Phantom Blade Zero is an upcoming dark wuxia action RPG from S-Game. You play Soul, a swordsman framed for his master’s murder who has only 66 days left to live. Hunted across the Wulin, he must uncover the conspiracy behind his downfall while searching for a cure.
Official materials describe cinematic martial-arts combat, more than 30 main weapons, 25 secondary weapons called Phantom Edges, build customization, summons, adjustable difficulty and a connected Phantom World divided into eight regions. The game is currently listed for PS5 on October 29, 2026, although PlayStation’s own materials contain a US date discrepancy that buyers should check on their regional storefront.

What is Phantom Blade Zero?
Phantom Blade Zero is a single-player-focused dark wuxia action RPG developed by S-Game. “Wuxia” refers to Chinese martial-arts fiction built around wandering swordsmen, rival schools, loyalty, betrayal and supernatural or highly stylized combat. Phantom Blade Zero combines that tradition with a darker fantasy setting, mechanical prosthetics and what the developer calls punk-fantasy aesthetics.

The game has not launched as of the latest available information. Consequently, announced weapon counts, region counts and combat descriptions explain the intended design rather than proving final performance, balance or quality.
Story: Soul’s 66-day race against death
A framed swordsman
Phantom Blade Zero begins with Soul in an impossible position: his master is dead, he has been framed for the murder, and his own survival is limited to 66 days. Official story descriptions portray him as betrayed by The Order and left for dead before he begins searching for both the truth and a cure.
That deadline gives the story a focused structure. Soul is not simply travelling to become stronger; every investigation is tied to the question of whether he can outlive the curse or injury consuming him. The plot combines personal vengeance with a wider threat to the Wulin.

The setting is described using two overlapping terms: the Wulin, the martial society in which Soul is hunted, and the Phantom World, a mysterious realm filled with conflict, secrets and supernatural danger. PlayStation presents the story as one of betrayal and vengeance, while S-Game emphasizes a dark wuxia world shaped by intrigue.
Epic Games Store’s summary of the August 2026 gameplay deep dive identifies eight regions in the Phantom World. The sources describe these areas as part of a connected world rather than a conventional seamless open world. Exploration can lead to rare treasures, clues and side quests, so progression is not limited to the main route.
Side quests can affect the story
Some side quests may open additional story paths and provide context about the world. That means optional content is positioned as more than a checklist of combat encounters: investigating characters or locations can change how a part of the narrative unfolds or reveal information about the conspiracy. The available descriptions do not specify how many branching endings or permanently missable paths exist.

How the combat and progression systems work
Weapons are the foundation of a build
S-Game says players can unlock more than 30 main weapons and 25 secondary weapons known as Phantom Edges. The announced examples include twin blades, a flexible sword, iron fists and a cannon, suggesting that the game is intended to support substantially different ranges and attack patterns.
Main weapons and Phantom Edges can be upgraded and combined with accessories. This creates a build system in which your equipment choices influence how Soul fights rather than merely increasing a single character level. Accessories are part of the customization layer, although the available descriptions do not provide a complete list of slots, stats or set bonuses.
Reforging lets you redirect upgrade materials
The August gameplay deep dive says materials invested in an upgraded weapon can be reclaimed by reforging it. You can therefore shift resources to another weapon when your preferred combat style changes, instead of treating an early upgrade as permanently wasted. The sources do not state whether reforging returns every material or applies a fee, so the exact efficiency of that system remains unspecified.
Summons add another combat option
Summons can assist Soul during battles. Official descriptions do not establish the number of summon types, whether they are controlled directly or how long they remain active. They are presented as another way to shape a combat setup alongside weapons and accessories.
Combos are designed for accessibility and mastery
PlayStation describes seamless combos that are easy to learn but reward mastery. The official game copy frames the combat as traditional martial arts combined with cinematic action, mechanical prosthetics and fantastical technology. These are developer and platform descriptions, not independent hands-on findings, so they should be read as design goals rather than a guarantee about responsiveness, difficulty balance or animation quality at launch.

Difficulty modes
The announced difficulty choices are designed around different reasons for playing. They are not described as separate character classes or permanently locked campaigns.

The available information does not give numerical damage multipliers, checkpoint rules, enemy health values or details about switching difficulty after starting. If you primarily want to follow Soul’s story, Wayfarer is the clearly stated fit. Hellwalker is aimed at players who want opponents to react more intelligently, while Sixty-Six Days is presented as an especially demanding mode.
Release date and regional timing
S-Game’s official website lists October 29, 2026 as the release date. The current US PlayStation product page also lists October 29, 2026. However, an August 17 PlayStation Blog post says the launch is October 29 while adding a note that it will be October 28 in the US and select regions.
Because those official PlayStation references conflict, the safest approach is to check the live storefront for your country before preordering or planning time off. Do not assume that a single global calendar date applies to every region. Digital release timing can also depend on the storefront’s local time and platform policy.
Platforms and editions
PS5 is confirmed
PlayStation’s US product page confirms a PS5 version. It lists the Standard edition at $59.99 and the Digital Deluxe edition at $69.99 at the time of the available listing. Those are US prices and can change before launch.
Epic Games Store has a Phantom Blade Zero page and published coverage of the game, but the available source material does not establish a complete PC storefront list or publish PC system requirements. Do not treat the existence of an Epic page as proof of a finalized PC launch specification. If you plan to play on PC, wait for an official platform announcement and system-requirement listing for your region.

Preorders include early access to the Treasure Basin accessory and Legacy outfit. S-Game says both items can also be obtained through in-game progression. They are therefore early-unlock bonuses rather than content described as permanently exclusive to preorders.
What the Phantom World offers outside combat
Exploration is tied to rewards and information. The eight announced regions contain side quests, rare treasures and clues that can expand your understanding of the Wulin and its factions. Because the world is described as connected rather than conventionally open, expect linked areas and routes rather than an assurance of one uninterrupted map.
Optional investigations may also influence story paths. That makes it worth examining locations and speaking with characters instead of rushing from one main objective to the next. The sources do not confirm a quest log structure, fast-travel system, map size or whether regions remain accessible after major story events.

Choose Standard if you want the core game
The Standard edition includes the full game at the lower listed US price. It is the straightforward choice if cosmetic extras, an artbook and soundtrack are not important to you.
Choose Digital Deluxe for digital extras
The Digital Deluxe edition costs $10 more on the listed US PlayStation page and adds two outfits, a digital artbook and a digital soundtrack. The announced preorder items do not require the Deluxe edition; they are described separately as early unlocks that can also be earned through progression.

Choose Wayfarer for a story-first run
Wayfarer is explicitly intended for players who chiefly want to enjoy the story. It is the most natural starting point if you are new to action RPG combat or want to focus on Soul’s investigation without selecting the announced severe challenge.
Choose Hellwalker for a more reactive fight
Hellwalker is described as adding more advanced and adaptive enemy intelligence. It suits players who want combat to demand more observation and adjustment than the story-focused setting.
Choose Sixty-Six Days for the severe challenge
Sixty-Six Days is presented as a particularly difficult mode. Choose it when the challenge itself is a major reason you are buying the game, rather than assuming it is the default experience.

What is still unknown
Several practical details have not been established by the available official descriptions:
- Final launch performance, frame-rate modes and resolution targets.
- PC system requirements and the complete PC storefront or platform lineup.
- Whether the game has multiplayer, cooperative play or online-only features.
- Detailed weapon statistics, summon rules, accessory slots and reforging costs.
- The exact mechanics behind the 66-day premise, including whether it affects an in-game timer.
- How many story branches, endings or permanently missable side quests exist.
- Physical-edition availability, retailer stock and launch-day inventory.
These omissions matter because the game is still unreleased. Announced feature counts can describe scope, but they cannot establish how polished, balanced or expansive the finished experience will be.
