com.samsung.android.authfw is Samsung’s Authentication Framework package, associated with Samsung Pass. It is a Samsung authentication component, not a package that the cited Samsung sources identify as malware. Keep it enabled unless you have a specific reason to troubleshoot it: Samsung does not publish a universal recommendation to disable it or a complete list of what removal affects.
What is com.samsung.android.authfw?
Samsung’s Galaxy Store lists the exact package name com.samsung.android.authfw as Authentication Framework. A separate Samsung Knox application inventory for the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G (model N976V) labels the same package “Samsung Pass,” version 2.0.04.9. That inventory also lists “Samsung Pass Provider” as a separate entry.
Together, these official listings connect the package to Samsung’s authentication and Pass software. The Knox inventory is specific to one model and software vintage; its display name and version should not be treated as a guide to every Galaxy device today.
What does Samsung Authentication Framework do?
Samsung’s Galaxy Store listing describes handling personal information, including biometrics and credit card information, and says that information is encrypted and stored in a Knox-secured trusted area. These are Samsung’s product statements, not the findings of an independent security audit or a guarantee about every device configuration.

The listing also says passkeys are available on devices running One UI 6.0 (Android 14) or later. That is the stated software requirement for passkey availability in the listing; it does not establish that every device meeting the requirement has identical features or settings.
Is com.samsung.android.authfw safe, or is it malware?
The cited Samsung sources identify the package as part of Samsung authentication software and do not identify it as malware. That identity information alone cannot verify an installation on an arbitrary phone. If the package appears unexpectedly or you are concerned about it, check its app details and update source in your device settings or Galaxy Store. Avoid installing a replacement APK from an unverified site.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).

Can you disable or uninstall it?
Samsung’s cited materials do not give a general end-user recommendation to disable or remove the package, nor do they provide a complete device-by-device list of consequences. A third-party package database raises the disablement question but is not Samsung’s official guidance. Because the package is associated with Samsung authentication software, the prudent default is to leave it enabled.
If you have a device-specific troubleshooting reason to test disabling it, make the change only on that device, first confirm you can restore the setting, and check the authentication flows you rely on afterward. Do not assume that removal will always break a particular feature; the available sources do not establish that.

Is it the same as Knox Authentication Manager?
No such equivalence is established by the cited documentation. Samsung documents Knox Authentication Manager as a managed Android autofill service for shared, fully managed Samsung devices. It works with a UEM or EMM and supports PIN, PIN-plus-face, and manual enterprise sign-in methods. The documentation does not say that Knox Authentication Manager is the same component as com.samsung.android.authfw, so treat them as separate software unless Samsung documents a direct connection.
For an enterprise deployment, assess changes on the actual managed device and test the relevant sign-in flows before applying a fleet-wide policy.

Why might its name differ across Samsung screens?
A package name is an internal identifier, while a listing or inventory can show a human-readable name. Samsung’s Galaxy Store uses “Authentication Framework”; the Knox inventory for the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G calls the package “Samsung Pass.” The different labels do not, by themselves, show that the package is suspicious or that the same name will appear on every Galaxy model.
