PRAGMATA is a single-player science-fiction action-adventure from Capcom. It follows Hugh Williams and Diana, an android, as they try to escape a lunar research facility controlled by a rogue AI and return to Earth. Its defining mechanic puts both characters under your control at once: Diana hacks enemies to expose weak points while Hugh moves, aims, and fires.
What kind of game is PRAGMATA?
PRAGMATA is a third-person science-fiction action-adventure built around combat, exploration, and hacking. It is single-player, not a multiplayer game. Rather than making hacking a separate menu or pause in the action, the game combines Diana’s system intrusions with Hugh’s movement and firearms. The result is a blend of action and puzzle elements: you create an opening by hacking, then use Hugh to take advantage of it.

That distinction matters if you are trying to work out what sort of game the title is. It is not described as a conventional shooter in which the player only aims and fires, nor as a puzzle game where combat is incidental. Instead, the central combat idea depends on coordinating two characters and two kinds of action. Diana’s hacking changes an enemy’s vulnerability; Hugh’s shooting is how the player uses that opening. Movement and exploration add another layer, because the pair also have to get through the station and interact with its systems.
Capcom director Cho Yonghee described the idea as “This two-in-one approach, where Hacking is key to your success, is our own unique take on combat that you’ll only find here—in Pragmata.” He made the statement in a June 4, 2025 PlayStation Blog post. The quote describes the intended combat concept; it should not be read as a review of how difficult or satisfying the system feels in practice.

- Out-of-This-World Adventure – Stranded on a lunar space station, Hugh encounters Diana, a mysterious android resembling a young girl. While searching for a way back to Earth, they fight to survive against Bots directed to “neutralize” intruders.
- Hack & Shoot – Use each character’s distinct abilities to take down enemies. In combat, Diana can hack foes to expose weaknesses so Hugh can blast them with weapons. This unique fusion of gameplay offers an action-packed experience like no other.
- Space Exploration – Teamwork also extends to traversing the station. Utilize the thrusters in Hugh’s futuristic suit to dash and hover around while Diana hacks security systems to solve puzzles. Only together can they overcome all obstacles.
- Collect and Customize – Gather materials while exploring the station to unlock upgrades, build out a diverse arsenal of weapons, obtain new outfits, and more. Once you’re ready, use the new gear in battle and take on even greater challenges!
Where and when is the story set?
A lunar facility in a near-future world
The story takes place at a research facility on the Moon in a near-future setting. Humanity has discovered Lunafilament, a material that can be used to create almost anything when paired with the right data. The facility’s role and the technology’s possibilities help establish why the lunar station matters beyond being a remote location. Lunafilament is not simply a name for the setting: it is a key piece of the world’s technology and is also used to make Diana.
After communications with the facility stop, an investigation team is sent to the Moon. A lunar quake and other disaster separate Hugh Williams from his team. Diana, a young android made using Lunafilament, finds and saves him. The two then have to make their way through the station, contend with its AI and enemy robots, and find a route back to Earth.
This premise gives the two leads different roles from the start. Hugh is a member of the investigation team who needs help after being separated from it; Diana is the android who rescues him and then accompanies him. Their cooperation is not just a combat gimmick added to an otherwise unrelated story. The official descriptions tie the pair’s escape, their use of the lunar station, and the game’s distinctive two-character control together.
What the official story description reveals—and what it does not
Capcom’s descriptions also tease half-realized replicas of human civilization across the lunar surface and traces of the facility’s vanished inhabitants. Those details establish a mystery surrounding the station, but they do not disclose its full explanation. The outcome of that mystery should be discovered in the game rather than treated as established story fact.
The confirmed setup is therefore relatively clear, while the larger mystery remains open: a facility has gone quiet, Hugh and Diana are trying to escape, and the place contains strange environments and signs of people who are no longer there. The descriptions do not establish why the inhabitants vanished, what caused every disaster, or how the replicas fit into the full story. Those are questions raised by the premise, not answers supported by the available information.
How do Hugh and Diana work together?
Hugh handles movement and weapons
Hugh is the character responsible for movement, jumping, suit thrusters, aiming, and firearms. His thrusters let him move through the station, while his weapons provide the direct attack once an enemy’s defenses or weak points have been exposed. The official descriptions mention both traversal and shooting, so his role is not limited to standing still and firing during fights.
In practical terms, Hugh’s side of the partnership is the physical action: moving through the lunar facility and positioning himself to attack. Diana’s hacking can create an opportunity, but Hugh still has to make use of it. This is why descriptions of the game emphasize the combination of hacking and shooting rather than suggesting that one character handles all combat while the other appears only in story scenes.

Diana’s hacking is central to combat. She works against enemy systems to expose weaknesses, creating opportunities for Hugh to shoot. She can also interact with station systems, including unlocking doors and clearing paths during exploration. So the partnership applies both in fights and when navigating the facility.

Hacking thus has two related uses. Against enemies, it contributes to the combat sequence by exposing a weak point. In the station, it can help open a door or remove an obstacle blocking the route. The sources do not give a full list of hackable objects or every step in a hacking puzzle, so it is safest to understand this as a core interaction used in both combat and exploration, rather than assume additional functions.
Combat happens as a combined action
The player directs both characters at the same time. The core rhythm is to use Diana’s hacking to open an enemy up while controlling Hugh’s movement and firing, instead of stopping the action to enter a standalone hacking screen. That simultaneous control is the game’s main distinguishing feature; it is why PRAGMATA is better described as an action-adventure with puzzle-like combat than as a conventional shooter.
The two actions are meant to work together: hacking is not a bonus activity that happens after a battle, and shooting is not independent of Diana’s contribution. In the simplest explanation, Diana changes the tactical situation and Hugh responds with weapons. The player has to coordinate those jobs rather than hand control back and forth between separate character turns. That is the “two-in-one” approach the director described.

The sources establish the broad rhythm, but they do not supply a detailed control tutorial, the precise layout of the hacking interface, a list of weapons, or a difficulty assessment. The official playable demo, PRAGMATA Sketchbook, is the supported way to try the combat system firsthand. It also lets players explore part of the lunar research station, so it offers a chance to see the action and setting together rather than only read about the premise.
When did PRAGMATA release, and on which platforms?
PRAGMATA launched on April 17, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, according to Capcom’s launch report. The report gives a regional exception for Nintendo Switch 2: the game released April 24, 2026, in Japan and other parts of Asia.
Capcom had previously announced April 24 as the launch date in a December 2025 announcement. That earlier date was superseded for the general launch by the later April 17 announcement; it is relevant now only as release history and to explain the regional Switch 2 date. Because the game has already launched, it is more accurate to refer to it as released than as an upcoming game.
The platform list includes current-generation consoles and PC. The sources confirm the game’s availability on those systems, but they do not provide a basis here for claiming that one platform has better performance or features than another. If you are choosing where to buy it, compare the platform you own, the edition and add-on you want, and the current store listing for that system.

| Steam (PC) | PRAGMATA Sketchbook demo | Free |
| Nintendo US | Switch 2 base game | Price not stated on the reviewed Nintendo US page |
| Nintendo US | Shelter Variety Pack DLC | $14.99 |
The Nintendo US page confirms the Switch 2 game and its release information, but does not show a base-game price in the reviewed page content. The PlayStation and Steam prices should not be used to infer one.
For the PlayStation and Steam listings, the Deluxe Edition is $10 more than the Standard Edition at the checked prices. Steam explicitly describes its Deluxe Edition as including the game and Shelter Variety Pack; the PlayStation page lists its Deluxe Edition and the pack add-on, but the reviewed information does not specify the Deluxe contents in the same detail. Do not assume that every store’s edition contents are identical without checking that platform’s product page.
The Shelter Variety Pack is listed separately as a $14.99 add-on on PlayStation Store and Nintendo US, while Steam’s Deluxe Edition description includes it. The available information identifies the pack and its price, but does not detail what it contains. Likewise, these storefront checks do not verify an Amazon US listing, edition format, or affiliate eligibility. If buying outside the listed official stores, confirm the retailer, platform format, and edition rather than treating these storefront prices as an Amazon quote.

How widely has the game sold?
Capcom reported that worldwide sales passed two million units in the 16 days after launch in a May 7, 2026 press release.
