Squadron 42 is Cloud Imperium Games’ single-player campaign associated with Star Citizen. It is still in development and is not currently available to download or play, according to Roberts Space Industries (RSI). A pledge that includes Squadron 42 is for future access after development, testing, and release—not a way to play it now.
What is Squadron 42?
RSI describes Squadron 42 as Star Citizen’s single-player campaign. Its onboarding checklist distinguishes the campaign from Star Citizen game packages, which generally bundle access to the online game and a ship. The available official information does not establish a detailed current account of the campaign’s plot, mission structure, or final feature set, so those details should not be treated as confirmed here.
Is Squadron 42 available to play?
No. RSI’s support article, updated February 4, 2026, says Squadron 42 is in development and is not available to download. RSI’s April 16, 2026 checklist likewise says the campaign is still in development and unavailable. RSI says accounts that own a pledge containing Squadron 42 will be able to download and play it after development is complete, the game has been tested, and it is released. RSI treats Squadron 42 as a separate single-player campaign, rather than simply as a mode within the online game. Its checklist notes an exception for a standalone Squadron 42 pledge; other packages include Star Citizen and at least one ship, along with additional items. The pages reviewed do not confirm whether a standalone pledge is currently available to buy, so check RSI’s current pledge listings for any purchase decision.
