Satisfactory: The Board Game is a competitive tabletop adaptation of Coffee Stain’s factory-building video game. MOOD Publishing is developing and publishing it with Coffee Stain Studios. The announced game supports one to four players, including solo play, and turns exploration, resource processing, factory logistics, research and milestone progression into a race to complete the Space Elevator.

Players work on the alien planet MASSAGE-2(A-B)b. Each player develops a factory network on a personal HUB board while using a shared biome map to find resources and expand production. The first player to finish the Space Elevator is intended to become FICSIT Employee of the Month.

What kind of game is Satisfactory: The Board Game?

This is an officially licensed tabletop adaptation of Satisfactory, the computer game about building automated factories on an alien world. MOOD Publishing and Coffee Stain Studios are translating the video game’s central challenge—turning scattered raw materials into an efficient production network—into a competitive board-game system.

The announced format is a 1–4 player competitive sandbox experience. “Sandbox” describes the open-ended factory-building problem: players choose where to explore, which resources to pursue and how to arrange production. “Competitive” means players are racing against one another rather than working through a standard cooperative campaign. Solo play is announced, but the available material does not establish a separate cooperative mode for two or more players.

The setting remains recognizably Satisfactory. Players operate on MASSAGE-2(A-B)b, establish a factory, unlock technology and supply increasingly advanced parts. The overall objective is to complete the Space Elevator before the other players.

How the announced gameplay loop works

The publisher’s descriptions establish a clear sequence of decisions, even though the final turn order and detailed rules have not been published in readable form. A typical game is built around the following connected activities.

1. Explore the planet and locate resources

Players begin by examining the world’s biomes and deciding where their operations should be based. Exploration identifies useful resource locations and creates the logistical problem that defines the game: a factory must be placed where materials can be reached and moved efficiently.

The physical play area is planned as a double-sided board with distinct biomes. Biome tokens and biome cards are intended to make those regions more than decorative scenery. They represent the places players investigate as they plan expansion and decide which resource opportunities are worth pursuing.

2. Gather and refine materials

Once a player has access to resources, those materials must be refined into usable inputs. The announced loop moves from basic gathering to processing and then to the manufacture of more complex parts. This mirrors the video game’s progression from raw deposits to an interconnected industrial supply chain.

Efficiency matters because every production choice affects later capacity. A line that produces one part may consume another part, require additional machines or depend on a longer conveyor route. The game is therefore not simply a collection race; it is an exercise in deciding which conversion chains will support the next milestone.

  • AWARD-WINNING DESIGN BY UWE ROSENBERG: Created by the renowned designer behind Agricola and A Feast for Odin, Patchwork is a must-have abstract game that blends strategy with creativity.

3. Build machines and conveyor networks

Factories are represented through machines, production lines and conveyor belts. Players use these elements to move materials through successive stages of processing. The publisher has not released a final catalog of machines or a complete construction procedure, so the exact costs, capacities and placement restrictions should not be assumed.

What is established is the design goal: players are rewarded for building a production network that can turn inputs into increasingly valuable outputs. The personal HUB player board represents each player’s factory and production lines, giving everyone a dedicated space to manage their industrial system while the biome board represents the wider planet.

4. Produce energy and manage output

Energy production is part of the announced challenge. Factories need power, so players must balance expansion against the ability to keep their machinery operating. The available descriptions do not specify the final power rules, generation options or penalties for insufficient energy. They do establish that energy is a strategic resource rather than an incidental theme.

This creates a trade-off between building immediately and investing in the infrastructure that makes later production possible. A compact, reliable factory may be more useful than a larger network that cannot be powered consistently.

5. Research technologies and complete milestones

Research and milestones unlock technologies intended to improve factory output. These upgrades provide the progression system: players start with more limited capabilities and gain access to better tools, production options or efficiencies as they advance.

Later campaign descriptions also mention tools, vehicles and building blueprint cards. Those categories suggest that progression expands both what players can do on the map and what they can construct in their factories. The specific card effects and unlock requirements remain subject to the final rules.

What components have been announced?

The following components have been publicly described. Their presence is announced, but the final quantities, component materials and detailed rules for each item have not been established.

Component Announced purpose What is not yet confirmed
Double-sided biome board Provides the shared world and its distinct regions for exploration and expansion. Final map layouts, setup differences and balance between sides.
Biome tokens and cards Represent discoveries, locations or effects associated with the planet’s biomes. Exact card text, quantities and timing rules.
HUB player boards Give each player a personal representation of their factory and production lines. Final board layout and the limits it places on construction.
Machines and conveyor belts Model the processing and movement of materials through a factory. Machine roster, production rates, costs and placement rules.
Tools and vehicles Provide later-game ways to interact with the planet or improve operations. Which tools and vehicles are included and how they function.
Building blueprint cards Offer construction options or reusable factory designs as players progress. Blueprint effects, prerequisites and card distribution.
Space Elevator miniature Represents the central race objective and is planned as an active game mechanic. How its physical position changes during ordinary play.

How do players win?

The Space Elevator is the game’s central goal, not merely a decorative reference to the video game. Players race to supply and complete it, with the first finisher intended to secure the in-world title of FICSIT Employee of the Month.

The launch announcement also described a campaign-linked Space Elevator miniature. Its announced height increased by 1 centimetre for every 1,000 Gamefound followers. That figure concerns the campaign presentation and miniature height; it should not be interpreted as a gameplay measurement or as a guaranteed final specification for every edition.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The publisher’s wording connects the objective with “saving humanity.” In practical terms, the winner is the player who completes the required Space Elevator race before the others. The final rules will determine exactly which parts, milestones or production thresholds count as completion.

How many people can play, and is it cooperative?

Player count

The announced player count is one to four. That covers a solo game and groups of two, three or four players. Coffee Stain Publishing, MOOD Publishing and Coffee Stain Studios identify the product as a competitive tabletop experience, so the multiplayer design is based on competing factory plans and a shared race rather than a team victory condition.

Solo play

Solo play is explicitly announced, but no detailed solo opponent system, automated rival or target schedule has been published in the available material. Until the rulebook is available, it is safest to treat the player count as confirmed while leaving the exact solo structure open.

Cooperative play

No standard cooperative mode has been established. Two or more people may be able to discuss strategies at the table, but the announced format does not promise that players will share one factory, pool resources or win together. Those distinctions should not be inferred from the video game’s open-ended nature.

What a game session is likely to ask you to do

The broad flow can be understood without assuming an unannounced turn sequence:

  1. Read the available terrain. Identify biome and resource opportunities on the shared board.
  2. Choose an operating position. Place or develop your factory where materials can be reached and transported.
  3. Establish basic production. Gather and refine resources, then connect machines and conveyors.
  4. Plan the next dependency. Decide which intermediate parts, energy systems or upgrades are needed for future milestones.
  5. Research and expand. Unlock technologies, tools, vehicles or blueprints that improve output.
  6. Convert efficiency into progress. Use the resulting production network to advance toward Space Elevator completion.
  7. Race the other factories. The competitive pressure comes from reaching the final objective before the other players.

This is a description of the announced design loop, not a substitute for the final rulebook. The publisher has not yet established a definitive setup, round structure, action economy, playtime or complexity rating in the material available for this article.

Campaign timing and availability

Coffee Stain Publishing, MOOD Publishing and Coffee Stain Studios announced on September 18, 2026 that crowdfunding was scheduled to begin on Gamefound on October 13, 2026. The official Satisfactory announcement also identified MOOD Publishing as the partner and pointed readers to the Gamefound campaign.

Because the campaign page was not readable when these details were checked, the scheduled date should not be treated as proof that a live campaign, pledge tier or retail product is currently available. Current prices, shipping regions, delivery estimates, stretch goals, stock status and retail release information are not established here.

The announcement said followers could receive a metal FICSIT Cup first-player marker with a pledge. That is a campaign statement, not a guarantee that the item will be included with every future retail edition or available after crowdfunding.

What has and has not been revealed about the rules?

A MOOD Publishing/Gamefound update search result indicated that the publisher had shared a how-to-play video, a Tabletop Simulator preview and a first look at the rulebook. The update page itself did not provide readable text in the material available for this article.

As a result, several practical questions remain open:

  • The exact setup and turn sequence.
  • How players claim or harvest specific resource sites.
  • Machine costs, production rates and conveyor restrictions.
  • How energy generation and shortages are resolved.
  • The research tree, milestone requirements and blueprint effects.
  • Whether players can interfere directly with one another or only compete through the shared race.
  • Typical playing time, age recommendation and rules complexity.

These are normal details to verify from the final rulebook or an accessible publisher preview before buying or teaching the game. The announced concept is specific enough to explain the objective and major systems, but not enough to responsibly invent a complete turn-by-turn tutorial.

Who is likely to enjoy it?

The announced design should appeal to players who enjoy optimizing production chains, planning several steps ahead and watching a system become more efficient over time. Fans of the video game may recognize the setting, terminology and factory problem, while tabletop players can approach it as a resource-management and engine-building race even without prior knowledge of the digital game.

It may be a poor fit if you specifically want a confirmed cooperative campaign, a short party game or a published ruleset with known playtime and difficulty. Those characteristics have not been announced. The strongest confirmed identity is a competitive, sandbox-style factory builder for one to four players.

What to check before pledging or purchasing

  • Confirm that the Gamefound campaign is live and that the listed pledge tier is still available.
  • Read the current shipping regions, taxes, delivery estimate and cancellation terms.
  • Check whether the metal FICSIT Cup and Space Elevator miniature details apply to the tier you want.
  • Look for the complete rulebook or an official how-to-play video before judging playtime or complexity.
  • Verify whether a later retail edition differs from the crowdfunding edition.
  • For solo play, confirm how the solo challenge works rather than assuming it uses the multiplayer rules unchanged.

The key fact is straightforward: Satisfactory: The Board Game is planned as a competitive 1–4 player tabletop factory race. Its announced systems—biome exploration, resource refinement, machines, conveyors, energy, research and milestones—lead toward one shared objective, completing the Space Elevator. The setting and core loop are established; detailed rules and current buying information still depend on the publisher’s final campaign and rulebook materials.
