether it connects through a green-tipped cable to a fiber jack or a red-tipped Ethernet cable to an external ONT. Follow the setup instructions for the connection actually installed in your home.
AT&T’s BGW320 setup instructions direct customers to use the Smart Home Manager app and their AT&T account for guided setup. The BGW320 is also called an All-Fi Hub on that setup page, but that does not mean every AT&T customer receives a BGW320.

What the BGW320 ports do
Port details below apply specifically to the BGW320, not to every AT&T gateway. According to AT&T’s BGW320 FAQ:
Recommended Free Tools
| BGW320 connection | Function or stated capacity |
|---|---|
| Yellow Ethernet ports | Support up to 1,000 Mbps, according to AT&T. |
| Blue Ethernet ports | Support up to 5,000 Mbps, according to AT&T. |
| Red ONT Ethernet port | Connects the BGW320 to AT&T Fiber; it is not a port for customer devices. |
The figures describe the ports’ stated capacities, not a promise of the internet speed available to your home. Service plan, equipment, and other conditions affect actual performance.

Using the app and improving Wi-Fi coverage
For supported AT&T customers, Smart Home Manager can show the Wi-Fi password, let you change the network name, list connected devices, run a speed test, set parental controls, and help troubleshoot. Those are app features—not functions performed solely by the physical gateway. Check AT&T’s Smart Home Manager information for service and account eligibility.
If coverage is weak in part of the home, an extender may help, but compatibility and eligibility matter. AT&T says its Extended Wi-Fi Service includes an AirTies 4971 extender for eligible Internet customers; older AirTies 4920 and 4921 units may also be in use. The BGW320 FAQ confirms that an AT&T Wi-Fi extender can expand coverage and advises customers to check eligibility. Verify that the extender is supported for your service and gateway rather than assuming any model will work.

Placement, cables, and moving the gateway
A BGW320 can be moved only within reach of the fiber or Ethernet service cable connected to it. Moving it beyond that cable’s reach requires a technician appointment, according to AT&T’s BGW320 FAQ. Do not disconnect the red ONT cable or remove a fiber jack or ONT to reposition the equipment.
AT&T says internet equipment is supplied with Cat 6 Ethernet cables and recommends Category 6 or better if you need a replacement. You do not need to buy a cable unless you need an additional wired connection or a replacement.

Understanding BGW320 status lights
Light meanings are model-specific. Use AT&T’s BGW320 LED guide for the exact light pattern; a red light does not always mean the gateway has failed.
- Solid red service light, WPS light off: AT&T identifies overheating as a possible cause. Place the gateway on a flat, ventilated surface.
- Solid red service and WPS lights: AT&T indicates a possible hardware issue. Reboot the gateway; if the problem remains, seek a replacement through AT&T.
- Fast-blinking red: May indicate a network service issue. Check for an outage.
- Slow-blinking red: Indicates no broadband connection. Check for an outage and inspect the cable for looseness or damage; reboot as applicable.
- Amber: Can indicate startup or an update in progress.
These directions concern the BGW320. Do not apply them to another model without checking its own status-light guide.
Returning AT&T equipment
AT&T says supplied gateways and power supplies must be returned when service is canceled. Check AT&T’s current return instructions for the process that applies to your account. The equipment is generally provided as part of service, so do not assume a used AT&T gateway is a suitable standalone replacement.
