Avatar: Seven Havens is an animated sequel series from Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios, created by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. It follows Pavi, a young Earthbender who discovers she is the new Avatar after Korra, in a world devastated by an unexplained cataclysm. Pavi and her long-lost twin, Nisha, must uncover their origins and protect the Seven Havens, the remaining strongholds of human civilization. Book 1 premiered globally on Paramount+ on October 9, 2026.
What is Avatar: Seven Havens about?
Avatar: Seven Havens continues the animated Avatar universe after The Legend of Korra. It introduces a new Avatar, a new pair of central heroes and a world transformed by disaster rather than revisiting Aang’s original journey or retelling Korra’s story.
The central character is Pavi, a young Earthbender who discovers that she is the next Avatar in the cycle. That revelation does not make her an obvious hero in this era. Official descriptions say the devastated world regards the Avatar as humanity’s destroyer rather than its savior. Pavi is therefore hunted by both human and spirit enemies while she tries to understand what happened to the world and why she has been chosen.
Pavi’s search is tied to Nisha, her long-lost twin. The sisters must uncover their origins while attempting to save the Seven Havens, described by Nickelodeon as civilization’s last strongholds. The premise combines a personal mystery about the twins with a large-scale survival story about communities facing collapse.

Who are Pavi and Nisha?
Pavi, the new Avatar
Pavi begins as a young Earthbender, not as an established master of every element. Her discovery that she is the Avatar places her at the center of a world that no longer trusts the title. The official setup confirms her identity and her position after Korra, but it does not yet explain how quickly she learns other elements, who trained her or what remains of the traditional Avatar institutions.
Nisha, Pavi’s long-lost twin
Nisha is Pavi’s long-lost twin and a crucial part of the series’ mystery. The official synopsis makes their shared origins a major plot thread, but it has not disclosed why the twins were separated, how Nisha survived the cataclysm or whether she has bending abilities. Those questions are story mysteries, not established facts.
What are the Seven Havens?
The title refers to seven remaining strongholds of civilization in a world shattered by a cataclysm. The word “havens” suggests protected settlements or regions where people have gathered after the wider collapse, but the official announcements do not provide a complete map, a named list of all seven locations or a precise explanation of how each one is governed.

Pavi and Nisha are explicitly trying to save them before they collapse. That goal gives the series a built-in structure: the twins must navigate a fragmented world, learn why the Avatar is feared and deal with threats that endanger both individual communities and the survival of civilization as a whole.
The cataclysm’s cause and mechanics remain undisclosed. Official materials do not say whether it was natural, political, technological, spiritual or a combination of forces. They also do not establish how much of the pre-cataclysm world still exists outside the havens. Any detailed explanation circulating beyond those points is speculation.

How does Seven Havens fit into the Avatar timeline?
Seven Havens is set after The Legend of Korra. It is therefore part of the same Avatar cycle that began with Aang’s era and continued through Korra. The announcements do not state the exact number of years between Korra’s story and Pavi’s, so it is not accurate to assign a specific interval.

The official premise deliberately reverses the usual public image of the Avatar. In earlier stories, the Avatar is generally expected to maintain balance and protect people, even when individual leaders distrust the person holding the title. In Seven Havens, the wider world sees the Avatar as humanity’s destroyer.
The announcements do not identify the event or history that produced this belief. The cataclysm may be connected to the reputation, but no official source has explained the relationship. What is confirmed is the dramatic situation: Pavi must act as the Avatar while many humans and spirits regard that identity as a threat.
That conflict also explains why the story begins with pursuit rather than a conventional training journey. Pavi’s first problems are discovery, survival and trust. She and Nisha must determine whom they can believe while trying to protect communities that may fear the very person attempting to save them.

Who created the series?
Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the co-creators of the original animated Avatar: The Last Airbender, created Seven Havens. The series is produced through Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios. In the February 20, 2025 announcement, the creators described the project as a new incarnation of the Avatar universe with a new cast of characters and an epic, emotional adventure.

Paramount’s franchise announcements place the series alongside Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra as Avatar Studios content. That connection matters for continuity: the show is designed as an official animated continuation of the same setting rather than an unrelated fantasy series using a similar concept.
How many episodes are planned?
The initial order is 26 half-hour episodes divided into two books of 13 episodes each. Book 1 is the portion released in October 2026. Paramount later announced renewals for Books 3 and 4, but it has not published release dates or episode counts for those later books in the cited announcements.

When did Book 1 premiere?
Book 1 launched globally on Paramount+ with a four-week release plan rather than dropping all 13 episodes at once:
- October 9, 2026: Episodes 1–3.
- October 16, 2026: Episodes 4–6.
- October 23, 2026: Episodes 7–9.
- October 30, 2026: Episodes 10–13.
The October 9 update confirmed that the first three episodes had premiered. By October 13, Paramount had also announced renewals for Books 3 and 4. No later-book dates should be inferred from the Book 1 schedule.

Do you need to watch the other Avatar series first?
The official setup introduces Pavi and Nisha as new leads, so a viewer can begin with their story without already knowing every character from the franchise. However, the show is explicitly set after Korra and uses the established Avatar cycle and spirit world. Prior viewing is therefore helpful for context even though the announcements do not state that it is mandatory.
A practical viewing choice depends on how much background you want:
- Start with Seven Havens: Best if you want to follow the new mystery immediately and are comfortable learning the world’s history as the series reveals it.
- Watch The Legend of Korra first: Most useful for understanding the immediately preceding Avatar and why Pavi is identified as the Avatar after Korra.
- Watch both earlier animated series: Gives the fullest view of the Avatar cycle, bending traditions, spirits and the franchise’s long historical arc.
Nothing in the confirmed premise requires a viewer to know a precise chronology between Korra and Pavi, because that interval has not been disclosed.

What does the wider Avatar franchise tell us about its context?
Nickelodeon reported that the original animated series ran for three seasons and 61 episodes between 2005 and 2008. The franchise has also expanded beyond television. Nickelodeon reported in 2025 that Avatar graphic novels had sold nearly 3 million copies and that Avatar young-adult novels had sold more than 700,000 copies in print and audiobook, spending more than 25 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list.
Those figures describe the established franchise, not the performance of Seven Havens. The official announcements do not provide a viewership total, audience rating, budget or production-completion percentage for the new series.
Readers who want more stories in the setting can explore the existing Avatar: The Last Airbender graphic novel line. Nickelodeon identifies Dark Horse among the publishers handling Avatar graphic novels, but those books are not confirmed Seven Havens tie-ins. The broader publishing program also includes chapter books, young-adult novels, comics, illustrated hardcovers and other franchise formats; none of those announcements establishes a dedicated Seven Havens product line.
What should viewers expect from the premise?
The confirmed setup points to three intertwined kinds of story. First is an identity mystery: Pavi must understand how she became the Avatar, while the sisters investigate their shared past. Second is a survival and travel narrative across a fractured world of rival human and spirit forces.
