Samsung Electronics does not have one exchange-independent stock symbol. Its common shares trade on South Korea’s Korea Exchange (KRX) as 005930; its preferred shares trade there as 005935. On the London Stock Exchange (LSE), the corresponding global depository receipts (GDRs) use SMSN for common and SMSEL for preferred. Check the exchange and security type before selecting a result.

Here, “Samsung stock” means Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., not every company in the broader Samsung group. Samsung Electronics’ original shares are listed on the KRX, while its GDRs are listed on the LSE, according to Samsung Electronics Investor Relations.

The Korea Exchange’s disclosure also identifies 005930 as the KRX code for Samsung Electronics common stock: KRX KIND listing disclosure.
How to choose the right Samsung ticker
- Choose the market you can access. Look for KRX original shares or LSE GDRs; they are different listings and instruments.
- Match the share class. Select common or preferred, rather than assuming the two codes represent the same class.
- Verify the identifier. If your brokerage supports ISIN search, use the ISIN alongside the ticker to distinguish the intended security.
Thus, “Samsung 005930” refers specifically to Samsung Electronics common shares on the KRX. It is not an alternate spelling of the LSE ticker SMSN.

Can international investors buy Samsung Electronics shares?
Samsung’s published guidance describes access through original KRX shares and, for eligible non-US residents, through LSE GDRs. The company states that US residents are prohibited from trading its LSE GDRs under Rule 144A. Its direct KRX route involves registration and Korean brokerage steps. Eligibility and account access depend on a reader’s jurisdiction and broker, so confirm current requirements with a broker authorized where you live. See Samsung’s How to Buy Stock guidance.
What the symbol does—and does not—tell you
A ticker identifies a security on a particular market; it is not a recommendation to buy or an indication of current price. Samsung reported 6,648,649,811 total shares outstanding at the end of Q2 2026: 5,846,278,608 common shares (87.9%) and 802,371,203 preferred shares (12.1%), according to its listing information. Those are share counts, not share prices.

How dividends on the LSE GDRs are handled
Samsung’s IR FAQ says dividends are paid in Korean currency through the Korean Securities Depository, converted to US dollars by Citigroup in New York, and then distributed to investors.
