Samsung’s zNAND-O is described in coverage of its Future of Memory and Storage 2026 presentation as a high-performance NAND concept for edge AI—not as a shipping product. That coverage says four- and eight-layer versions were in development. The labels “Z-NAND-T” and “Z-NAND-I” could not be verified in the sources reviewed, so they should not be treated as confirmed Samsung technologies.
What Samsung’s zNAND-O is reported to be
Coverage of Samsung’s Future of Memory and Storage 2026 presentation describes zNAND-O as a concept model based on V-NAND. It is presented as a next-generation, high-performance NAND design intended for edge AI workloads that involve real-time, data-intensive processing. The reported design goals include space efficiency, improved I/O performance, and low latency. Those are stated aims, not published results from a deployed system.
The same coverage says Samsung was developing four- and eight-layer versions. That is a development roadmap, not evidence that either version is commercially available. The available material does not establish product specifications, capacity, measured latency, power use, or system compatibility.

The available sources do not verify the exact labels Z-NAND-T or Z-NAND-I. A search of Samsung’s official news domain for those names and zNAND-O returned no results. That absence does not prove the terms have never been used, but there is not enough evidence here to explain them as real product lines or technologies. The substantiated name in the presentation coverage is zNAND-O.

Is zNAND-O available for AI systems?
No verified retail or generally available zNAND-O product is established by the available coverage. It describes a concept and development work, not a product that AI system builders can order or deploy. There are also no substantiated compatibility details or independently reported performance results.
Samsung’s 2025 annual report provides broader storage context but does not identify zNAND-O as a product. It discusses plans to address demand for high-capacity server SSDs with V9 high-performance products. Separately, it names the 9100 PRO 8TB as a PCIe 5.0 consumer SSD. Neither reference establishes that zNAND-O is used in those drives or in Samsung’s server products.

How zNAND-O differs from Samsung’s V10 BV-NAND claims
Samsung’s V10 BV-NAND is a separate NAND architecture, not another name for zNAND-O. Coverage of the 2026 presentation reports that V10 BV-NAND has more than 400 layers and approximately 58% greater memory density than the prior V9 generation. These are presentation figures attributed to Samsung through that coverage; they do not describe zNAND-O.

What to look for before evaluating a future zNAND-O product
If Samsung announces a sample or commercial product, buyers and system designers will need more than the concept’s stated goals to judge its suitability. Useful evidence would include:
- Availability: whether it remains a concept, enters sampling, or reaches mass production.
- Workload and deployment: whether validated uses are edge AI, data-center inference, or another setting.
- Capacity and density: usable capacity and how it compares with relevant alternatives.
- Measured I/O and latency: test conditions and results for representative workloads, rather than design goals alone.
- Power and thermals: measured consumption and cooling requirements in the intended system.
Until those details are published, zNAND-O is best understood as a reported development concept with an edge AI target—not as a proven storage option for current AI infrastructure.
